Dry Hands..Just starting clinicals?
Ok, thanks, Outside of hospital my hands are ok and I have my regular products I use, but that same stuff doesnt really seem to do the trick while on my clinical, with the constant hand washing. I am gonna find a travel size of the nivea to see how that works. Thanks a bunch!

I am going into my third week of clinical and my hands have become extremely dry from the washing and gloving all day. What is the best lotion to use while working?

How to prepare for LVN/LPN school
Everyone is right on point with the suggestions, being a LPN student about 6 weeks so far, its no joke. Its a lot of studying, sometimes I found the web to be a great resource for finding even more information, because sometimes seeing the same thing worded different either from another person or school helps. Also I found reviewing the information for at least 1.5 hours a day is helping me because if you wait until the night before an exam it helps unless of course that works for you.:caduceus: Good luck!

ACLS or CPR traning?
sounds even better I will look into that as well, because I was looking at the wrong course I was a little sticker shocked but I did find one near me for $70 I will call them in the morning as well.

ACLS or CPR traning?
flightnurse2b: Thanks, I thought it was the cpr not the ACLS, but what threw me off was they said for health care professionals... NycCutie: Well the Edison campus gave us a website and told us to take the course for healthcare professionals which the acls came up under it, so its actually the basic cpr class then. Right? Maybe this is a sign, should I transfer to the Paramus campus.

ACLS or CPR traning?
Ok, its been awhile since I have posted. Just trying to get the family and household in order before class start in June. But this is my Biggest hurdle is I still havent gotten my cpr/acls certification. I was under the impression that I needed the cpr but after the first orientation I was told it was the ACLS. Now they refer to americanheart.org but all the classes are almost $300:imbar for the ACLS. I wanted to know if the cpr cert. would be just as good, or if anyone has gotten the certification for free or less than $300 pleassssseee let me know, classes officially start June 15, but final orientation is June 11-12. (oh yeah in case you dont know, I will be attending Lincoln Tech in Edison, NJ).

How useful are iphone applications in Nursing School?
I also have the Iphone 16 gb and I was also looking into the applications for the Iphone as well... "Elkpark" I can understand why they wouldnt want cellphones (because of the interference with some machines) but with the dual purposes they carry ie., Palm Treo, Blackberry's and the IPhone, I dont see why they wouldnt be allowed if you turn off the voice and just use the wifi its the same as using a standard PDA. Hopefully policies have and or will the technology.. just my 2 cents

Lincoln Tech Edison, NJ
Me either, maybe it was another state possibly and whatever it allegedly was sorted itself out... Will you be attending the Edison Campus?

Please tell me a LPN SCHOOL WITH NO WAITING LIST
As far as NJ I applied to Lincoln Tech took the NET, got accepted the same day and now I start in June. Dont think that was much of a waiting list compared to applying to Various Schools and hoping and waiting that I am accepted, that really wasnt an option for me.

What mantra is getting you through nursing school?
I didnt start yet but the way I approach everything is "It's either all or nothing"

Lincoln Tech Edison, NJ

Lincoln Tech Edison, NJ
I am currently starting in June, and after doing extensive internet searches and I did not find anything on Lincoln Tech being investigated. This is real critical for a lot of us in here who is dedicating there time and money and dont want to be shamed in a sense. So if you could link something showing proof of your statement that would be great. Oh and what is BON? Thanks

tatted up and in nursing school
I have several tattoos two of which are on my arm the others are in locations where you really wont see like my foot, thigh, back. All my past jobs I tend to have kept them covered(depending on the shirt), my last job I worked there for ten years I think people in the office just started to see them about 2 years ago they was like wow you have tattoos? (it happen to be a day the AC broke) Starting nursing school in June I will also be covering them up as well. I personally love all of the tattoos but I also believe its a time and a place for everything. And no matter what people will always have an opinion, its the nature of the beast. So to keep the focus on me and my work I keep them covered. If we meet up after work/school then we can talk tattoos and piercing because I have those two. Just my two cents.

Keeping the weight off-- eating on nights.
yeah you would have to plan ahead, I personally do it in the morning. By getting the little snack bags, check the sales on fruit and baby carrots any other veggies you want(I shop on sale) get your lite ranch dressing, your yogurt or what ever you prefer and just portion it all out in your bags..so for instance if you are going to be working a 12 hour shift you would probably want 6 snacks same or different again your preference plus your lunch and water is the key..I personally like water but it gets bland so I buy the crystal light pink lemonade individual sized or even the walmart brand to jazz it up without adding the calories. So whenever you wanna munch go to your lunch bag and pull out your snack. Snack ideas*** of course your fruit at least 1 fruit a day (apples with vanilla yogurt or peanut butter my favorite) baby carrots w/ lite ranch dressing 100 calorie packs (they are high in sugar so I limit them) baked nachos w any salsa granola cheerios These are just some suggestions based on what I do, I use to be a representative for a telecommunications company and something I could work up to 12 hours a day, and to sit at a desk for that amount of time you realize how quickly you can put on the pounds. So to combat the snacking on chips and cakes I started packing my snacks with me and trust me it works. Now dont get me wrong I am not a health nut by any chance. But dont get me wrong you are gonna have those moments when you need that kick kat or some chips we all do....the more you bring with you to work the less outside food you will eat.

Students not working while going to school....
I also took a severance package, because they was offering those who wanted to leave that option. So when I was presented with the offer, I weighed my options and jumped on it and now I start my LPN program in June. Unfortunately I will be using my job reimbursement option and student loans because they do not cover medical degrees or diplomas so I am only able to get coverage for my none nursing classes like A&P, Chemistry, Bio but anything that medical specified classes wont be covered.

I would suggest keeping a lot of fruit and veggie snacks with dip or peanut butter (keeps you full), and yogurts with granola which is high in fiber and it keeps you full longer. The key is to bring everything with you so you would be less likely to go to the vending machines and get kit kats and snickers (although they are sooooo good:yeah: ) Good Luck!!
