  1. Hey Rook...I see you work at Sinai...I have an interview there on Monday for a RN position in Labor & Delivery.....I am really nervous, this is my first "RN" interview. I graduate in May with my BSN and I currently work at UMMC in the L&D as a student nurse and at Sinai in the mother/baby unit as a special assistant. Any tips? Should I bring a recommendation letter to the interview from a coworker at UMMC...Im not sure what to expect!
  2. are you talking about active or reserves? also i was told its really hard to get a job at va hospitals if you are not in the military.
  3. hey soror!!! chi [color=yellow]eta phi [color=yellow]sorority inc. ~gamma [color=yellow]alpha beta [color=yellow]chapter~ [color=#ffff00]
  4. no i dont have perkins loans
  5. Yeah B...we ready to roll....
  6. I agree with Jules, give it some time. When I first started the program I stayed to myself with no intention to get a personal friend out of any of the students. I was there for one reason only ...so I thought!!!!! But as I progressed in the program I noticed that in nursing you need teamwork...the same applies to nursing school...you all will grow closer as the road gets tough! As far as really "close friends"or "Best friends" I have made one...its a funny story to me now. She is our class V President and she would always invite me to come to her study group...everytime I would make up any excuse and never go. One day she asked me and I finally said sure :-) I never thought the days we spent studying at the library would turn into all the things it has...now she is my "big sister". We have had the closest relationship possible for two years...it feels like 10!! :loveya:
  7. Well it depends on what type of benefits/ reputation you are looking for from the hospital...me personally, I need help paying back my loans so I have checked out the two hospitals that I know will help me with that: 1. MD general hospital will pay 10,000 back in loans for 2 years there. also a 5,000 sign on bonus ( at 6 months you get $1500, at 1 year $1500, at 2 years $2000) 2 Mercy Student Loan Repayment : Up to $3000/year paid directly to the lending institution at completion of one year of employment and continues to be paid to the lender at the end of each additional year of employment so those are two of my considerations!!! Also You have UMMC, they have a new grad packet with a few pluses as well (sign on bonus, pay for kaplan)!
  8. When i get my first pay check I plan on doing a few things. 1st save the stub in my scrapbook 2nd actually put 10% aside to start my 10% saving plan 3rd go to the hair salon and mall 4th Give a token of love to my church and family who have supported me for the years and 5th take 20% to put aside for my loan repayment With all this being said last but NOT least I will be thanking GOD for the blessing he has placed before me. To finally be able to get a pay check thats more than $700 will be a reward itself. These long hard working years of nursing school only being able to work 12-16 hrs a week still having to pay car payment, rent, utilities and etc... will finally be over!!!
  9. today my school gave our senior class the ati predictor to tell how well we will do on the first attempt of taking the nclex. then in march we have to take the ati exit exam. do you think the predictor is reliable as far as guiding your studying? also should i be planning on taking kaplan over the winter break to do well on the ati exit exam? (scored 88% chance of passing nclex 1st time)
  10. I took up nursing simply because I had a very sick childhood (up to age 17). as a kid being asked, "what do you want to be when you grow up" the only thing I knew about outside from school was the hospital. if nothing else I felt at home when I was there...simply because it was so frequent. I was not able to be in the band, play sports, or be apart of clubs due to my illness. so by the time I reached middle school I started thinking I wanted to become a doctor, to give back to the world what was given to me. by high school I realized that my aunt was a crnp who specialized in women's health. I looked up to her as a mentor to get where I am today.
  11. Im very excited to know that this challenging program can be completed...I have finished psych & critical care is over for me next week . Now I have to focus on passing the ATI exit exam in March!! I am starting to see the light too!!
  12. Yeah our faculty provided our class with a list of ATI practice codes as well...
  13. Yea I can relate...it seems that all of my "old" friends are in other majors that require less time to be successful. So when they call me with all these plans to go places I have to turn them down. Mainly, because I have no free time on my hands and secondly because Im so broke! They usually reply with "Dang all you do is study"! Of course I too feel left out because these have been my friends for years and they are truly precious to me, it's just that I have to prioritize...and school comes first! On the bright side I will say that being in nursing school allows you to build some incredible friendships with your nursing classmates. So now my days are spent with "new" friends who totally understand everything I am going thru. We spend HOURS together from studying, eating, being on campus, on the phone, praying, working long nights on the weekends, web surfing, and having a drink when time allows. I have been fortunate enough to meet my only "big sis" in nursing school. So yeah I miss the "old" ones, and we do hook up every now and then..but I wouldnt trade my "sis" for the world. We have survived the battles of nursing school together...and that's the greatest:redpinkhe
