  1. The akron institute is an awful school. My husband was enrolled there. He was on the dean's list. Straight A's in every class. He was failed twice, two separate classes, making it so he can no longer attend. First time was because the instructor said his bp reading was 2 points off her's and that meant he failed that class. The second time was because the instructor didn't like him and decided to blind side him at their last clinical. His class started this most recent term with 30 students, and they are down to 15. This is one year into the program. This school tries to fail the students. It is a very very tough program. If you have a job, forget about it. You have to dedicate every second of your free time to studying because it is accelerated, 8 weeks per class, 3 classes at a time. They honestly try to fail you. The instructors obviously hate their jobs because they are awful to the students and the director of the program, though she is nice, backs the teachers 100%. (That is why my husband, who was a straight A student, made the dean's list every term, was failed the last 10 minutes of the last clinical of the term.) Its a ******** school. I honestly wouldn't recommended it. It will be a waste of your time and money.
  2. I got a letter and brochure in the mail today from North Coast Tutoring Services in Solon, OH. Its a RN bridge program for LPNs, Paramedics and Respiratory Theraists. The website and brochure say its a blended program on online and in class. Class is supposed to be 4 hours one day a week either days, evenings or weekends. I was just wondering if anyone had more information that what is provided on their website Nursing Education by North Coast Tutoring Services - LPN to RN Program in Cleveland, Ohio or brochure. I plan on attending one of their info sessions. Also, their website and brochure say they are NLN accredited, but I cannot find them on the NLNAC site. Thanks in advance!
  3. Rets is accredited and the program isn't overly hard. It is very unorganized but they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate for all PN classes thus far. Their RN program is at 97%. I will be graduating there in 4 weeks. Their new class of students is huge. So its gaining in popularity and I have heard of a wait list now. Its 15 months, all classes start at 5 pm and clinicals are on the weekends ranging from 8-12.5 hour days (depending on the semester). The entrance exam is a modified HESI and it is VERY VERY EASY. It is nothing to sweat over at all.
  4. Brown Mackie is a very bad school. Everyone I know that has gone there or is going there wishes that they hadn't. The Akron Institute is a good school. I know a couple of people that have graduated there and my husband is currently attending their RN program. They seem good. Kent and Stark do not have LPN programs. Honestly, the only benefit I see for even attending an LPN program is that most of the bridge to RN programs around here do not have a wait list, so its a way to bi-pass a 2-3 year wait for an RN program. I speak from experience. I am graduating an LPN program in the Akron area in 8 weeks and there are no jobs.
  5. Bohecker is a RETS program and I am 8 weeks from graduating from RETS and I must tell you, don't do it. Its a bad program. There is no organization and they really don't care about you. Its just bad!
  6. What is the wait like for a LPN to get in to the bridge (lpn-rn) at Stark State? I am graduating in April of 2010 as an LPN and want to get into a bridge program ASAP! I have looked into Kent State, and I am very interested, but Stark State is closer and I would like to know more about it. I am going to the information session in February, but a little info from you would be great! Thanks!
  7. Well I can assure that the Rets program at NIT is not good at all. This place is a joke. The teachers tell you more about their family life than about the subject they are to be teaching and when something is said about it to the correct channels. nothing, and I mean nothing, gets done about it. I origially thought this was a great school. I would say run the other way.
  8. Yes, as long as you have passed one semester of nursing school, you can register and sit for the STNA test. I personally went through the classes and was told that by the DON of the program. Two of my classmates just registered and took the STNA test 2 weeks ago without taking the training classes. We are in our third semester (just started) so all you have to do is find a testing agency and register for the test. This link should help you locate an Ohio testing place. http://www.hdmaster.com/testing/cnatesting/ohio/OH_STNA_Home.htm Good luck!

Hello. I am going to school for a practical nursing degree. I have a job interview Monday at a nursing home for a STNA position. They offer training, but because I am going to school to be a nurse, I can opt out of it. I was just wondering what the average pay for an STNA around Akron/Canton is? I don't expect to get rich working as an STNA, but I have a small family to support and just wondering if its possible. (I will get all this info from the interview in a couple days, but I am curious now.) Thank you in advance!

I am going through the Rets College School of Nursing at NIT in Cuyahoga Falls and I love it. Its an excellent program. I highly recommend it. If the other campuses are like this one, I say go for it!
  12. NIT in Cuyahoga Falls offers a 15 month evening LPN program. I am in my first semester there. The next class starts in April. I am earning my LPN and then I plan to either earn my RN or BSN degree. But I wanted to be able to work as a nurse while earning that degree. I really like my school (NIT). Its the Rets College of Nursing at NIT. (That is the technical name of the program.) If you are interested, send me a private message and I can give you the contact info of my admissions rep.
  13. I decided to get my LPN first because I wanted to get working soon. I can make money, LPN's around here make between $15 and $20/hr to start. My ultimate goal is a BSN as well. This way I can be earning money working as a nurse while I work on my RN/BSN. I don't know if I want to go through UA or what yet.
  14. Considering the economy and the fact that most schools have a wait list for their RN programs, there isn't much of a reason to not go the LPN route first. I am doing it because I want to make some money and gain experience while earning an RN. There was no wait list for the program at NIT, so I got right in. Not to mention, you don't have pre-req's you absolutely have to have before you can start taking nursing classes.
  15. At my school, you had to take the HESI to get into the program. Its not hard at all. It is very easy and if you have to take it before you graduate, there should be no reason you can't pass it. I have been out of school for 3 years and took the HESI and passed the first try. Do you have the HESI study guide?
