Celebrate Your Fall 2010 Acceptances Here!!!
Congrats Everyone!!! I got my acceptance letter back in October. I start Fall of 2010. I'm excited. We are also moving so that I can attend this school. We're moving 3 hours away, back to my husbands home town. In another state. We have 4 kids, so its a huge move. We're moving in June and I start school in August. I won't start clinicals until next Jan, and will only have a few classes this fall, as I have most of my pre req's and general ed classes already done.

Vaccinations
My school requires titers for MMR, Varacella(or the vaccination), Hep B series (or titer), Hep A, TDap(or just T). They also require a two step PPD(Tb test). And a current physical. I am transferring and moving to go into a nursing program and am having everything done before I go.

how to pay for school
You'll be able to still apply for financial aid for the next year. You apply every year that you will be in school. You don't worry about paying it back until you are out of school. Repayment starts at 6 months out of school. Just do your best and try not to worry about the cost. I am already 16K in debt with student loans and I'm not any where close to being done. I haven't gotten into nursing school yet.

I have a major dilemma CNA or EMT certification while waiting for RN to start?
I've had both. I got my CNA/home health aide cert first. Worked in private care. Cna's are the low man on the totem pole. They are very over worked and very very under paid. I let my cert lapse. I also have my EMT-B certification. Although I don't work on a any service, I got it and passed and hold my license. I feel like I learned more from the EMT class than I did with my work as a CNA. Most Cna's work in either nursing homes or private care. It will give you a slight leg up getting a job at a hospital, but usually hospital's train people as Clinical Associates, but it's the same thing as being a CNA. Bathing, feeding, Personal care, emptying cath bags, colostomy bags, and so forth. Changing beds, and stuff like that. It's very fast paced in a nursing home, and there isn't much time spent with the patients. As there are more patients than there are people to help. Emt's have more of a range in patient care. It's fast paced too, but you learn so much more. You learn about a wide array of things that you would never see as a CNA. I would definitely suggest going for the EMT license. If you can, I would also take a basic trauma life support class too. Good luck.. I'm now working on my Laboratory Assistant Certificate/Phlebotomy certificate, while I wait to get into nursing school. Hopefully next fall. Good luck.

HELP! What is the best path for me?
I'm working on my BS in psych while I try to get into the nursing program at my school. I am very interested in Psych. I have already all of my prereq's for the nursing program, and almost all of the prereq's for the BSN. I just have to be accepted into the nursing program. I will have almost all of the Psych classes complete by next fall. I don't really look at it as a waste of time, because I have to have classes to fill my schedule so that I don't lose my standing. Most psych departments in schools don't tell you that there's not much that you can do with just a BS in psych. You need a masters or doctorate. But the way I see it is this, you can't ever have too many degrees, and I'm learning things about myself along the way. So I'm not sure what the best path for you is. Good luck.

What Did Your A&P Classes Cover? Please Read/Reply!
Looks like what I had. I took A/P I last fall. But my professor did functional anatomy. We used live human subjects. We also learned scientists that discovered various things. Schwann, Schliden, etc. It's a lot of information for one semester, that's why a lot of schools break it into two classes. Good luck.

Taking prereqs and applying spring 2010 for fall 2010
I've already applied once, didn't get in this fall. I already have all my nursing pre req's done. Now I'm working on my Psych Degree while I wait. I'm taking Intro to Speech, Fund. Concepts of Math, Intro to Soc. and Med Term, right now. This fall I'm taking Abnormal Psych, Statistic(psych) Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Phlebotomy and lab Assistant classes. Total of 15 credits. I'm taking 12 right now for the summer. Hopefully once I take the Teas test again, I will be a go getting in. I have a 3.5 gpa.

To the girl who texted all during the math final...
Or how bout how hard it is to even get into to the nursing programs in some places, and then you here about half of the class dropping out because they can't cut it. Or they find out it's not "glamorous" enough. What about all of us that are still trying to get in? That's what makes me sick.

How can I get in?
They sell a Teas study guide at att.com. They say it helps. I am still working on getting in. I'm retaking the teas, and retaking a few classes to up my score. I already have a 3.5 GPA. But I also have 4 kids, and it's hard to ace everything. Good luck. I've taken the teas twice, got good enough scores, but I'm going to retake again to get them even higher.

Discouraged and only taking A&P I
I took A/P I with a very difficult instructor. His fail rate was 75%. I withdrew from the class and retook it with a different professor. I got a high B. He made it super easy. But he also did functional human anatomy. He used living subjects. Because with a patient you can't just cut them open to find the problem. He taught us a lot of fun things to remember. Like McBerney's point, and thinks to remember. I would def take it over. I'm currently taking a class over because I got a C in the class, so that my scores would be higher. Good luck.
