Accelerated KSU Spring '10
I looked back and I think I may have gotten 2 B's? I'm not sure...I have taken way too many college classes! =) Maybe my essay wasn't as good as the rest. I wouldn't worry about it. They can't only be getting people with 4.0's and all A's!

Accelerated KSU Spring '10
This is my third time applying. And I have A's in all my prereq's and a 3.7 gpa. Sigh...wish it wasn't so hard to get into! Good luck to you all!

Where are you taking your STNA training? So you have to be an STNA in order to work as a PCNA at Cleveland Clinic? Thanks!

Tri-C in Cleveland
Ok, last question....forgot to add this. What campus did you apply at? (the eastern, metro or western?) Thanks again!

Tri-C in Cleveland
Thanks for the quick answer! I just feel so overwhelmed since I'm trying to apply to as many schools as I can in case I don't accepted to some, so I'll have other options. When you applied to Tri-C, did you have to fill out the separate "Health Careers Application" too? I didn't see it on the nursing page, but came across it by mistake on some other degree. I would assume I would have to fill it out too. Ok, I'll with all the questions =) Thanks so much for your help.

STNA Pay?
The place I"m at now does classes (I'm actually still in class...just started this week). I would love to go to a hospital after. Ugh, already I'm hearing crazy stories about the job and people working here. I didn't realize you could work in a hospital though!

The place I'm at in Cuyahoga Falls pays $8.50 until you pass your state test, then it's $9.75 for first shift, $10.75 for 2nd and 3rd.

Anyone get their degree from Akron Institute?
Hi LookUp2Sky, I was just wondering, did you have to become an STNA at Akron Institute? I'm currently in my 2nd day of an STNA course, I had signed up and paid for it awhile ago hoping it would help my chances of getting into Kent. (it didn't haha) But I decided I may as well take it. But now I'm not so sure, and it seems like a waste of time if I dont' plan on working as an STNA. But if you have to become certified anyways at school, I guess it makes sense to keep taking the course. Just thought I'd get your thoughts on it! Thanks!

New to STNA class
Um, wow. I just started my state tested nurses assistant course Monday and goodness! The book work is beyond easy, so that's no problem at all. But they handed out the "red book" of 25 skills that we have to learn. Are they serious? Or after you practice them, do they get easier? It's already 2 days in of the 11 day class and we haven't gone over any! I've gone over handwashing and abdominal thrust on my boyfriend tonight. Do they get easier the more you do them? I'm just super overwhelmed since a few of them have 24 steps!! Ok...I need to calm down.....just nervous b/c we have to perform them in front of the class sigh.

Anyone get their degree from Akron Institute?
Hi Hoping, I wouldn't worry about the TEAS at all. I signed up for it like 2 days before I was supposed to take it and decided to look it up on here and got all freaked out because a lot of people failed it and a bunch of people had bought review books and stuff, so I thought I'd be way under prepared. But it wasn't bad at all!! If you want to review, I did a search on TEAS test stuff and found this link: http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0809222302/student_view0/ if you click on the chapters you can do a practice review and it's pretty much the level of questions on the teas test. And it will give you the background for it. I also agree with the above poster, but I had asked someone who recently graduated and someone who works there and I believe it's now in the higher $29K. But I believe it will be worth it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Anyone get their degree from Akron Institute?
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to see how things were going with you. Are you working someplace now or going back to school? I took the TEAS test at AI a few days ago and passed it, so I'll be turning in my app for the Jan class. Hope I get in!

STNA training class at Bath Manor
The science portion wasn't too bad, it asked some chem stuff that I probably would of missed if I hadn't just taken a chem class recently, so go over the periodic table and know about valence electrons and basic stuff like that, but overall, it was pretty straightforward. It had a lot of fraction questions in the math part. Like dividing and adding them...which I completely forgot how to do! Felt like a nerd..haha. I think each part had about 40 questions, and the last part (English) had 55, but that section went fast. It was mainly paragraphs with underlined parts and you have to determine whether it's correct or not. I reviewed this last night and I think it helped me a lot. http://www.testprepreview.com/teas_practice.htm It seems to go over a lot of geometry and anatomy, which I only had one question each, so I studied way too much on that stuff, but I guess you never know. The lady who talked to us before the test said they get about 150 applying for January, 55 applying in May and 200 applying for September. I didn't realize they only select 30 people, and it's only based on your gpa and TEAS test score. Let me know if you have any other questions and if you think you'd be applying for the Jan start date. =)

STNA training class at Bath Manor
Just got done with the test, it wasn't bad at all and I hadn't really prepared for it, except to go over a practice test the night before. Glad that's out of the way! Now I just need to turn in my application and wait and see!

Associate degree nursing programs
Hello Everyone, Ok, so I just realized that I've wasted so many months only applying to Kent State's Accelerated BSN program and they keep turning me down . I think my former gpa isn't good enough, which there is nothing I can do about that, so I need to look at other options. I'm thinking of getting my associate's degree which would put me in the industry and then I can work on my BSN later. Just wondering for the people who have gotten their associates degree, where did you go to school? I've missed the deadline for any of Kent State's satellite campuses, so I'm thinking maybe Akron Institute...but I'm still looking around. I got a postcard from National Institute of Technology, but I haven't heard of anyone graduating from there, so I'm not sure about them. Does any one have any info about them? Thanks for any help. Hopefully I'll get this all figured out eventually! :wink2:

Cheap STNA Classes
It might be too far for you, but the cheapest I found (and the one I'm going to) is at Traditions at Bath Road. It's only $200 and you have a great chance of being offered a position there. All the rest around Akron/Cuyahoga Falls etc were in the $450's+

STNA training class at Bath Manor
Thanks! I had applied to Kent State's BSN program, but just found out I didn't get accepted, so I'm just going to concentrate on working as an STNA for now and apply to schools for my Associate degree. U of Akron has a lot of prereq's, so I think I'll just do the associate thing and get into the industry and try for the BSN bridge later on. I'm taking the TEAS test friday for Akron Institute, so hopefully that will go well. They don't start until Jan, so I'll be able to get a few months of work in before going to school, and they're program is only 13 months, so that's not bad. And I like how they are super close. Good luck with your school too!

LPN schools in Cleveland area/NE Ohio?
Well, I have no idea about the LPN school, but I can offer advice about going back to school. I graduated from college in 2001, but decided I wanted to go into nursing. I took a prereq' course for Kent State's BSN program this summer. It was an intercession course, so the entire semester is crammed into 13 days. The class I took was organic chemistry, which scared me to death because I never was very good at chemistry. And to add to it, I have a 4 month old daughter. But, I was able to find time to study, I stayed at school an extra 2 hours after class to get most of my studying in. I studied while feeding her, while she napped, when she was in her swing. It wasn't the best studying environment, but I was able to get an A in a very tough course. I think if you really want to do this, it will be possible. I never thought I'd be able to pass organic chemistry, but I made it happen because I had to pass in order to apply for their program. So I'm sure it will be a little tough, but you can do it. =) Just think of it as a little rough now, but once you are done, it will be all worth it. Ok, sorry for the rambling, but I was so scared to try anything with a newborn, but I realize now that even though it causes a few more hassles, it can be done.
