  1. "If I were a nurse, I would never think." that is an amazing opinion to me... thanks for this stream of (un)consciousness! it's wonderful and blurry and scary and exhilerating and... exactly what i hope .. well, except for the stressed out, overwhelmed staff... but going home at the end of the day, exhausted from doing everything you can ... saving it for a good "laugh" when i am actually experiencing it first hand! :wink2:
  2. I only hope that I get to work with a thoughtful and helpful person like you... clearly have the best interests of those we are there to help at heart ... it's people like you who give me courage to do this in the first place! thanks!! :)
  3. so I have sort of a follow-up question to this thread... I have not been able to find a program (LPN or RN) that isn't fulltime, M-F program... with twin 22 month-olds at home, I'm not sure how to make that happen...the cost of daycare a month would be close to $2k (yes, really!yikes) and I would have to pay for school... how do others work this out? I'm new to the area and my only relative close works full time - so I don't have any built in free/cheap care for the boys... I'm so curious as to how others manage this - I'm scared I won't be able to really do anything past CNA and pre-reqs until the boys are in school themselves... and I'm already old :) hellllp! thanks!!
  4. it totally depends on the sputum whether or not it bothers me... i usually have to talk myself down from that cookie ledge, other bodily fluids don't tend to bother me (it all washes off is what i figure :) raising 4 boys helps with that one i think) --- but something about a spinal tap just makes the room spiiiin!! crazy!
  5. okay - just a thought here... but aren't you paying for a class and for instruction to take place? i understand everyone's allowing for tight limitations in guidelines with the school, but reading the sentence one more time and then asking "do you understand now" doesn't sound like instruction. you are more than likely paying a pretty penny (or will be with interest) for this class and, while the responsibility to learn is on you, the responsibility to impart the information so the class Can learn is on the instructor. stand up for yourself in your education - if you feel comfortable and have a specific example or question, try to meet with her outside of class. if that doesn't seem like a viable option, meet with your advisor and ask for help, explaining that the entire class is having issues. if you have to go figure out the class on your own, why should you pay for it? yes, we need to be responsible students and take ownership of our education - i believe this includes holding instructors responsible for informational information! good luck to you!!
  6. Good morning! I am working on selecting the RN program I am going to aim for - and I wondered... in the Seattle, Eastside hospitals, which school programs are considered superior? I am sure they all have their merits... but when two candidates show up and one has schooling from... Lake Washington Tech, and the other... North Seattle CC - is there a difference? (all things being equal like GPA, etc... ) I'm new to the area and don't have a feel for school reputations - paying as much as we do and spending as much time on something so important, I would like to be at a school that is well-respected in the hospital hiring community... I want to get hired when I am finally done and don't want something as silly as a school choice to wind up being a hinderance... I know this is a little touchy - but any honest thoughts on it would be so very appreciated!! thank you so much!! :bowingpur
  7. I love it!! Thanks so much for all the thoughts! Keep 'em coming! (and wanna share about grants for technical college?? :) heh) thank you!!
  8. Thanks very much for the input - I really, really appreciate it!!
  9. so here's the thing - i was talked out of nursing school by my mom and my then-mother-in-law when my first two sons were little... "so much school and clinicals..." now that they are late teens, i know and can tell you that the older they get, the more they need you. they need you there for advice and to just know who they are - teenage years are fun but critical at staying involved with them - so going to school while they are little, as long as you make specific time for them, will be 10,000 times easier! there is no guilt to be a happy mom, showing her kids how to go after your dreams! best wishes!!
  10. Hi all - I'm finally getting into nursing and am trying to navigate the murky waters of CNA/LPN/RN/BSN....etc... I'll be finishing my CNA this fall in order to start working, and I'm thinking of getting my LPN cert next... however, I keep seeing things that say LPN's are being phased out, especially in hospitals, which is where I really want to work eventually... Is the LPN a good step towards RN associates or is it a long side-step if I want to work in a hospital? I'm sure that, to a degree, this is regional - or is it? I'm in Washington state and am about to start dialing all the hospitals to ask them... Any thoughts/ideas here would be hugely appreciated!! :heartbeat

  12. thank you thank you thank you for talking about it!! i, too, started this about two years ago and chickened out! now i'm 41 and jumping back in totally - good to know there will be other chicks out there who can reminisce about the 80's and be fully into the new adventure! i am so excited as nursing has always been what gets my rush going - so hallelujah i'm finally listening! best wishes and see you out there on the floor somewhere!! ha
