Should I retake Chemistry?
I don't understand that, since many nursing programs will not take certain classes more than 5 yrs old ie anatomy, micro. , so I can't imagine why retaking a course would hurt a person.

Should I retake Chemistry?
The school where I'm at doesn't even require chemistry. Why don't you apply and see if they accept you first. Then you know you won't have to retake it. If you get rejected, then retake it. This is the path I would take.

Missed a call for an on-call shift
If I'm not mistaken the poster was talking about come them calling her to actually in to work, not asking a question as you've stated. I got nowhere in her post where she said they were calling to ask a question. Where did you get that from? I think the poster may be just tired and wants to spend time with her kids. Remember, this is the same poster who was complaining in another post about not having money and looking for another job, then she said she found another job but did not pick up her phone when they called her, and she's new at this job. I'm a hard sleeper, but I usually sleep with my cell next to me so when it goes off I can still wake up. She may have had her ringer turned off.

Missed a call for an on-call shift
It may be a ridiculous statement to you. However, look around yourself. It is not all far-fetched. Why do you think nurses get burned out? Doctors and patients sometimes do expect nurses to go above and beyond. And obviously they expect you to be on call 24/7 if the OP said the clerics call at weird times and her blackberry goes off quite often. So which is it? I'm sure those clerics and her coworkers can sense she's iffy about coming in that's why they haven't approached her or pressed her for her phone number. People are alot smarter than we give them credit for. They can tell when someone doesn't want to be called or come in. It doesn't take long to single those people out. They may be calling her just for that reason too cuz they know she doesn't want to be bothered and trying to put her in a compromising position. That's why philosophy at work is to always look out for yourself. People play games like that at work too.

Question on lab. Test
Not necessarily. Being tired, no energy and weight gain could easily signal the person is consuming too much junk food, have high blood pressure, elevated cardio crp and a host of other things related to diet and exercise. The person is probably too sedentary and needs to change their diet. That usually helps. If the doc suspected Lupus he may have ordere other tests, don't you think?

why do doctors order more vitamin d tests than anything?
No, they are not doing any research that I know of on vitamin D. I just see the test more than anything. If I had to guess on my own the most common tests perform, I would say some std. But it is vitamin d. I see it so much that I get tired of ordering it. I was curious about it all.

Question on lab. Test
Maybe he's checking for bacterial infection or something. Maybe he's checking cortisol too. I like to go to this site called labtestsonline. It's extremely helpful.

The world can seem very dark at 3 a.m.
Men never came across to me as nurturers. This may be why your bros have not come to the rescue. I'd say if mom took care of you when you were young, then you won't have any other choice than to care for her or look for a living facility. I think your father is too old anyway to care for her.

Missed a call for an on-call shift
It sounds to me like you really don't want to be bothered after a certain time, but hate to admit it. You say your phone acted up before, and yet you let it go on. Then you say you haven't given the clerics your home number because they call at funny times. You are going to have to break down and give away that home phone number, or else you will be explaining away in the future about why your blackberry keeps conking out. I think that is part of being a nurse, being on call 24 hours a day with or without sleep.

Not sure how I'm going to survive
How much do you make on your nursing job? I thought you started out nursing with $55k a year at most places.

why do doctors order more vitamin d tests than anything?
I work in a blood systems lab. They process lots of lavenders, tiger tops, frozens, etc. I see many chain of custodies daily and more than about 60% have where the doc. ordered vitamin d, d3, d 25 and d 125. I was curious as to why. They order more of those tests almost than CBC's.

Why does Sonography pay more than nursing?
Maybe because teachers salaries are state regulated and we all know the state government can be cheap. Movie stars make more money because the movies they star in are paid for by people like you and I which number in the millions, so they get a cut off of that. If you star in a movie and 5 million people go see it at $8 a ticket that is a $40,000,000 rack in for that one movie. Being the star, you had a lot to do with why 5 mil people went to see it, because you were bankable, famous and the film was good. So with that kind of money, I can see why stars make that much. Even if you made just 1% (which is low) you would still take home $400,000 and that is just when the movie is at the show. What about all the extra money you make from it being rented on videos and cd's. Usually stars have a contractual agreement before they even do a pic. anyway. Plus they get free stuff because they are celebrities whom people worship and adore.

"...Nurses are Doctors SKIVVIES"
You've got to develop thicker skin than that if you are to make in nursing. Just from talking to nurses on this board I can see where the real stress comes from in nursing: it's not doctors, not the hours, workload, pay, none of that. The real stress may come in nursing for anyone is dealing with other female nurses. Some of them come across difficult and extremely critical without analyzing their own faults. But back to the issue at hand, I woudn't worry about what someone said on the skivvie thing. Sometimes people say things they think might sound funny, but ends up angering someone else.

I'm trying nursing, but I'm hardheaded..will I last?
Ma'am You have it all wrong. I did not set out to attack you. I just wanted to talk civilly. I wasn't getting civil responses. I'm getting alot of Group Think sarcastic responses, where several of you on here are just repeating what the other has said to me without any real insight. Now, I do like to ask alot of questions. Sorry for that. I thought I could come here and learn some things since I was looking into nursing as a field.

- Should I finish RN program at age 51?
She is probably speaking about age discrimination, which does exist in the workplace big time. She may be wondering if it is worth the extra time put in if she's going to be passed over continously for younger people in interviews. Please don't tell me age discrimination is dead when I know it is not. - Should I finish RN program at age 51?
