Ohio u rn-bsn questions 😊
Hi, is there a difference in tuition if I enroll in the academic outreach as opposed to the rn to bsn completion program? Also, do I need to take a math class before taking stats? I'm supposed to be starting classes in January but am having second thoughts bc my transfer credit eval is taking sooo long! Thanks so much!!!

Hi guys, just to let u know I graduated from occ in April. Within 2 weeks of getting my license I already received 2 job offers. Good luck to all of you... its unbelievable how many doors will open after u get your licenses. Occ has a really good program & hospitals are quick to hire occ grads. Btw, I am working at beaumont in the ER. Pay is 25.03 plus 2.50 more for nights & 2.00 more on weekends.

2011 grads..jobs?
Hi, I graduated last week.... not many places are hiring GN's. I have put out about 20 apps and no good news. I know about 5 people who got hired, but they already worked at that hospital. I am going to concentrate on studying for NCLEX and then I will start applying. Good luck!

Hi Mocha, the traditional program is hard enough! I would stick with the traditional program if you have a choice.

n1990, the nursing classes always show up as "closed." It is because you don't register for classes, the nursing department registers you for classes.

I'll be graduating in April. We have lost about 1/3 of our class. Don't worry too much, just focus on getting through. This program is tough... study for 30 hours for a test if you have to. Good luck to you all!

OCC's accelerated program is not a bsn. It's an associates degree just like the traditional program :)

Addison, nursing tests are not like most tests ... there are usually more than one correct response, but u have think critically and pick the best answer. Also, some teachers test on lecture and some don't, so you need to read AND listen to lecture just to cover all bases.

That's true.... I would hate to fail and have to wait until they offer the class again. And yes, Househead4life, you do have to wait until they offer the class again.

The second year is hard b/c they expect more of you and the tests are super hard. It also depends on which theory teacher you have. For m/s 2 the instructor that I had did not test on the material that she lectured on. So essentially, we had teach ourselves ortho-neuro. You need to make sure you read, read, read and also record lectures (or take good notes) . A few clinical instructors are very difficult. I know one that routinely fails 1-2 students per semester (out of 6-7). I guess it makes us stronger!

The second year is hard, as well. You have a little more time b/c you don't have lab anymore, but it is still difficult. I know a lot of students who failed med/surg 1, m/s 2 (ortho-neuro), or m/s 3 (cardiac) and many that only passed by 1-4 points. Good luck to all of you :)

Question for Current OCC ADN Students
I am in my 1st yr. I can't remember exactly how the schedule began..... 1 day of theory, 2 days of lab to start. In lab u have lots of quizzes and check-offs (you perform your skills in front of faculty, like taking blood pressures, ect). After you have some lab time under your belt (maybe about 1 month), then clinicals begin.... so then you have 2 days of clinicals, 1 day of lab and 1 day of theory. It's stressful! You are going to have to realize that while you are in school some things might get neglected (house work, ect). Good luck!

occ- gpa cutoff?
Last year they had more seats for the accelerated program (about 60, compared to 30), so that made some sort of difference. The program is very stressful... in my last nursing class at least 7 out of 25 (don't know the exact number of student in class) failed that class:( It's only going to get more competitive....

occ- gpa cutoff?
3.77 was the cut off for the program.... not the accelerated. Last year the cut off was 3.57 for the traditional route. Wow, what a difference!

Don't overload yourself ms ashley... It's not that important. Focus on A&P. Floris-" Reach for an a" is x-tra credit in 1410, its an online program.... you'll get the info when you start 1410. It is very helpful.

OCC has a great program. I like it, but it is a ton of work. Take pharm over the summer, so you don't have to take it w/ 1410 in the fall. In 1410 make sure you do "reach for an A" b-4 you take a test... this will help you learn how to answer nursing questions. I record all of the lectures. As a lab requirement we had to complete some med term quizzes (easy... you can retake the tests until you get an 80%) but you'll be way to busy to retain any of that info. I wish I would have taken medical terminology. Good luck!
