  1. It sounds like a great idea to start up a small clinic offering those services some day. There is a great need for this type of service, and you'll surely never get bored. From my experience, if you become a Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Women's Health - you'll definitely be qualified for this type of field. You don't necessarily need to "hire" or "work for" an MD as others have mentioned because NP's can easily call the shots on their own and are usually trained very well to handle many situations, espcially in the specialty you are aiming for. You could very well do so, hire an MD if you chose to, but it has nothing to do with the success of your clinic. It's just a preference. All the best in your future endeavors, it sounds awesome to me! :)
  2. Chiss - we'll be JUST fine! Do you know when we should receive our letters? I've been hearing different things. One in April...and one in March. I'm sure it's bound to come sometime around then though. Hope to see ya soon at TVCC!!:)
  3. LG - I'll be at the Kaufman location. I believe Palestine is where they have the LVN program. El Centro's nursing department staff are not the friendliest people at all. I've had numerous interactions with them that pulled me away from considering going there for nursing school. However, I've taken other classes there like chemistry, micro, and pharmacology and had some really great instructors. So I would never say the whole school has issues, but I will say that I haven't heard many good things about the nursing department as a whole. Feel free to send me an email or private message anytime! It's great chatting with you & who knows, we may be working side by side one of these days!
  4. Thank you! I will definitely post the news once I receive my letter. I'm excited. I'm also transferring from DCCCD so don't worry about that! I heard good things about Brookhaven's program and have a friend that is currently in the nursing program there. She mentioned that the instructors are very supportive and helpful and that it's a good environment to learn in. I would definitely apply there too if I were you. El Centro...well...I haven't heard many great things actually, and I know some people who ar in that program as well. I'm sure you'll be fine whereever you are! Keep me posted if you can about your acceptance as well! Take care!
  5. Just curious to know if anyone on allnurses.com has applied to TVCC in Kaufman? I'm guessing theres a long wait until the letters go out and thought we could form a mini support group! lol. Also, if there is anyone on here that has gone through the program or have any knowledge about TVCC nursing, such as do/did you like the program, instructors, clinical/clincal sites, & the quality of education. Please post here, Thanks! Hope to hear from you all soon.
  6. It's hard to change your biological clock from what it is used to. You may just need to invest in some really dark curtains to keep the sun out in your bedroom and make yourself sleep at a certain time everyday. Eventually, you being tired from work at night is going to cause you to get some sleep during the day! Trust me!!
  7. I think you said it just right - keep your mind, and especially your HEART on your ultimate goal, and you will be just fine! Many people have done it already and just know that you can too. I think the main thing to is believe in yourself and know that you can acheive all things. Even though nursing school is a lot of work and demanding, please remember to make time for R&R. Rest and recovery is so important! You've made it this far mom35, you'll do great to the end! All the best and God bless!
  8. Congrats mom35! I knew you would get in! Worrying is such a waste of time, glad you can relax a little and prepare for your future ahead. As for me, I'm currently taking classes at El Centro, but will not be applying to their program. I'm applying to other schools for various reasons. However, I hope for you all the best in your program as well as everyone else who applied! To all of those that didn't get in...don't give up! PLEASE don't! It's not because you are not competent...it's that there are not many teachers to teach so the slots are few. It will happen for you...believe, have faith, and P.U.S.H!! I love this community...let's keep supporting each other and bringing in all the postive energy and prayers for one another. Take care!
  9. mom35...haven't heard from you today...did you get your letter??
  10. Trek, congrats on your acceptance to Brookhaven's program! You'll probably be much happier~ I've heard so many good things about the porgram and the support of their instructors. Also...100% pass rate on NCLEX...you can't beat that! mom35...I'm sure yours will come today. Please post your good news b/c I'm sure you'll get in!
  11. No letter for me yet, either. I'm sure it will come tomorrow. I hope everyone posts their results so we can cheer each other on! One more day folks...stay positive and keep the FAITH!
  12. That's right! I've left the rest to God a long time ago. Thanks for the encouragement.
  13. I applied to El Centro/Northlake as well. I really don't have any preferences on whether or not it is El Centro or Northlake...but it would be nice to be at El Centro to just ride the train there instead of driving in crazy traffic all the time!! Either way, I know it will work out! The letters are supposed to come by April 15th, but I made my mind up to get it either the 17th or the 18th! That way, I don't have to go crazy waiting on my acceptance letter.
  14. I think that you are making a wise decision by considering the LVN to sustain your family. Once you are a "nurse" the door is always open to easily further your education online, through work (which will pay for you) and through universities/community colleges. If I were in your place, I'd consider the same thing. Keep your head up, everything will work out for the good....

CONGRATULATIONS!!! 2 years from now, I will be praising God when I pass the NCLEX as well!! Glad that you have it over with and I wish you well in your career paths, wherever you decide to go!
  16. Well, I suppose that was just a rumor as I suspected. Thanks for checking on that mom35. I'm looking forward to the program (mostly finishing)...maybe we'll be in the same class. The wait is coming to an end pretty soon. Keep the faith!
  17. Congratulations on your acceptance letter to TVCC for the Fall semester! That is a great milestone to reaching your dreams. Don't be scared, trust in God for everything and that will get you through. God didn't bring you thus far to leave you hanging! I'm sure you'll be fine, and in about 3 weeks, I'll be celebrating with you as well because I'm expecting my letter in the mail!
  18. Hello, I've been hearing that El Centro's RN program for the Fall 09' semester is having a low turnout of applications. I'm not sure if this information is factual or rumors, but just wondering if any of you have heard anything about that and if so, do you know what the cause is? Thanks to all!
  19. I'll have to join you in commending all of the oncology nurses out there. My sister is a breast cancer survivor and it was GOD who blessed us with wonderful nurses that gave endless comfort and care. Thank YOU!!
  20. I would think the 24/48 hour shifts may be a little rigorous for you during your nursing education. However, I'm sure any fire department would love to have you especially with your nursing knowledge. You may want to talk to a potential fire department and see if they could be "fexible" with you school schedule. You may be surprised! I have a friend how is a flight nurse and works 3 days a week (which is full-time). She does 24 hr shifts normally and is basically required to sleep until they recieve a call. She loves the adrenaline of being on the helicopter to rescue people. I'm not sure how experienced you have to be...but she's been an RN for 7 years and has been doing flight nursing for about 3 years. It believe it depends on the hospital and the types of calls they recieve for flights. Hoping all the best to you in your educational endeavors!
  21. You deserve better! I'm sure there are other avenues for you to do. Not sure what city in Texas you are in but try looking for clinics that are apart of major hospitals.
  22. Wow! Amazing idea. I think what you did...taking your LPN boards first was a very wise decision. I think I'll follow that same thing. Thanks!
  23. God brought you thus far...he won't fail you! Breathe deeply and pace yourself. Study often knowing that it will all be over soon. Believe in yourself. You'll make a great nurse!
  24. My first question would be if the patient has a record at the facility that could have been looking up because 9 times out of 10 people will not know what they prescribed every single patient at the top of their head. However, the yelling should NEVER be tolerated and I'm sorry to hear you went through that from an idiot doctor! I would definitely not yell back so that they could feel even more stupid! You shouldn't tolerate that. You are not 'a doctor's nurse', but a Registered Nurse who is a professional caregiver just as anyone else is who is giving care in the facility. You need to tell the charge nurse, or DON as soon as possible. That should NOT be tolerated and nurses are in demand so to where I would be surprised if it was!!
  25. I would say that your local community college with the nursing program is the best decision for you! You'll get your RN in 2 years and can began working soon after while allowing whomever you work for pay for the rest of your education. I would say that is the smartest decision. As with your pre-reqs. They don't really take 3/1/2 years. It depends on the person and the amount of work you're willing to put into each semester. Usually your pre-reqs for your associates degree in nursing is not more than 12 credit hours. (Which is classified as full time). However, you may not want to take those science classes all at the same time, so give yourself 1-2 years to complete your pre reqs. You'll be glad you did. Look up your community college and see exactly their requirements/pre-reqs and stick with that. Also, come to work soon...we NEED you!!:wink2:
