Thank you for your efforts to educate me. However, reading the flow chart you provided, "Does the person, business,or agency furnish, bill orreceive payment for, healthcare in the normal course ofbusiness (1)? --->" You betcha! She claims to be a nurse and a DON. Unless she's doing it for free and really does absolutely nothing, she certainly furnishes, bills or receives payment for healthcare. The flowchart says nothing about the time or facility where the breach happened. But, again, if your interpretation is correct and mine is not, I will stand corrected. And if there is no reason for the board to intervene, they won't. Time will tell.

As nurses, I believe we are held to the standards of our licensure. But I could be wrong. It will be interesting to see what the state board has to say. If the board agrees with you, I will stand corrected.

I confess that I am very disappointed in the level of credence that is being given to this supposed DON's claims. Tell me, what exactly is a 'smirk' and how do you know someone is doing it? What if I define your smile as my smirk? What if the DON-diva isn't really related to the patient? What if the supposed smirker was not actually the patient's nurse? What if the whole 'polling the unit' and borrowing a pair of scissors from another unit isn't true? What is true is that she violated a patient's privacy. (You know, that whole HIPAA thing.) What is true is that she, by her own admission, interfered with a patient's care without hauling the attending nurse into the room if the situation was truly that bad. (Also, on my worse day I can take a cobain wrap off without a pair of scissors. Why couldn't said 'veteran' do the same?) Didn't the DON-goddess say that the patient was admitted with a neuro bleed? What caused the bleed? What did the patient's coag profile look like? Was she prone to bruising? What if the timeline that Ms. DON-expert got from the patient wasn't correct? Is it possible a neuro patient is confused? Every one of you who gave any support to this extremely unprofessional 'DON' is guilty of not adequately assessing the situation. All you know is what this person wrote. How many of us have had patient's or families or friends get details so incorrect that they appear to be outright lies? And how can you support someone who professes to 'love reporting nurses to the board, especially new ones.' That would be one of the hardest things I could ever do in my life.

You're probably going to want to check with the admissions folks about what score to shoot for. A 60 would have been the bare minimum just a couple of years back but I was told that the most recent class had a much higher cut-off. Still, my info is second-hand and should be treated as such.

Nope. Usually people are concerned about what is the cutoff score for acceptance. :)

I don't think you should worry about the average. Your problem will be the lowest point cut-off and you are most likely well above that. Unless something has changed since November, if you don't have any GPA problems that preclude you from attending (e.g. failing grades in required courses), you should be in great shape. Overall profile score is what counts once you have taken care of the pre-reqs.

Is 75 your profile score? If so, I'd say your chances are pretty darn good! If for some reason you aren't accepted, CALL and ask about it to make certain that everything was correctly tabulated! Sometimes mistakes are made and aren't caught until someone questions it. On another note, at the last Open House at Charity I learned that there is a misconception that Charity has a 2 year waiting list. NOT SO! There is NO waiting list.

michelle504 - this is just my opinion but while "GPA" is a good thing, "involvement" is better. When one of the big area hospitals opened up their summer nurse intern program, one of the first questions in the interview was "what organizations do you belong to?" followed by "what leadership positions do you hold?" NO mention was made of GPA.

Hi, nolamomx2. Mind if I ask about the physical? In another post (not related to Ochsner), someone said she was tested for ability to lift & carry 50 pounds. Was there anything like that? Blood tests - what are they looking for? Urine tests - is that for drug testing? TB testing - is that the double screening (2 consecutive sticks)? Thanks for any info you can give!

Since I'm bored stupid until summer classes start, I went and got some 2010 numbers from the State Board's latest Examiner for first-time passing of the NCLEX: 227 Charity 169 LSU 40 Holy Cross 34 William Carey 5 Dillard I think that's all of the metro area RN schools, with the exception of OLOL because I don't think they break out the NO area grads from the rest. Total numbers of successful 1st time NCLEX'ers for the entire state was 2064 last year. I've never seen a number for repeat takers. I would be really interested in finding out the number of students who initially enrolled vs. the number who pass NCLEX for the individual schools. It seems like just over 50% for the two biggies.

No restrictions we were made aware off. A cheapo model will do you but will make you crazy. I've got a Littman SE but am probably gonna trade up for a cardio model b/cuz you can hear so much better. You might go to one of the uniform stores and try several different models so you can compare. Oh, and do know that the length of them vary. Mine is 22-inches and wish it were 27 inches.

Charity is switching to the HESI, but I don't know when.

Nishu, probably the best way to find out is to go to the Delgado/Charity SON website and download the form used to score applicants. If you score at least a 55, you stand a good chance of getting in. Higher score = increased likelihood! If you pass both the Phys and Anat courses at LSU, that takes care of the A&P 1 & 2 prereqs for Charity. Currently, Charity uses a straight scoring method (no interviews) to select applicants so you will know pretty much where you stand. Good luck!

I'm guessing that you are talking about Charity, right? My records are so old that they are etched on tablets! I ended up having to have blood titers done and still needed some of the vaccines (as boosters). You are also going to need a tetorifice vac. I think I needed polio, MMR and DTAP. All of the requirements should be listed in the new student paperwork. I believe I had to pull the forms and requirements off the website.

This whole conversation reminds me of the way we talk about relatives - my brother (sister) and his (her) wife (husband) are such incredibly incompetent parents! How in the world did they raise such great kids??? These instructors are so incompetent/power-mad/whatever! How in the world did that school have a 95% pass rate on the NCLEX last year? Thank goodness we students are there to set them straight!

LOL! Wish I could! But we are relying on the collective memories of a bunch of frazzled students. Also, am not sure of the ethics of repeating a test question here. Will have to ask if I can do so. After this past semester, I would hate to get tossed on a technicality like that!!!

More double-checking (i.e. checking with smarter students w/better memories:lol2:): the 2 choices listed by the OP are both incorrect and the info listed as being in the Q is incorrect. The correct answer was a MORE obvious answer.

I double-checked w/another student since the final was 100 Qs long and I didn't specifically remember this one. NOLA1980 is dead on - there was enough info in the Q to pick the correct answer. I appreciated the passion but this "outrage" is misplaced. Nursel56 - too much time on your hands? I'm a student nurse - what's that?
