  1. Why is there even two different type of nurses (RPN & RN) if RPN can do pretty much everything an RN can do for a fraction of the cost?
  2. Starting wage for RN now is $29 per hour. http://www.ona.org/faqs.html
  3. Getting a little too emotional are you? :chuckle If you would post up facts instead of rambling about your NP bashing opinions, some people would take you seriously. You can stand firm in what you believe in all day if you want. Just don't try to become one of the lemmings who drank too much of the NP hating, insecure physician's koolaid without doing proper due diligence of your own.
  4. Is dgenthusiast even a medical student? From his writing style, he writes like one of the pre-med student member who constantly bashes NP in the doctor forum.
  5. Thank you guys. I will try to use the ideas presented here. I appreciate it. I hope that I can build a good therapeutic relationship with the client.
  6. Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I have a question in regards to dealing with a depressed patient. I have a unique case (or not). My patient doesn't really talk to me. He's in a very depressed state after the loss of a loved one a few years back. Every time I ask him something, he just says that he's okay and wants me to go away. I want to establish a good therapeutic relationship with him first before I utilize my care plan for his depression. Is there anything that I can do to help him?
  7. Thank you for the insight guys. It's unfortunate that we're facing a recession and bad economy. I guess it's affecting everything including our health care system.
  8. I'm in Ontario, and I hear from some of the nurses that the hospitals are in a hiring freeze mode right now. I'm very nervous as one of my reason for becoming a nurse is that I've thought that there is a lot of opportunities and job stability. I've seen ad posters of "RN needed" all over the subway last year. Why is there a hiring freeze then???
  9. I've been reading the forums, and I can see that there is a movement happening from MSc NP to DNP. Any chance of that happening here in Canada? I plan to become a NP someday after my BScN-RN. I can't find any articles related to it. Thanks.
  10. I'm not 100% sure, I don't think you can become a NP/get PhD as a nurse without your bachelor of science in nursing degree. Medical doctors have their own scope of practice. Nurses/NP have their own scope of practice. NP are not medical doctors, but they could perform some of the things that medical doctors do (diagnose, treat, prescribe some medication).
