Wow, do I know what you mean. I have about 7 months left in my nursing school and when I was about 3 months in I remember thinking to myself 'maybe nursing isn't for me' I felt so overwhelmed and out of my element that I second guessed myself hard. Then, about 7 months in I felt a different sense. It was almost like I was being pulled in so many directions that I wasn't sure I was going to get this straight. But, then at one point it does click and everything you learned earlier on comes back to you and you use it in your clinicals and then you step back and say 'Hey! I am a nurse!'. Now, with a short 7 months till graduation I know I have this! You will, too!

I have been attending nursing school for 9 months now. We started in a class of 39. We are currently at 23 students remaining. Slowly but surely those who could not handle the stress or the rules have fallen by the wayside. There are those who complain and whine at every turn. Some of the students complain at how the instructors are too strict, how much homework we have, how early we have to be at the hospital, how long we have to remain at school, how they aren't told exactly what to study for the tests, and so on. Can you believe it? HOw ridiculous for those who are trying to get into the profession of nursing to be complaining about how hard it is. What did they expect? Did they think this would be easy? Did they think that only a half-hearted attempt at studying would garner them a nursing license to take care of the health and welfare of others? Did they really think that they could skate by without having to work so hard? I am constantly amazed that there are those who just want to give their minimum and still receive the maximum. Who do they think they are kidding? THEMSELVES ONLY! I wish that nursing school would include a lesson taught in taking themselves and the profession seriously. Then, the rest of us wouldn't have to put up with all the whining constantly.

Carolc, this time it is you who is making me laugh. I am currently in the classroom that has an air conditioner that will not cool the room enough and during the winter did not warm it enough either. Water leaks when it rains and when the wind blows....we wonder if the roof will hold. Our chairs have fallen apart at times....even with the nurse in it. But we pay a hefty sum to be here. As long as they can help me pass my NCLEX I will be where I want. Coffee machine? What we wouldn't give.....

I agree with Carol. I was on a waiting list at the local community college program and had been on it for 2 1/2 years. It was a lottery every semester. The program whould have cost me about 2800 dollars to complete. I am paying 18,000 for the private school I got into within 3 months of applying. I have gotten a pell grant for 5000 and am trying to find as many scholarships as I can no matter how small to help in every way it can. But I am 44 years old and will finish just after celebrating my 45th birthday. I dont want to wait much longer. I want to be a nurse before I need one myself!

I am in the middle of my LVN program and when I am finished I will have taken out $18,000 in student loans to pay for my education. Maybe for some people that is not alot, but it is alot for me and my husband who is not working full-time yet in this economy. We have 2 children and I wonder if I will be able to pay this back easily or if it will become a burden even with me working. At first I thought that getting a job right away after getting my license was going to be easy, but I have heard that some people have to wait a while. I even know someone who has been out of school for a year and has not found a job yet. We are in Southern California and this idea is very scary. So, only take out what you can be sure you can pay back. Don't think that nursing is the road to financial freedom. It will only help you keep above the water while most people around you are sinking.
