  1. It's more than the budgets being screwed up (they've always been), more than the complicated patients that are being discharged (that still belong in the hospital) or closure of school programs (it's been coming but nobody believes it). So what if RN's don't always know the patients, you don't know any of your patients when you start any job. All you can do is one patient at a time. It the pathology, theory, assessment skills and ethics the RN supervisors carry with them to perform a bedside assessment when you call after a fall/aspiration/or other injury that needs to be reported and documented. It's a shift in gears when you pick up the cart. With all respect, anyone can give pills, change dressings and SOAPIE in charts. Yes the market is harder for all new graduates but how many of these job boards are asking for the same position in the same facility the last 3,6,9 months.
  2. Not to pee in the wheeties.... not to long ago, I went to a job fair in Hartford. Spoke with several "booth" persons from varied settings (hospital , LTC, SNF's and all in between). I had several recruiters say point blank, "we have been told not to hire anymore LPN's. We are fazing out what we have in house". What do you mean? How? "down grading the job description. If there is no proof of enrollment in RN program, land or online, they are going to become PCT's". Granfathered in? "No such animal. The patient's medical needs are getting more and more acute. We need nurses that can handle it". The RN's around the booth were stunned, the LPN's and LPN students were shellshocked. So if you can do it, get your RN. They've already shut down the state LPN program.
  3. Hi, I can appreciate that I'm fortunate to have a part time job (let alone just a job now) but I am hating everyday of my weekend supervisor job. I supervis LPN's and CNA's who seem to believe if they tell me some very important patient information a 2:55 pm that they've done something. NO I'm not completing your A&I, nursing note for YOUR patient with skin tear/fall and bruise of unknow origin. I do my assessment and note. I don't protect you. I'm tired of taking the risk and not getting any benefit. They have health/dental/uniform allowance and pension. I'm the f---king RN, salaried and I don't get anything but 16 hours of irritation. Of course I need a year of nursing experience but what happens after a year. Two years. I don't feel I'm doing anything nursing related. I'm babysitting adults who barely do what's in their job description as its required by the state. They refuse 1:1, I write them up and I get harrassed by staff and an "inservice" by administration. It's all I can do to protect my nursing license. I think I've made a mistake. I like nursing but this economy and the job pool that is currently out there, it's a mistake. Thank god I don't have student loans. I think I'll do this for a few months more and if I can't find a different job, I will do something else. Just need to vent
  4. I hope you find something too!! I have to mentally pep talk to want to walkin to the facility. Thank god it's only weekends. I'd slit my wrists if it was more than that.
  5. Same boat. I hate my facility (LTCF/SNF) which is union (yeah, me) and majority of them are burnt out and comfortable in the only job they have ever held. They know if they worked anywhere else, none of the crap they pull wouldn't fly and they'd have to answer for it. Example: call out 1/2 before their shift, doesn't do proper rounds so patients are soaking wet for the next shift. If you dare mention, so and so has their light on while they are on 7th dinner break and it's only 11am, you get attitude and a grevience. Heaven for bid management would actually enforce disiciplines, there wouldn't be so many skin breakdowns. Just biding my time until I can land something better. I have to believe something better exists.
  6. Sorry about your relationship difficulties but I am with you on the job hunt. I am so tired of sending resumes. I think I've sent 30+ resumes out, including the places I've had clinical rotations and nothing. I finally got my first interview earlier this week since graduating May 2009 and not a word back since. I'm no longer animated, excited. I am tired of begging and explaining how I can be an asset to your facility. I think they like to see how long they can make you dance for the carrot... I've hit my max and am stopping and thinking about other options. I wish all of you well in your hunt
  7. Nope. They are now apart of the Connecticut Community College Nursing Program (CT-CCNP). This link is off the capital community website that talks all about the program. http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/docs/CT-CCNP.pdf Nope. No more wait list. Select your top 3 and be prepared to attend if you are offered a seat (try not to pick one so far from your home..clinical sites, exams, etc). There are med calc tests every semester as I understand it but again all of the questions are answered at the info sessions. They are very serious about people attending info session prior to starting the application process.
  8. I live in Central CT and let me tell you, I've had a hard time getting acknowledgement that my resume, personal statement, clinical refrences have been recieved. Don't get down, my experience is not going to be your experience but it truly bites when respect is not shown to you when you give it.
  9. I've heard mixed things about Goodwin and I elected to attend and graduate from one of the community college system nursing schools under the old regime. There is no longer a wait list. You attend an info session, pick your top 3 schools and if you 1st choice has room and offers you a seat, you win. If not, then if your 2nd or 3rd choice on your list has space, you accept. You have the option of declining the 2nd or 3rd choice and reapplying the following year. Applications are not held for the next year as I understand it. It's cheaper, intense and you do learn a lot. And your credits transfer if you want to get your BSN
  10. I too graduated in May, passed NCLEX in July and no job. Not even an interview. I've decided to look out of state because I've given up on landing a job in CT. Good luck to you
  11. I did and what the oh so pleasant person told me, "we print in batches. you should be out the week of8/10. I know the post office is having fiscal issues but really. I just want my license so I can leave this place. Thanks for the thoughts though
  12. I'm waiting in CT. Passed my NCLEX and was listed on the state license 1st week in July. I'm looking to relocate and I need my license to do so. Very, very irritated
  13. Am I too sensitive or are NG's treated like crap in CT? I've been on the phone to confirm some minor detail in order to complete the application packet or else your app gets trashed....and somebody "forgot" to place me on hold. I heard every word of an office conversation.."how much they hate GN's, wish they'd stop wasting paper/time and space and how difficult it is to be polite to GN's when you are waiting to speak with "real, experienced nurses". All of this in CT by the way...wish me luck ;-(
  14. Well since I've no job prospects, I've changed my diet (farmer's market is my friend!!) and I play a lot of Wii fit and I've lost a lot of inches. I have not yet seen the numbers on the scale move like I really wanted but clothing is fitting better now. Good luck to everyone putting themselves first to get healthy.
