  1. I love Lisa Frank stuff too!! I have Hello Kitty pencils that I use for school. If it is pink and has Hello Kitty on it, I want it!!!
  2. Defenbaker is my dogs name. Saw the name on a TV show and just thought it was a cool name for a dog.
  3. The instructor reading the same material that the students read is a must. I also have had instructors that when you pointed out stuff that was in the book they had no clue about it. Also, I like it when the teacher relates nursing stuff to everyday stuff to explain it. I have had several teachers that do this and find that it helps me remember the information better. Sometimes getting up and moving around or even little trips around campus can help too. My old A&P teacher made us get up and assigned each of us a part of the heart and then each of us one by one had to put our classmates in order of how blood flows thru the heart. I have never forgotten the flow of blood since. One of our med/surg teachers took us outside and walked around the campus to help explain our lungs and what was going on as we increased our actiivity.
  4. You definitely should put some study time into it just because the points for it are used towards where you rank to get into clinicals. For clinicals they assign points for each class you have taken and also for what your score was on the NLN. For a 90-99 6points, 80-89 5points, 70-79 4points, ect... So it definitely can help the higher your score is. The test is on the computer and they have a calculator that you can use. They also will give you scrap paper you can use too. I think I paid around $25 for the study guide and it had practice tests in it. You probably could find the study guide cheaper though on amazon.com
  5. My school has our program set up so that we have everything we need to get our LVN if we want to after the first year. The other schools in our state don't have their programs set up that way. You would just have to make sure the school offers that.
  6. She probably was referring to the critical reading class. When you first enroll they usually make you take a placement test to see where your reading level is at. If your score is high enough you will be exempt and don't have to take the class but if your score is low they will make you take the class to bring your reading skills up.
  7. Also,Stanton is just a straight RN program. Terry offers the option that after the first two semesters you can take your LPN test and start working as an LPN while still in school for your RN. Wasn't sure if either of you would be interested in that or not. The Stanton campus does not offer mental health during the first clinical year, whereas Terry does. The Delaware board of Nursing won't let you take the LPN boards unless you have had mental health.
  8. I go to DTCC Terry campus. The program at Terry is run differently than the Stanton campus. Terry campus they give you a list of the dates for the NLN and you pick which date you want to do it on. Terry has two sets of clinicals a semester. One is during the day and one is at night. To get a seat for clinicals they have a point system, the higher your points the quicker you get in. I think the most points is 16 or 17 if I remember correctly. You get points for each prereq. class you have taken and what your grade was. For instance clinical math if you got an A you get 3 points, if you get a B you get 2 points, a C 1 point. They have all the info on their website Nursing Department @ Terry Campus. Right now for the NLN they only have thru December dates but sometime in December they will probably list the January dates for the testing.
  9. Hi! I am in the RN program at DTCC Terry campus. Hoping to graduate in May 2011 (as long as I pass). I took my LPN boards over the summer and passed so I do have my LPN license now. I haven't found a job yet because all of the places want you to do orientation during the daytime and with school I just can't do it.
  10. I was skeptical. But the good pop was the only thing that kept me sane over the long weekend!!!! Found out today that I passed. This does work!!!:lol2::lol2:
  11. Yes, I used financial aid (student loans, loans are all I am eligible for) to pay for all of my prereq classes. I start my clinicals this fall and have already got everything set up for my financial aid for the Fall and spring semesters.
  12. Hi! I start August 24th. Can't wait!! Very excited and nervous. I go to Deltech in Delaware.
  13. Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of whiners in nursing school. We had one in our micro class that would show up at least 15-20 minutes late to every class or would just skip class completely. She missed somewhere around 6-7 classes in a 16 week course. Sometimes she would would come to class (late of course) and then only stay for 30 mins and then leave right in the middle of lecture. When asked by other classmates why she was never in class she stated "I am a newlywed and need to spend time with my husband". She would start literally crying after taking about every other test because she knew that she failed it. Then it came time to turn in our research paper. The teacher had the due date on the syllibus and it also said could turn in ahead of time, several times in class she mentioned due date and could turn it in at anytime up to due date. Well guess who didn't come to class that day. The next class (after due date) she waltzes in and hands her research paper to the teacher. The teacher was like, I cannot accept this it is past the due date and I told everybody that I would not accept any papers past the due date. The student got so mad, when the teacher left the room she whined and complained about how this wasn't fair to her and the teacher should accept her paper. Come to find out her mother was friends with the head of the nursing dept at our school. She had her mother call the head of the dept and got the teacher to accept her paper. Everybody else in the class was hot!!!! The teacher had to do what the nursing head wanted.
  14. Hi! I also go to the terry campus. It stinks that you have to retake the classes. If you still have to do classes online, terry does have online classes for the prereq. classes. Just the actual clinical classes that have to be done on campus. I did the math course thru online and the only time I had to come on campus was to take the tests. You take the test at the testing center which is open in the day, night and on Saturdays. I work full time so it was good for me so I could go at night or on Saturdays to take my test. The CRT and the comp they also offer online but not sure how they work, should be about the same.
  15. I keep seeing a lot of posts on this site saying that new grads are having problems getting jobs. However, it seems like it may be subject to where you live. Just wanted to see if anybody in Delaware is having problems with finding a job?
