State skill test tomorrow!
first off...good luck tomorrow!!!! i just took my state test this past friday and passed!!! so my advice for you is to definitely relax, breathe, and try to picture a resident from clinicals in front of you...stop and think about what to do first and what to do next for that resident to get the best care. i know your nervous...because let me tell you, i thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest but i stopped and took a deep breath and remembered how i took care of my residents. you'll do great! oh and i'm from indiana and my skills were: handwashing, assist to edge of bed, assist to chair, brush hair, and unoccupied open bed.

To all current and former CNA students
Thank you for your reply! How many skills all together do you have to learn? 20-25? I know we have to memorize all of the skills because we don't know which 5 we will get right?

CNAs and weight
Also, I guess it depends on the person and their way of relieving stress and of course *their job*.
-
CNAs and weight
No offense to the people who write these article's but they obviously have a desk job and have NO CLUE what CNA work entails. I'm not a CNA yet but I have many friends who are and let me just say that NONE of them are *fat* and some have actually said they've lost weight since starting their job. Maybe they think that the healthcare industry is so stressed and over worked to where *they think* when people get off work...all they do is eat, or perhaps gain weight caused by stress...I don't know. But CNA work being the fattest job out there? Impossible!

To all current and former CNA students
I was wondering if any of you could tell me how many skills you have to memorize for the state exam? I know you only have to do 5 skills and I know you don't get to choose but any insight would be appreciated. I've looked high and low on this website but every state is different, so I figured why not ask the people who live in Indiana . Thanks a bunch!

How to keep CNA certification in Indiana?
I thought thats what you meant, but I wanted to be sure. Thank you for answering my question!

How to keep CNA certification in Indiana?
I live in Indiana and I'm about to take cna classes and was wondering something, say you only work part-time 6 hours a night, does that mean after two years if I don't have one shift of ATLEAST 8 hours I have to retake the class and test again? even if I work part-time 5 days a week? or does that only mean if you DON'T work you have to put in atleast 8 hours for the year to keep your certification active? Sorry little confused.
-
How long did it take you to complete your CNA program
I also start mine next month, 18 days long m-f 5:00pm-11:30pm. 8 days for class and 10 days for clinicals...same time for all. Live in southern Indiana by the way.

What would you do in my situation? just looking for opinions.
my daughters visit with x-rays was 800 dollars. might not sound like a lot but to a household of four with one worker...800 too much. and we even have good insurance! its just the point...its ridiculous actually. dnp2004, thats just terrible what happened to that woman...seriously how do people do the things they do? even when they know what their doing is wrong! i could never work for someone knowing that what i do is hurting people..knowing about it and acting like its no skin off my back because atleast its not happening to me..i seriously wonder how some people sleep at night. i'm just glad everything is going good for her now. batman24, i just may do that...thanks for the advice! stinger530, well im glad to hear your little (umm big boy lol) is doing so well. and i hope you get them grandchildren soon . i agree with motherhood being exhausting at times...im tired as we speak, my little ones have been sick for a week now. momma needs some sleep!! hehe. southern, thanks for the advice also..i kinda figured this wouldn't be easy. life never is, is it? i'll definitely talk to them and send the request in.

What would you do in my situation? just looking for opinions.
i'm calling the insurance company again tomorrow and making sure the hospital sent in a new claim...i haven't heard back from anyone (hospital or insurance). does anyone know how long i have until its too late to do anything? i've called the hospital already and the lady agreed with me and sent in another claim but i'm afraid if i wait too long to hear anything, it will be too late. what if she forgot to send it in?! stinger530 i'm glad your little boy is ok. being a mother is the hardest but most rewarding job on this planet!! we moms go through soo much lol.

What would you do in my situation? just looking for opinions.
thank you guys so much for all of your advice!!! i seriously about went crazy when the insurance company told me that the hospital coded it "fear of concern"....duh...but good gosh we're talking about a two year old swallowing a battery!! and we have good insurance too. i understand that medicaid is harder to deal with but we have normal insurance with my husbands employer and i never thought i'd be dealing with this at all. that's another reason i didn't hesitate on taking her because i knew (well thought i knew) that insurance would understand and cover it. anyway...i'm definitely not letting this drop and thanks for all of the support!!! oh and sonjailana, good luck with your insurance company too. i really hated to hear about your situation also...keep us posted!

What would you do in my situation? just looking for opinions.
hello everyone! about 3 weeks ago my son comes running up to my husband and i screaming and crying that his little sister swallowed a battery...a battery! she runs into the living room (they were playing back in his bedroom) and acts like shes got something in her throat but we couldn't see anything. so what would any concerned parent do? we take her to the emergency room to make sure she's ok. i know that battery acid can be fatal and she's just 2 years old, so we weren't about to wait overnight to see if something would happen (also this was around 8 at night so no doctors office was open where we live). so as we are driving to the hospital we're trying to calm our 5 yr old son down because he thinks the doctors are going to have to cut her open and also making sure our daughter is ok in the meantime. when we finally arrive she gets some x-rays done and the doctor comes in saying all it clear (wow what a relief!!). but recently we received her hospital bill and guess what??!! insurance didn't pay a penny!!!! i called and they told me that the doctor claimed that it wasn't an emergency...do you believe that? ok...did i not just say that battery acid can be fatal? let alone with a two year old! i'm fighting my insurance with this one and i also contacted the hospital and spoke with three different people...luckily the last woman i spoke with said if she were in my situation she would have done the same thing...finally someone on my side! she also does the medical coding and told me she'd send it in again to insurance...bless her heart. so anyway i was wondering what you guys think and what you would have done in my situation. you know its crazy to think that people murder their children because they don't care and that some get away with it, but i think its beyond crazy that when someone does care about their kid...sometimes it just doesn't matter or pay in their favor in the end. sorry for the long post, i'm just a little irritated right now. thanks for listening everyone and have a great day!!!

Can anyone help with some supplies for my CNA program?
Thanks everyone for the great information! I'll try Taffords and I'll probably end up getting the stethoscope there also. Is it true that in the state of Indiana (for those of you that are in indiana) that we don't really do vitals? or did I read that wrong? I thought I read somewhere that Indiana doesn't have CNA's do vitals that often..but like I said maybe I read that wrong. Also I wonder why I need to purchase a gait belt instead of a bp cuff? sounds kinda weird.

Can anyone help with some supplies for my CNA program?
Good Evening all! Well I was wondering if I could have some input on some items I need to buy for my CNA program. I need to get two pairs of Royal blue scrubs, a stethoscope, watch, and gait belt. My questions are: 1. Does anyone know if scrubs from Taffords are any good and do they fit well? 2. Also on Taffords there is a stethoscope for 11.99 and it is called a Professional Dual Head Steth and I was wondering if anyone thinks its too cheap or if it would be good enough? So I guess those are my questions for now. If anyone can give me any input for anymore good websites or advice I'd really appreciate it! Thank you all.

Did anyone's spouses/partners etc...... have a problem with you becoming a RN?
I agree with the others. I'm not a nurse yet but I enrolled in school and my husband is finally beginning to understand that I'm not just *thinking* about it but actually DOING it! My husband is kinda weird lol because he keeps giving me mixed signals...one min he loves the idea of me pursuing my dream and then the next min he's asking me if we'll be ok. I tell him he has nothing to worry about and that I love him and he's the one I want to continue my life with and be there when my dream comes true, and he starts feeling better (until the next hour lol). I see it this way..yeah there are people out there that don't put their ALL into a relationship but that's EVERYWHERE...no matter what career you have. If it is meant to be...it will be. So good luck and I hope all of your dreams come true, and you get to share it with the ones you love!!!

To all Ivy Tech graduates..

-
To all Ivy Tech graduates..
Thank you so so much newRN09! That gives me a good estimate.
-
To all Ivy Tech graduates..
I see your a new RN, did you go to Ivy Tech? and could you give an estimate for your degree if you don't mind?
-
To all Ivy Tech graduates..
I didn't know that. I seen a few people state how much it cost them (even with student loans and grants) for their degree (again depending on what degree and what school) but I couldn't find anyone that stated how much their ASN degree from Ivy Tech. cost them after all was said and done. So I was just curious, thanks though.
