  1. Actually, Fiona, I have had two encounters with this particular instructor. Neither of which were pleasant.
  2. jjjoy, Thank you. I agree. Beautifully stated.
  3. Is my rage justified. My friend just flunked out of her first semester of Nursing School with a 76 average. 77 is the cut. The failing question (and I don't know it word for word, but here is the general gist of it): An african woman who lives in Africa has an intestinal bug. She believes that by eating pumpkin seeds, the bug will be eliminated. Is this a : religious belief, a cultural belief, is she correct, and few other choices. My friend answered, a cultural belief. As per the teacher: WRONG. First of all, regardless of the question or answer, how is this question even relevant to Nursing? Upon doing her homework and research, my friend could argue it very much IS a cultural thing. She appealed the question. The woman who wrote the question refused to budge and the appeals committee sided with her. So boom. My freind is out. Never mind she is an excellent student. I am outraged. 44 people apparently missed this question. When teachers result to trickery on exams, it is so unfair and the students will never win. What can be done about this? This is, no doubt, a power issue and the teacher is getting off on it. People like that have got to go. BTW, she is a mean and unhappy woman who has been teaching at the school forever. I am beginning in January at the same institution. If I wasn't sufficiently terrified before, I certainly am now. Feedback, please.

  5. They are notorious for mistakes. I absolutely would call them. Don't give up. It is amazing how many people decide not to go....pregnancy, divorce, money issues, a change of heart, relocation etc. You would be surprised. And, there is no deadline when you are on the waitlist. It could be a week before the program starts when you get the call. It is like the army....you gotta be ready to go when they call. Do not give up hope. Hope is our best friend. Just get your ducks in a row, plan on going thru with your alternate plan, and if they happen to call jump on it. I would touch base with them every now and then. It can't hurt.
  6. I read your story. Amazing and I am so happy things worked out for you. Noone is really going to look out for you. We are all "big girls" now. Time to get your big girl pants on. You really need to stay on it. Look out for yourself. I wouldn't worry about bugging them. Call and say you want to be sure they have your correct address because you recently moved. Ask them to read it back to you. That way there are no mistakes. Squeaky wheel!
  7. Gosh, Kubana87, it has been a while. If I remember correctly, it wasn't too terribly long. A few weeks maybe? If you received your acceptance letter in the mail then I wouldn't worry too too much. That means that they have the correct address....not to imply you wrote it down wrong, but that they could have transposed some numbers etc. I wouldn't put much past them. Back in the day, Charity was the shizzzz! Unfortunately it is the Delgado end of it that is doggone pathetic. I have had very few (in fact I can think of only two) competant people affiliated with Delgado (city park) My advisor NEVER gave me the correct advice, could never get her on the phone, never returned calls etc. I hear, and I hope it is true, even though Charity is technically delgado, the teachers and aministrators affiliated with Charity are good, interested, concerned people that truly are interested in your success. THANKS BE TO.....
  8. I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!! CONGRATULATIONS! The admissions board is "old". Some of the members of the board really need to be retired. Just think of how many people DON'T question their scores....and they just accept the denial letter, broken hearted and all. Actually it makes me angry. There should be some sort of check and balance system. I am very happy for you girls. There is a lot left to do. Start looking around for liability insurance, cpr courses, think about the meds you are on and decide if you really need to be on them, gather up info on any arrests you may have had (from dui to drug possession), line up a visit with your Dr. and start on your hepatitis vaccines NOW, etc etc. There is a lot left to do!
  9. (The admissions committee is not infallible. In fact, my girlfriend and I had the exact same resume. The same classes, grades (she had one more A than me), same profile score (except I scored two points higher on the teas) and I was accepted and she was denied. The two of us went down there the very next day to speak to someone. While we were sitting in the office she readded her profile sheet. Sure enough a mistake was made by the committee and my friend was accepted right then and there. Mistakes are NOT uncommon. Speak to them in person. Let them put a face to the name on the application. It makes a difference. Good luck.
  10. kubana87, If you are sure about posting a 70 profile score, I would absolutely go down there TOMORROW to see why in the world you didn't get in. This just does not sound right. Good grief. I am sorry.
  11. Hi Ladies: I am so sorry about your recent news. I am so surprised a 55 composite score did not get in. All of you need to go down to Charity and speak to the admissions director and ask what was the problem. It could be that there were a ton of applicants thus making the composite cutoff higher than in the past. Ask how close you were to making it and to be put on a wait list. Do not give up. You all are young and have time to improve your scores and try again. Chin up and on you go. DO NOT GIVE UP.
  12. Good luck, ladies!! Keep us posted.
  13. I am beginning Chairty in January. You will have no problem getting in. Most people do not have all of their pre reqs when they apply, but will be finished with them by the time the program starts. I think your TEAS scores are fine. Retaking it is a bit risky because they will take the latest score, not the highest one. The cut off for our class was 55. They took 250 students. Getting your acceptance letter is the beginning of the hoop jumping. There are many other things that you need to do before you actually begin. A CPR class for one. Full disclosure of all meds that you take with a letter from your physician is another. Good luck and stay the course. You will absolutely be accepted.
