  1. I worked as a LPN from 2003 to 2008 in a residential setting and now I am a RN in a clinic for Day Hab and Love it!!!!! I am actually excited because I have been given the opportunity to take the DODD certification classes. I start April 1 2013. I feel it is just going to expand on my knowledge base. I love to learn and I feel it can only help me provide better care to my individuals!!!!
  2. drinking a coke right now!! it get"s me through the day!!!
  3. I work in Ohio and just last Sept. went to training in Cleveland Ohio to become a RN trainer. there are 3 diffrent certs unlicensed DODD staff can hold. Cert 1 is for meds and 8 authorized health care activities such as vitals, blood sugars, suctioning simple dressing change, colostomy care etc. Cert 2 is gtubes and cert 3 is insulin which we do not do!!. they have to be trained for this. cert 1 is 14 hr class min. you could check on your board od dodd for more infor regarding this. I am still learning to!!!
  4. Does anybody know if there are any traveling nurse jobs out there that hires nurses for travel assignments that are not in hospitals? Just curious, Thanks! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place! I work Med-Surg, generally 6 is the most I have had in one night but generally it is 4-5 patients! we are also a ortho-pediatric floor!!
  5. I had a dream that I went to answer a call light and when I went to enter patients room they had a clothes line with clothes hanging off of it and a cow in the room,I thought to myself wow patients really do get everything they want now days.
  6. Yes true, but I also feel the patients that are already on the floor suffer when nurses get new admissions at the beginning of the shift it is very time consuming. any suggestions for what you do when getting admission at the very beginning of your shift when you havent even been to see your other patients yet??
  7. Just out of curosity, does anyone know if there is a pump exclusively for pediatric patients? it would be nice if there was a pump that could alarm when a IV site is infiltrating.
  8. how do you go about applying for VA positions is there a website?? Thanks
  9. Yes, I am an R.N. there, just started last year, was a LPN prior to that and had worked at a diffrent place, not a hospital. I am so glad that I decided to go to work for Medcentral, I have learned so much and they give you a good orientation period. The only thing I hate is getting pulled to other floors but I guess there is not much they can do about it. That will not happen to you until after your orientation is over, like 6 weeks or so.
  10. It is so frustrating when you here crap like that a lot of the new grads that went through the BSN program that work with me at the hospital seem to be on the same level as I am, don't get me wrong they are good but so are the ADN grads.
  11. This is so crazy, haven't heard of this, just graduated and received Assoc. degree in nursing. I was a Licensed practical nurse for over 9yrs. and that's all I ever heard is that they were going to phase out L.P.N.S well funny because a lot of them still work at our local hospital and I see a few job openings for them as well as R.N. jobs. I think it is ridiculous, besides where I live the pass rate for the ADN program for the NCLEX is higher than the BSN program. Besides it shouldnt be the letters behind the name that determine how good a nurse is or if she should be given a job it should be based on how good of a nurse she is, I still say that even though I am now a R.N. there are still times I would rather have some L.P.N.S take care of me over some R.N.S
  12. I was given a patient with a chest tube on our basic med surg floor the other night , I am a new R.N. grad and really not that comfortable with chest tubes and really was none of the other nurses on my floor , because it is a rare thing. I had the policy and procedure manual on chest tubes , which I reviewed but it was not very easy to understand, can someone with more knowledge help me with this or tell me of a good website I could go to that explains it. thanks!!!!
  13. I recently started at a hospital as a new R.N. grad. and two days after coming off my six week orientation I got pulled to another floor. I heard that this happens all the time, but I do not feel that it is safe and puts that nurse in a bad position. I would be o.k. with this after working for at least six months or so but not two days after coming off orientation. Nurses are not allowed to apply for another position on another floor until after six months so how is it fair for them to be able to pull you?? There are plenty of other nurses that have more hospital exp. that they could pull if short on another floor not a new one. would like suggestions/opinions please thanks!!!
  14. I know exactly what you mean, I recently started a new job and left my other one where everyone for the most part was so nice and like family then at this job for the most part everyone is nice but there is one nurse that I do not care for, she is very gruff and when I see her on the schedule for the same night that I work, I really do not look forward to going and it should not be that way!! and I hate the clicks that people get in!! whats up with that!!!
