  1. There's been a couple of students (in the WGU discussion boards) who've said they've finished WGU's RN-to-BSN program in 3 months. WGU students pay a set tuition rate ($3,250) per term (composed of 6 months) no matter how many competency units they take. If students finish in 3 months, then they pay the $3,250. I don't know another university that compares. I guess this depends on how motivated you are to finish the competency units. The competency units are pass/fail, and students earn a 3.0 GPA when they graduate.
  2. Anyone finish WGU's MSN program in 6 months yet?
  3. Thanks for bringing this school to the forefront! There are full-time professionals at this school with support from their employers: Military, Federal Government, and local hospitals. http://www.americansentinel.edu/blog/2011/05/11/nurse-manager-applies-informatics-course-work-to-improve-his-hospital/ http://www.americansentinel.edu/blog/2011/05/04/nurse-reaches-lifelong-goal-finds-personal-fulfillment-in-bsn/
  4. Thank you all for bringing this school to the forefront! After reading your posts, I'm seriously considering it now!
  5. Thanks, Robynheart716 There's some info from these posts about that program: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/lowdown-wgus-online-524424.html https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/wgu-online-programs-254937-page2.html#post4770877 Are the mentors encouraging towards students to finish competency units during the 6-month time frame? Can we choose our mentors? (I would assume if students pay $3,250 for 6 months, we could choose our mentors.)
  6. Congrats, Dottimur! Which MSN specialty are you in?
  7. Information about OU's MSN programs can be found here: http://www.nursing.ouhsc.edu/Academic_Programs/Graduate/nurse_practitioner_apply.htm OU's College of Nursing had an information session in December 2009. You can view the session to get more information about the admissions process, etc. http://tvs-media-ex.ouhsc.edu/mediasite/Viewer/?peid=fed7f3f90b8e4dab8e678121865347a9
  8. Hi Tkrn714, Is a preceptor required for any of the competency-based units? Are practicum hours required for any of the units? Has anyone graduated from WGU's MSN program yet?
  9. Hi Tkrn714, How is WGU's MSN program since you started last August 2009? What specialty are you in?

  12. Hi Meg Thanks so much for your response! Communicating with a graduate student does help in deciding whether to continue graduate education and which school to choose. What caught your attention about WGU?
  13. Hi Meg Are there practicum hours for the program? What is required for the final project (such as facility agreement, preceptor, and mentor approval)?
  14. In searching for information about WGU's MSN program, I came across a more detailed thread about WGU in the "Distance Learning for Nursing" forum under the thread entitled, "WGU online programs." You can find more about the school here: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/wgu-online-programs-254937.html
  15. Hi Meg, Is there a main person to talk to about specific MSN program completion questions (such as clinical hours, etc.)? Has anyone finished the entire MSN program at WGU yet?
  16. Hi Jan, Who do prospective students contact about the MSN program completion requirements (e.g. clinical hours, preceptorship, etc.) besides the enrollment counselors?
  17. Who can we talk to about the MSN program at WGU (besides the enrollment counselors)? Can we talk to current MSN students or MSN graduates before applying?
  18. WGU is CCNE accredited. It is in New Applicant Status. You can check it out here: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne/reports/rptNewApplicants.asp?sort=state#UT
  19. Any Western Governors University (WGU) graduates from the MSN program? Has anyone actually completed the program? Anyone willing to share their experiences about completing WGU's MSN program to a prospective student?
  20. I know a good number of BSNs who have enrolled in an online NP program, and were NOT able to get a clinical site and preceptor. No NP in their location was willing to agree to be their preceptor. The online program did little to assist them in finding a preceptor or clinical site. In some cases, the school told them that they should have made plans with a preceptor or clinical site before enrolling in their online NP program. Some of them switched degree programs and just could not continue with pursuing their MSN in adult NP. A few of those BSNs, who could not find a clinical site and preceptor in their location, ended up traveling to another city to be precepted by an NP willing to take them on. It was financially tough for them because they had to live in a hotel, and attend clinicals in order to get the 500 supervised clinical hours. Its a great idea that you're looking for clinical sites and preceptors to take you as a student before enrolling in an online NP program.
