  1. What school did you get your lpn license from?
  2. How was the program at Rockland County BOCES?
  3. There's nothing wrong with 1st starting out has a LPN and gaining exp., and eventually moving on to RN. What about this plan: get your LPN. work for 1 yr after completing lpn program and then go bck for your rn p/t. I have known ppl that have gaved up this option b/c they feel for some reason being a rn is the best thing ever...which it is but starting out as a lpn and getting your foot in the door is the best option. trust me!!! Y wait to get in another rn program when they r offering u in the lpn program??? there have been so many ppl that went straight into the rn route failed and had to start all over again!!!! good luck!! once again there's nothing wrong with starting out has a lpn and moving towards the rn, bsn or eventually msn route if u choose to!!! u can still get to the same place!!!!! i have a previous bachelor's but i refuse to wait on a waiting list! i plan on earning my lpn...working for 1 yr and immediately going back to school pt since i have all the pre-req's and earning my rn. i will then work for another yr has a rn and then pursue my msn since i already have a bs degree and my goal is to go into nursing administration. so basically you have to figure out your pros and cons and future goals and the best and efficient way to get your goals attained. i live in nyc and lpn's make a very good living. i have heard of ppl that started out as lpn, gained their rn, eventually their bsn and msn. so it can be done. good luck
  4. LPN compensation differentials depends solely on the state or city you live in, exp., and educational background. So, I would suggest you go by the state or city you live in b/c I live in NYC and compensation can start @ $24 - $30 hourly. Also, hospitals do hire LPN's. If you would like to make up with earning more salary...y not have 2 separate jobs! U can wrk at LTC and then for a agency for 2 or 3 days. That's the wonderful thing about the nursing field you will have many options/ good luck!!!
  5. 7 to 3 schedule is pretty good. Can you work P/T at the new job? U will have to weigh all your options. Can you possibly work both jobs? Do you plan on eventually pursuing RN degree? If yes, I would work the job that pays more F/T and work the lower paying job P/T or vice-versa. Do they both offer insurance? What is the difference in pay & hours?
  6. Hi, Actually a starting pay of $26.50 for LPN is not bad. I live in NYC and an LPN can make w/o any exp. from $24 - $30 per hr. Please don't listen to anyone. If your goal is to be in the nursing field and you would like to 1st start out in the lpn field to gain exp. that is a great idea. you can easily move on to gaining your rn, bsn and eventually your msn if your choose to. Compensation differential is based on the state or city you live in and also exp and prior educational background. You can definitely make $ in nursing field but please remember don't make that your only focus. Also, in will have many options I know in NYC you have many options. Hospitals do hire LPN my cousin is a CNA and she works in the hospital. There are ppl that work two seperate jobs...one in LTC and another for a agency and end up with a yearly salary way over $65K or more. Good Luck
  7. Hi All, I live in NYC....and I have been hearing about LPN's being phased out & also RN w/o a BSN being phased out!!!! This have been going on for years before I was born. There's nothing wrong with starting out has a LPN and gaining work experience and eventually pursuing your RN, BSN, MSN and so on...... Please don't let anyone back track you!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!
  8. Hi, Just read you post. How is your journey to becoming an NP going? I also have an BS in Finance and now an LPN student will be done next summer 2010.
  9. Hi, I just took the admission exam today. They give you a reading section which should take no more than 45 minutes to complete & also a math section. The reading section has approximately 20 questions, which are short paragraphs w/mc. You must get at least a 70% to continue on to the math portion and also to be granted an interview w/the admission dept. Both parts are pretty reasonable. Not complicated. I scored a 99.8% on reading portion and 80% on math. For the math portion you need a 59% to get an interview. So, its not that challenging. Good Luck
