  1. I am a new grad np who has taken a job with a small to medium size hospital whose hospitalist program has two mds and two nps on days and one md and one np on nights. I was hired for full time days and they would prefer I work 7 on 7 off 10a-10p.... I am just not sure that schedule will fit with my family's schedule (mom of four with husband who owns small business). So, I was wondering if anyone on here works with a hospitalist program that doesn't do 7 on 7 off? It seems to be the norm for these programs but I am searching desperately for an alternative solution. Thanks!
  2. I am also interested to know more about the test. I am scheduled to take it soon and I have not been able to find out much about it. Based on the low first time pass rate I am feeling very nervous.
  3. OP.... I see what you are saying in that we are not in this position just for the money.... But I just graduated with my BSN and when you are looking at thousands of dollars in student loans and you are only making 18-22 dollars an hour it is frustrating. Then you add in the fact that you feel like you have a job that two people should share.... IMO nurses should get paid more... I think this should be based on evals, continuing edu, attendence, etc.
  4. http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/repayment/nursing/ this is the correct NELRP website
  5. I say stick it out... in my area ICUs are very difficult to get into as a new grad RN. I think that you should respect your preceptor, but you should also remember that everyone is different... Maybe she had been a tech before she became an RN or maybe she just picked up on things quickly. Whatever the case may be, I think you should hang in there, because when you FINALLY get it you will be so proud of yourself!! Good luck!!
  6. I guess it just depends on how quickly you need to find work. If you are not in any hurry then I would hold off until you found something at a hospital that you prefer... but with the tight job market right now, if you are concerned about waiting, possibly months, then I would take this job. Also, listen to what your instincts are telling you, they will normally lead you down the right path. Good luck with your decision!
  7. Got my results yesterday and I passed!! I loved Hurst review.... obviously it doesnt take the place of studying... hard... for 2 years... but it was a wonderful review prior to NCLEX!!
  8. I took my NCLEX today, finished with 75 questions and I got the good popup... I have not got my official results yet.... but I studied with the Hurst Review videos and I think that they were the perfect review and Marlene kept me calm and gave me confidence in what I already knew. Hurst review is great to help you organize everything in your mind! Good luck!
  9. I had a friend who checked hers 2.5 hours after and it worked. Good luck!!!
  10. Well, I thought I would give my two cents considering I am also a new grad. There are a TON of things that I ask questions about, but these statements from your new grad sound like she is a little immature/insecure (turning off HEPARIN because the patient said it was done??) I will be the first to admit that I googled, "Can Tylenol be given intravenously" lol... but if you were to give me a pill form of Tylenol there would be no doubt that it needed to be given PO. It sounds like you take your job of orienting students very seriously and I am sure that you care about this person... but in my (very little experience) you have to put the patients first. I think that with your previous experience orienting, your NM should take your advice and think twice about this new employee... maybe she could have a longer orientation?? I know that if at the end of my orientation if I or my nurse does not feel that I am ready then we can lengthen my orientation time. Good luck and thank you for taking your "orientation" so seriously!!!!
  11. Just to give everyone that has the good pop-up.... I just had a friend that it worked for also! I dont test until next Tuesday so I am hoping that I get the same results. Good luck to everyone!!
  12. Thank you for your responses... I love this board, it is so nice to be able to bounce ideas off of so many nurses with so many different experiences! I am going to contact the NM on the Neuro PCU Monday and let her know that I have made my decision. Along with your comments, I felt the Neuro PCU was a better fit for me during my interview. Thanks! Amy
  13. Hello all, I welcome advice from someone who has knowledge in this matter. First of all my long term goal is to become a CRNA. Background, I precepted in neuro icu, since they have no job openings, I have applied to the neuro pcu and a perioperative program. I have been offered the job on neuro pcu and I interview tomorrow with perioperative. The perioperative program is 6 months of paid training plus a two yer contract with the hospital. My concern is I may not get the critical care experience that most CRNA schools require. So... Should I take neuro pcu in hopes of moving to NI in the near future or should I take the perioperative program (if they offer it to me). Is perioperative in any way considered critical care? Thanks, Amy

If it is your first HESI then I am thinking it is your fundamentals HESI?? If so... just think no matter what the question think safety safety safety. What is going to keep your patient safe, what will kill, them the fastest, etc.
  15. I would brush up on diet/nutrition and anatomy and physiology.
  16. i begin my last semester of nursing school in january, and i just found out that i will be in the nicu for my preceptorship. i am very excited, but i am also nervous. i was wondering if anyone has any advice on starting out in the nicu, things to be aware of, tips, warnings, ect. i would also love to hear any stories about your work in the nicu, most common patients, most common medications, ect... any information you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. i am determined to work hard and learn as much as possible my last semester. thanks, amy b
  17. I am also a transfer student from Calhoun. That is strange that we have different dates? My two options were April 24 or may 1.
  18. Nursetobe2... I am also starting at UAH in the fall. Which orientation are you going to? I am going to the one this Friday.

  21. They have just approved a new hospital in the madison alabama area. They are estimating 2-3 years, and the hiring of 400-500 nurses.
  22. Hi, I myself was wondering this question, because this summer I have to take A & P 2 and Micro together. So I asked my A & P teacher and she said that it would be good to take those two together.... but that A & P 1 was the harder of the two A & P classes. Good Luck!
  23. I talked to my A & P teacher today to see what she thought about taking A & P 2 and Micro together and she thought it was a great idea. She said A & P 1 is the harder of the two and working with them together would be fine. So I feel better about my course load for this summer.
  24. Would working in a doctors office be any better? Having set hours?
