  1. 48 years cutoff for the Army. That's with all the waivers. There is definitely a need for Nurse Practitioners but age is also a discriminator. I should know because I commissioned as an RN at the age of 39 :)
  2. Rusty Nail for RN :)
  3. xx2 would stand for RNs with 2 years of experience. xx3 with 3 years, etc.
  4. The best to explain the supply and demand for RNs in the Reserve component (and National Guard, as well as Regular Army) is the AMEDD Journal: http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/AMEDDJournal/OctDec2011.pdf Check out the graph on page 85.
  5. I stand corrected. This time and age you can probably get a Google Earth view of the whole hospital...
  6. GB is growing quite an empire: Green Beans Coffee. Starbucks beware.
  7. We fobbits like our Green Beans coffee :)
  8. Here is the second part...
  9. I dare to disagree. Military nursing (Army specifically) is a decent job for men too.
  10. # of beds sounds a little on the OPSEC side but who am I to judge? If any of my friends goes to my Facebook page, they would hardly know I am an RN, and an Army RN one at that. You just never know who's listening.
  11. If I were to go into Psych I would probably choose Dominion. Let me ask you another way: if money were no object, would you rather go to Georgetown, George Mason or PG Community College?
  12. I wish you guys the best of luck! I have always been impressed by Georgetown's Nursing program. Remember that they also have their Pre-Med option available to Nursing majors.
  13. Joined the US Army :)
  14. Watch Baghdad ER (HBO) and if you are still ready, join the US Army :) Depending on your specialty. Army deployments are now 9 months.
  15. Weren't they closed in 1942?
  16. Meh. M E H. Meh. (Lisa and Bart Simpsons) Now being an MD from a foreign country, working as an EMT in Afghanistan, that is pretty cool :) This one dude could literally listen to someone's heart and figure out the ailment. Not bad for an EMT from Bosnia... Sorry for sounding so superficial, it has been a long day today.
  17. Expect slight sleep deprivation on weekend drills :) I did Army Reserves for 4 years (and National Guard for 4 more) and those are some early morning wake ups. While in ROTC, early wake ups only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Now combine that with a weekend drill - 4 days early wake ups in a row! I am a little reluctant to volunteer for BOLC combatives at this point - early wake ups 5 days in a row? That is a different story though :)
  18. JeckRN, I cannot send you private messages anymore, your mailbox is full...
  19. There is always a possibility to go from NP/PA to MD if you change your mind.
  20. You are only as old as you admit you are :) I still remember when I enlisted almost a decade ago and the examination doctor was barely standing up, was frail, but still capable to make a decision whether to medically accept new soldiers or not. One of my nursing instructors had a rule and a new nurse should be less than 40 years old. I don't see why. Compassion doesn't just disappear at the age of 40 :)
  21. If DNP is going to become required, might as well go to medical school...
  22. Baghdad ER was manned by the 86th CSH: 86th Combat Support Hospital 91% survival rate
  23. My thoughts on the DNP, exactly!
  24. As they say in MBA school - focus on your core competencies. I honestly don't see how they mean to implement the DNP requirement before 2015 if ACA is going to start in 2014. Perhaps I live in denial. Here is a snapshot: 52% of NPs are in Primary Care, compared to 43% of PAs or 33% of Physicians. ANP/FNP or an equivalent Master's degree level certification will survive 2015, IMHO.
  25. Follow your heart :) I would personally choose ANP over FNP (less clinical hours / credit hours) and also because I prefer to work with adults.
