Do you know how to pronounce EVERY drug and even if you've looked up the drugs you don't know, what do you do when you're going over pt. home meds. and there's a ton of atypical meds. you are unfamiliar with and don't know how to pronounce them. (I do my best, but some I don't say perfectly and I feel really stupid when my patient corrects me.)

1.) If a pt. doesn't have a KVO order, is there a risk with shutting off an IV temporarily while keeping the line in place? I just read that a nurse got in trouble for doing this because it put the pt. at risk for losing the line. Am I missing something here? (If a pt. is getting ready to be discharged and the pump is shut off and the nurse hasn't yet got to the room to d/c it, could it be shut off for 5-10 min. instead of starting a new bag?) 2.) Can a syringe pump be infusing at the same time an IV pump is? I'm guessing no, but wanted to ask. (not too familiar with syringe pumps) just 2 questions ...not 3

Of course, Natkat. I am familiar with the reasons patients act this way. That was slightly offensive. Do you actually think I am reciprocating? I was just wondering how common it is.

I'm a nursing student and have been taking care of a male patient my age acts bashful of any health questions I ask (turns red) and also acts tad flirtaceous (thankfully nothing personal) just innocent teasing and joking around at times. He's on the cardiac floor and thankfully, I don't have to exam him in any personal areas! A girl's intuition can often tell when someone has a "crush" or whatever it is. He is not inappropriate in any way but thee is just an awkwardness at times. Any of you experience this?
