  1. We like hearing ourselves! LOL I think everyone is afraid that they will be THE exception! I know I was. I figured something must be wrong. It took forever for it to post on the BON and I was NOT going to pay the stinking fee to learn early. I spent enough money on books and reviews! Anyway, it is tough when it is you and not someone else waiting. :)
  2. I suggest you get Linda LaCharity's book on Priority and Delegation. It helped me a lot. I also took NCSBN.com review. It is not as expensive as Kaplan. I did take a free pratice test through Kaplan. Check their site. Another good suggestion is doing 75-100 NCLEX questions a day and read all of the rationale even the ones you get right. I would get some right for the wrong reason. It helps to know WHY something is happening not just memorization. I see you are on YouTube. There are alot of good videos that explain diseases etc. on YouTube. I learned about ABGs, Cushings, Addisons disease etc, some from even USMLE videos (even though they are for docs they still have alot of good info and explain things well). Kaplan's strategy book is also good. Try the library first. I was able to get Kaplan's strategy book through interlibrary loan. You might some other books as well through the library. If they don't have it, ask if they can get it. It sure helps with the pocketbook. You have a great attitude! Keep it up! God will get you through what ever He wants you to do! There is nothing too hard for Him!
  3. I agree with Caliotter3. The Linda LaCharity book on prioritization and delegation is excellent. It really helped me. The questions make you think and are closer to the type of "passing questions" in my opinion. I finished almost the entire book. I even did a couple of the case studies the night before my exam. The case studies are hard. I scored approx. 60-75% on average throughout the book.:)
  4. I ordered mine online. Looks like there is a newer book out (Jan 2010). Amazon.com has both. Amazon even lets you look inside the newer one. It looks good. If I had it to do over again, I would get the newer book. :)
  5. @erinrp I don't know if anyone answered you. I took the 8 wk review and was pretty busy with it. It expired 1 wk before my test. I took a lot of notes and copied and pasted some of their charts to review later. Since you recently had nursing school, maybe the 5 wk would be better. My refresher course didn't cover everything (nursing grad. 1982) so I had to spend a little more time on learning some of it. The last week I reviewed my notes, labs and did lots and lots of questions ( a lot of LaCharity), infection control and endocrine (which I am weak at). I tried to study 4-5 hrs a day ( with breaks). If I didn't understand a process or something in the review, I looked it up online for an easier explanation or picture. Hope this helps.:)
  6. It took a while for BON to update my license. (Mine had expired and took the NCLEX again) I took it July 16 and it finally updated July 28.
  7. It is hard to say. I took 8 wks reviewing with NCSBN. You can do 3wks which includes the questions. They have pharm, priority, delegation, alternate format, and a bunch of random quizzes. There is also a pretest and a test for each of the 8 sections. I hate to tell you one way or the other. I really liked Lacharity and I've heard others talk well of Saunders. You really need to 100 questions a day. Kaplan has a free practice test you can sign up to do at their center and they will grade it and tell you approx. where you fall as to the passing standard. If you can't do that, I recommend going to their site and you can register for a free 20 question quiz. There are a lot of questions on their site but most of them are used in the free practice test. Kaplan's book NCLEX Strategies 2010-2011 I borrowed from the library and took all the tests and read all the strategy chaps. I recommend it as well. Here is another site with a mini NCLEX 10 question quiz on each drug chap. I just took the quizzes. There are 30 or so just on drugs. http://wps.prenhall.com/chet_adams_pharmacology_1/17/4583/1173501.cw/index.html Hope this helps! Don't forget about allnurses.com - infection control, "random fact throwing" thread etc.:)
  8. It is an online review through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Here is the website: NCSBN Learning Extension . NCLEX preparation . Continuing Education for Nurses . Nursing Faculty Education
  9. @ erinrp I also took the NCSBN's learning extension review - lots of good info. LaCharity's book was priceless to me. I learned alot. Do NCLEX 75-100 questions a day especially the analysis/application type. They are the passing questions according to Kaplan. It's a pain but does help you get used to the type.
  10. My percentages varied: LaCharity 60-70% -case studies were a lot harder. I got mostly 60's %. I even bombed one and got a 40% Kaplan's strategy book - 70% on the 180 question content test. I took a practice test with them and got a 78% but had seen many of the same questions on their website. NCSBN review - pretest 69% then practice quizzes and tests 65-75% I did find out that the passing level questions are the analysis/application questions not the comprehension or recall type (according to Kaplan). Hope this helps.
  11. I passed!! I'm an RN! Finally, Michigan posted my active license! I have been waiting since July 16 with only the good pop up. It has been 25 years since I worked. Praise God! Very excited about where He will lead me now!
  12. I took the NCLEX RN on Jul 16 and finally Michigan posted my active license!! I passed!! The PVT worked for me!
  13. FINALLY, my RN license is active!! I passed!! :balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons:
  14. Congrats Erinp88!! :balloons: I still haven't heard about mine.
  15. Awesome!! :yelclap: Congrats!!:balloons:
  16. The PearsonVue trick (PVT) is done after taking the NCLEX. There is a thread explaining how to do it etc. :)
  17. I took my NCLEX on Jul 16 here in Ann Arbor and still have not heard. 75 questions and the good popup. I already have a license number but had let it expire, but nothing has changed on the site. It still says lapsed, expired. I am starting to wonder.
  18. Keep us informed. Have you done the PearsonVue trick yet? It helped ease my anxiety although I was physically shaking while trying it. I got the "good popup". Mos579 is exactly right nobody feels they passed after taking it. Funny how that is!
  19. I found LaCharity's book on Prioritization, Delegation very helpful. The case studies really make you think. Don't forget to read all of the rationale even on the ones you get right. It helped me think of things that I had forgotten. Sometimes I got questions right but not for the right reason. I watched some YouTube videos on subjects I didn't understand for example from ed4nurses. I am a visual learner so I liked to use many resources even Google images like I looked up Steven-Johnson syndrome and it helped me visualize it (very nasty allergic type side effect from Dilantin and others). We are living in a great age for information. I learned a lot from this site as well - lots of great links and infection control etc. Hope this helps.
  20. She needs to start doing around 100 NCLEX questions a day to get used to answering the types on the test. Here are 3 books I used (I learned about from this site): 1. Saunders Review 4th edition w/cdrom (do questions) 2. Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment: Practice Exercises for Med.-Surg. nursing by Linda LaCharity (excellent - I spaced out my tests, a few a week) 3. Kaplan NCLEX 2010-2011 Strategies, Practice and Review (I borrowed this from the library and read all the strategy chapters and did all the tests) This site has excellent information as well such as "random fact throwing", etc. There are some great links listed as well. I like this one for drugs. Each drug chapter has on the side an NCLEX mini 10 question quiz. Submit it and it gives you your score. I wished I had worked on it sooner: http://wps.prenhall.com/chet_adams_pharmacology_1/17/4583/1173501.cw/index.html I also used the review from NCSBN.com. A lot of people take the Kaplan course review which is supposed to be really good, but it is expensive. :)Hope this helps. God bless!
  21. CONGRATS! :):) Thanks for sharing your story!! Very empowering! You sound like you'll be an awesome nurse! :yelclap:
  22. Thanks. I'm from Michigan. I already have a number from 25yrs ago, but it still says expired.
  23. I was praying for ya, too, Precious2HimBSN! What state are you from? I still haven't heard and I took my test on Jul 16.
