  1. Yes I agree, well said Neats. I also got a 3.3 in Microbiology at a community college and I'm about to graduate from UW in a few weeks! If you think I will sit my butt through another Microbiology class just to up my grade to a 3.6.........um, no thank you, lol. I agree that some people are just book smart and being book smart doesn't mean that you will be a good nurse. I think it's rediculous that people take classes over just so that they can get a grade that is just a few points higher. I also agree with most of what Cloyola said, although I would have put things a bit more....... elegantly.. lawlz I've always been in favor of the lottery system (minimum 3.0 gpa though like TCC does it), there's more to being a good nurse than just grades, nawmeen?
  2. Poly & Daisy keep your heads up. I know it hurts getting rejected. I've been there. I was rejected by about 3 schools and had to apply to UW twice to get in and now I graduate this year. Y'all can do it.
  3. Wow I'm surprised that some of you don't hear thank yous at all. I can't count how many times I say thank you to my nurse in a day (and vise versa).
  4. We had a Kaplan associate come speak to our class and what she said was that if you get up to 265 questions then that means you are on the brink of passing. That last question (which hopefully you got right) was probably the one that determined if you passed or not.
  5. there's a kaplan review in seattle.. also hurst review. our class is going to be having a review session sometime in june. you can try calling them to see if they have any in april.
  6. This is a problem that will be affecting many of us who are slated to be graduating this summer. I've been working at a hospital for the past 3 years as a nurses aid and even they don't have a job guaranteed for me. I have to check back sometime in May to see if they will have an opening for me. Your best bet is to just contact the HR department or nurse recruiters for each of the hospitals to get some info about them hiring new grads. It's bad up here, but certainly not as bad as it is in California. I think you will eventually be able to find a job at one of the hospitals around here if you look hard enough. I'd look from Everett/Bellevue down to as far as Olympia if I were you though.
  7. surgical units are good to work in in my opinion! i'm about to grad from nursing school here in a few months, but have been working as an aide on a surgical unit for the past 3 years. i think it's still considered "med/surg" but at my hospital we didn't have nearly as many medical patients so it wasn't as tough as a normal "med/surg" floor. so basically the surgical floor is like pre/post op patients, you know like appys, cholecystectomys, you know stuff like that. in and out in a few days. hope that makes sense! i cringe when i have to float to the regular "med/surg" floor. thats where you find a lot of the elderly patients who end up being total care - hurts the back!
  8. Yes, a 40 year old cougar. This was when I was a nurses aid and I was about 25 years old. Gave me her # and told me to call her. Sadly, I didn't, but I was very tempted!
  9. Wow I just read almost this entire thread and I don't even go to TCC. How exciting it was to hear about ILovePeople, Fiona, and StressedOut! I have no idea who you guys are, but I'm glad you guys got in! Hope you are all having fun in nursing school. I'm done in June.. WOOHOO!! lol P.S. TCC is for brainiacs.. I applied there once several years ago and got a rejection letter saying the average GPA of the accepted class was 3.94. ***!? 3.94!?!? Also in the letter it said something like maybe I should look into another field like respiratory therapy or something like that. That just ****** me off lol
