  1. no problem...um RCC has an advanced placement LPN to RN program so you take less courses then someone who doesnt have their LPN, also their are 5 courses you can take a competency exam to see if you are not required to take it.
  2. well thats good...good luck
  3. oh ok thats cool..i think you have to maintain above an 85 average in all subjects to be considered an applicant for them..i think only 1 or 2 of my classmates is going there.
  4. the program isnt bad..just seems like a continuation of boces really, um it has no set length just when you complete the classes..its usually a two year program but I have alot of the prereqs and want to finish early so i should be done this time next year.
  5. i dont have mine with me at the moment...i think the purchase would be mandatory tho. I recall them saying that they are expensive elsewhere and they may change up the edition that they are using as well. If anything you could always wait till they show you which ones they are using and then decide from there..
  6. the classes for the day program are split up into 3 groups, not by alphabetical order. They actually take into consideration previous acquaintance. Or if you attended the prep course with someone they may put you into the same group. but for the most part they kinda just shake it up randomly. For my year..they kept the same 3 groups together despite more people dropping out of some groups more then others. However they mentioned that since there was such a strong allegiance between the groups which lead to some groups not wanting to be around other groups, that they were gonna switch the groups around during the year every so often so no one gets to comfortable with the same people. The color used for scrubs is similar to powder blue but when you go to buy it its called a different kind of blue.
  7. no problem...im doing it at Rockland..its funny cause id say half of my class is going there so its like a continuation.
  8. nah no pain at all...i wish i had someone to answer my questions when i first applied. Well i just graduated last month...it usually takes a few weeks till they respond back to tell you which dates are available to take your exam, mine is scheduled in sept. and i dont plan on working until i get my RN, which im in school for now. However if you are a good clinician sometimes you can be offered a job on the spot after graduation. I had no healthcare experience prior to the program. However if you are concerned about job placement and availability, several employers come to the school a week or so before graduation and have an open house at the school.
  9. the 800 covers all the books you will need...you will get them new in a box. it isnt covered by financial aid..which for alot of people was a surprise. supplies as in pens, paper, supplies for clinical will all need to be purchased separately. No you dont get to choose rotation sites, Mrs. Hollander will take into consideration your transportation situation. For example if you dont have a car she will put you at a closer site. Or if you usually carpool with someone she may put you in the same clinical. Also those with healthcare experience tend to be able to go to a hospital for their first site. Out of the 90 people that started with us about 60 graduated.
  10. lol..nothing important..just to familiarize you with the program before actual lecture. Theres a point when you play several games to gauge who you are and what you perceive nursing to be. Attendance is necessary but nothing happens really..
  11. Hey ladies..I am a recent graduate of S.W. Boces..feel free to ask me any questions you have....
  12. where are you located sensoria?
  13. what about it makes it so difficult..i actually found a program at a local community college to where i plan on living...that offers a lvn to adn program
  14. i am finishing a lpn program in ny in june of next year...and i plan on moving to Ca right after the program is done...is it better to just take the nclex in california and just get licensed there....or take it in NY then try and i guess get it "endorsed" in Cali? What are my options?
  15. On a side note...NickiLaughs...i plan on taking my lpn license out to california next year..to the inland empire..corona specifically....have you noticed a high demand for lvns in that area?
  16. NurseCubanita maybe right....prospective hirers can very well be overwhelmed by an applicant he or she cant understand...also im not sure of your fianancial situation but have you thought about getting your RN?..I know of many postions open for RNs.
  17. Nickilaughs....is completely right...however to add to it...if you ever plan on furthering your education or career..and need additional training..the 30 unit program wont do you any good because...with that program you are a licensed rn but without an associates degree...
  18. Firstly..I love this website...ever since i decided nursing was my career..ive been so excited to start school..and once i found this site i felt..complete...(sorry for the cornyness)....but my question is..im in a lpn program in New York that is due to be complete June of next year...however i plan on moving to California right after school is done...so what should i do to be licensed in California? Also my second question is..once i come to Cali and have my lvn would it be faster and less expensive to go to a local community college and get my associates rn then take an online rn to bsn course...OR once i get my lvn...to take a straight lvn to bsn online program?...Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated..
  19. very true matties mom....
  20. Well mine starts on the 31st of this month...ive never been so excited to go to school in my life...and ive been going to school since preschool and im almost 23 now....hopefully i will do very well and can handle the workload....but i can wait to graduate next June
  21. im actually at the beginning of this race we call nursing starting a lpn program in a month...so i have a WHILE before im even to my BSN...but to answer your question...im ultimate goal is CRNA...i feel like nursing is best field to work in...with not TOO much school and great job opportunites..
  22. Not to offend anyone...but in the past..when you thought of a nurse..the picture that most likely popped into your head was a white woman...with those little white hats. But of course as nursing has become more and more a desired profession you are seeing that change..however its still dominated by women...when i was accepted into my nursing program..i believe i was considered because of my grades....and the interview but i think the major reason i was accepted was because i was a male and a minority..I think people are trying to see a change in the demographics of nursing towards the future.
  23. Any female that reads this, this isnt a person attack on you..but rather a generalistic statement....But WHENEVER there is alot of women there is drama...work..school...social gatherings..wherever......in my lpn program there are 30 students, 28 women and 2 men...me and a married 55yr old.....From my experience...as long as you look but dont touch you should be fine...the moment you try and pass friendship with any of these ladies...problems arise...
  24. Graduated from high school at 17...and started college right after..but ive been bouncing around between what i really wanted to do until i decided on becoming a CRNA....so im starting a 10 month lpn next month..ill be 23 in Nov....
  25. The last poster is right...you cant depend or rely on hersay...you have to find out from the source about how long the waiting list is for the nursing program...however i myself was going to bronx community college and realized that the waiting list was far too long...so i ended up going to a separate program for my lpn license...my mother also attended BCC and because she already had her lpn license she was automatically excepted in their rn program...so i would suggest of course the rn route..its more money and its a better career..but maybe try and see if it would be faster to go elsewhere for your lpn....then come back for your rn...hope it helpss..
