  1. good for you. And at the end of the day it kind of doesn't matter if you did your DNP in 3 or 4 years just the health of your family . good luck
  2. Hi Mom to 4 I am interested in your progress with your DNP. I am also a mom to 4 and am working on applying to BSN-DNP in University of Minnesota as an online student (live in Toronto). It is 4 years as a part time student. Like you I was going to start a MSN program but cancelled it as I am more interested in the DNP. Are you willing to share your experience?
  3. Hi I am going to University of Minnesota as they have the DNP-Integrative Health and Healing program. I do not know if any other University has that program within the DNP Do you know? Good luck My best Olof
  4. I do agree with Marah1984. I am looking into taking mastersdegree with focus on holistic nursing. I don't want to be working irregular hours because of my kids so I want to have my own private clinic and help people to get into the complimentary therapies but they need nurses to help them into that path because they trust us more than just mr. John smith on the corner! so don't give it up.... hugs O
  5. If you have a B.Sc degree in nursing from a University in a other country then Canada and want to work in Canada do you need a bridging course?

So, getting back to my reason for posting. Let's brainstorm. If we want to have a Holistic Nursing Practice, what do we need to do------and I don't see where we MUST be a APN to do this. I have been a nurse for 16 yrs. I am working on goals of reading and studying over the next year. I can see where I could have business cards and contact physicians about my services. Patients would have to pay for my services out of pocket, but I think there would be patients that would/could do that if my fees were reasonable. Holistic nursing seems to be sort of like a Health coach. I also realized that if I'm going to coach/teach someone on weight loss, I can't need to lose 20 lbs myself. I can't coach/teach nutrition if I'm still eating fries and drinking sodas myself. So, I see that this journey for me will start with ME. What are your thoughts???? Charlee Hi there Charlee. yes I know, I do love that book but I haven't read it all. I am a BS nurse (don't understand what it means to be a RN nurse), graduated 3 years ago and am working in a small rehabilitation hospital in Akureyri, Iceland. Yes you could have your private clinic (I want that) and have patient pay you. I do find my rehabilitation nursing like holistic nursing at least the way I do it. And yes we do health teach/coach and guide people into healthier lifestyle and to be more responsible for their health. So we do have to be responsible for our own health so we can help others. I usually follow my instinct with my patients and guide them into complimentary therapies if I feel they need to even if it is reiki, bowen or homopatic remedies or diet guidelines. I am also using my personal experience more and more to guide my patients and common sence more. patients need it simple and manageble.
  7. But have you taken a look at the Doctor in Nursing Practice. I am sorry if you all ready had that descussion. When I was looking at Holistic Nursing Practice I found that degree with focus on Integrative Health and Healing. I don't know if that apeal to you but it is the degree that I have been looking for (this is the thing that I want to do when I grow up-kind of thing). the thing is that I live in Iceland but contacted the University because they do offer online courses (with intensive weekends). I courage you to take a look and I am sorry if I am repeating something you allready know good luck
  8. I have been looking at the DNP mostly in the States though and have not found anything in Canada yet. I have been in contact with the University of Minnesota about the DNP (kind of clinical Phd) and they offer online courses and most likely other Universities closer to you. It is the same with Canada as my country. The DNP is not recongnized here, yet, but I have been contacting the goverment about this new degree to get it submited as a clinical Phd. Don't give it up if you really want to learn it, you will find a way... good luck
  9. Thank you for your reply. I will look at those websites
  10. sorry I forgot. Is it better to take one test first/second/ last?
  11. Hi there. I am kind of new here and don't live in USA but am looking into taking DNP from U of M, specializing in Integrative Health and Healing. It would be great if you could give me some feedback about all those exams that I do have to take to be able to study in Minnesota, like Toefl, GRE, CGFNS and NCLEX. I found a thread about NCLEX which was very helpful. Like the CGFNS text. How do you prepare for that one? What do you read? thank you if you can help me. :loveya:
  12. those questions you are talking about, are they in Kaplan and the Saunders books or something else you have?? I am a nurse but not in USA but will have to take that text you are talking about in a year. your answers have been very helpful, thank you
  13. hi there sunflower 3 I've been looking at DNP program from the University of Minnesota (www.nursing.umn.edu). They have 14 specialities. check that out
  14. Yes I do agree with Melinurse. I don't know how holistic nurse is analyzed but for me it is how many parts e.g. nutrition, mental health, communication between pt and family, financial status influence my pt to deal with his/her illness. hope that helps, sorry for my english
  15. Not close to Florida just in Minnesota
