  1. What is the shortage occupatio n list?
  2. I live in Canada and we have good schooling here, I wrote the nclex and failed the first time as so did more then 6 people I know! I wrote it the 2nd time and Passed! My advice while your waiting for your ATT study a couple hrs every day. This test finds your weakness and you cant go in thinking you don't really need to study its not like any other exam. I have been working almost 2 years as an RN, and this exam truthfully is not at entrance level. I bought the Saunders book and spent a month reading and understanding the material because really my anatomy course was in first year of university. The 2nd month I spent practicing questions and reading why the answers were wrong or right. I used kaplan, saunders and mosby for practice questions. good luck!
  3. Hello Everyone! I have been working for 2 years, 1 year oncology /medicine and 1 year cardiology/telemetry/medicine. I wrote my NCLEX to travel nurse in the USA but unfort. when I apply to a variety of agencies they tell me if I want to stay in cardiology specialty I need to have more then 2 years of experience due to the economy right now! I am so eager to travel right now! I was considering overseas to the UK. Can anyone give me some advice? Is there a hiring freeze there too? Its hard to get a job in Canada too right now, I want to move to a larger city to a more specialized unit but no one is hiring! Its crazy! I thought nurses would always be in DEMAND!!! I know you have to pass an english test before going through all the requirements to nurse in the UK. But is there a point to pay for all these requirements if I cant even get a job! The NCLEX wasn't cheap and it was so time consuming and now I cant even use it!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!! Leanne
  4. Hello! So I passed my exam! I am trying to apply for different agencies. I have a year experience but for 6 months I worked on Oncology/Medical now I'm in cardiac care. Since I changed areas, I need a full year in cardiac care. Its hard to find out what travel agency is reliable. They say its slow right now for jobs and its competitive. Have you figured out anything yet!
  5. omg lol i just checked to and it says pass!!!! congrats!!! :)
  6. I wrote the exam thursday at 730 am may 14th. it was minnesota so i get quick results. I'll let you know on monday if i pass or fail. I so hope its a pass. I never studied like this in school its so disapointing
  7. Hey I had the exact same thing as you! I wrote today, I had tons of SATA and Math questions !!! I heard SATA mean your doing well on the exam and then math questions mean your doing bad! I had tons of infection control to with prioritization! I studied like crazy and everything I studied was not asked, this was my second time taking it! Good luck finding out
  8. This is exactly what I am doing, I tend to study for 5 hrs but i have to take thousands of breaks I'm not the type that can just sit down and study 200 questions in an hr. Iv been doing saunders for the past month and i'm starting to memorize the answers, so i'm using KAPLAN but I live in canada so its an old book 2005-1006 there is no other study guides unless i order something but i write may 14th. I'm starting to become stressed out. I failed once before and my 2 other friends failed. Im already nurse here in Canada, and I feel so sorry for the americans who need this to work, its so hard! I wanted to buy more kaplan study guides but its so expensive, but then again so is paying $300.00 everytime to write. I'm starting to feel dumb the more i study. The more I don't know. When I work in the real world, I def use more critical thinking then when I study!!!!
  9. I failed and I was getting 70-80% on Saunders. I was also really tired for my exam and wasn't prepared mentally. But I have two friends who wrote the exam and they are good test takers and they also failed. I wrote 145 and they both wrote the whole exam. If it helps we are from Canada, I write in 2 weeks, and I'm using a variety of books and so far the KAPLAN questions I am doing horrible. Iv also been nursing for a year I graduated last year and have never failed anything in my life. I'm so nervous. I would recommend using a variety of sources saunders seams easier in my opinion. There is so much to know!
  10. Hey I actually use to use a PDA and if you go to the website *Skyscape?* you can log in and find your history / receipt with serial number . I hope that can help you
  11. HEy! actually no i failed the exam. I studied lots of questions for about 2 months every day. the Day before the exam came and I freaked, I downloaded a bunch of hard questions from these websites and I had to drive 4 hours to duluth minnesota to write it, and I didn't relax, I went to bed late I could not sleep up all night, finally the clock said 3 am. i woke up early at 6 tried to have a good breakfast, then I went there for 630 I didn't even have to be at the exam place till 730, I studied some lab values the night before.. Not sure why I felt the needed to cram, I have never studied so much for an exam ever until this one. So as I was writing the exam, I was like oh my god, I need to finish this and go to sleep, I didn't even read the questions until I was passed 75 and i'm like ohh no what did i do, then i started getting the same similar questions twice around, it stopped at 152. I failed. But I rebooked for May 11th. MY Biggest advice Sleep and relax at least 2 days. So As for recruiters, I havnt looked yet I need to pass first, then i'll apply for a visa. Iv looked into a couple but my other friend failed the nclex too. I feel like this exam is a lost cause. I have even been working for a year. Good luck to you and message this forum and tell me how you did ! :)
  12. I look up to male nureses. They have such a different approach which is great. I actually hear some nureses complain male nureses are lazy. but these nureses complain about everyone! Thank goodness its a job that both parties can enjoy now adays!
  13. Congrats! I'm happy to read the posting's where people say they passed with more than 75 questions! releives a lot of stress!!
  14. Hello I have a question. Iv been reading numerous posts. I am from canada and in school we had maybe a class approx 2 hrs that briefly mention Cardiac ECG strips.. whil I am studying I had a couple questions asking what the results are on the example strips shown. In Ontario anyways, if you work in Emerge ICU or Cardiology, you recieve an additional training to read these strips? How do I learn to read it, I write my nclex in 2 months. Anyone else from canadian university that wrote the NCLEX and found random information different??? thanks
  15. Congrats! Thank you for posting your story! I just signed up with this forum, but I'm a Canadian nurse and I am nervous because I am not sure how different the education taught is.... Congrats!!!! Thank you
  16. I also have been reading posts regarding working in Ontario Canada. I currently work in Ontario Canada. As a new grad I recieved the new grad initiative full time. Its a contract job of 3 months to 7 1/2 guarantted full time hours with a mentorship. Great! But now.. I'm almost up, they say they are short of nurses but in Ontario, Its really hard to find a job in any field. I paid tuition in a Canadian School. I went for 4 years. It was expensive. I lived in Canada my whole life and love it here. I also want to experience life and experience living in different areas of the world. I don't think anyone should be shot down for that. In Ontario we have to pay lots of tax.. and you just have to live with it. I mean we get free health care which is wonderful. And I think a great opportunity is to work in the states and experience the way the health care system is ran there! Out west in Canada, is booming. In calgary you can shop for you job. They will help you with accomodations ect. The people are amazing. A very friendly city! I completed a placement out there! Oncology stem cell transplant. Amazing amazing floor! I recommend it!
  17. I currently am studying for my NCLEX. I am a registered nures in canada. I am interested in working as a travel nurse across America. Does anyone have any suggestions. What to look for when picking an agency, do I work for a hospital or an agency? Just any advice :) Thanks
  18. Hello, I passed my RN exam CRNE in June. About 11 people failed from my school. I want to recommend you go to Canadian Nurses Association and buy the CRNE (Canadian registered nurse exam preg guide book there approx 97$ or a book store for cheaper because of shipping and handling. Complete the practice test online which was about 40$. Well worth it. Personal oppionion Complete that exam prepguide before going to MOSBY. Mosby is more facts but its not helpful for the CNRE as this exam is about therapeutic responses, inital responses (not so much on patho and anatomy) I had some questions on MI and ABG's but seriously mostly WHat would I say to a patient ect.
  19. I recently wrote my CRNE exam in JUNE 08 and passed. Use the CRNE to practice and practice test online. I applied to write the NCLEX and its a long process. I live close to Duluth Minnesota so I registered with Minnesota board of nursing, paid $125.00USD, confirmed my lisensure with CNO, confirmed my education was completed through my school. Registered with Pearson vue $200.00 USD. They sent me my ATT, I am writing January 7th. Find out the state you will be writing, and find the application form with them. Pearson vue website will help as well. I advise you study for Canadian and NCLEX separate. Very different. Candian is therapeutic responses to patients, not so much clinical information. *anyone could pass or fail this exam* While studying for the nclex you actually need to know your stuff
  20. Use the Canadian Nurses Association Study Guide. Also complete the practice exam online. I passed my exam this June. I studied using Mosby and other tools, not helpful. The exam is very different from NCLEX, you don't need to know lots of patho type questions. Just figure out how to answer questions. Ex. lots of questions like "what would you initally do, the best thing to do, most therapeutic response" need to look at the question carefully
  21. I am currently working on an oncology unit, and when receiving oncology training they said the radiation one recieves orally (usually the patients in the secured rooms for a couple days that are radioactive) are equivalent to standing outside under the sun even yet you recieve more radiation exposure on an airplane
  22. Hi my names Leanne! I am from canada. I completed a nursing degree at Lakehead University. I registered with Minnesota board of nursing and I am writing my nclex on January 7th. I am nervous because the Canadian Exam is very very different. The Nclex is alot harder. I'm worried that the education is much different, and already I realized that in the states the Metric system isn't used. Currently I am using lippincotts Nclex review on my PDA is a computer format. I also downloaded a CD version of KEPLAN study guide. I recently just bought flashcards from some website. I cant afford to pay for a class, due to the fact I just recently graduated from Canada and had to pay to write that exam and register with my province. Does anyone have any advice. I see lots of people are using Suzzanes plan? How is that helping? It states you have to post 15 posts first, and have more than 45 days prior to your exam. Well I write in 2 months... is this enough time??? Thank you so much!
