Unfortunately, something like that happened to me at my first job. They said I asked too many questions and too many different people. On my end, I did that to validate the info when I did not think that the answer was right/complete. Needless to say, I left the job after 1.5 years. There were many rumors too and they did not seem to believe me over older nurses. So, hang in there at least for a year. Mentor is a good thing. Use this opportunity to learn! Good luck! P.S. At my next job they thought I was a great nurse. All depends on the people you work with.

I think you will be fine. I was also offered a position and am scheduled to have my physical next week. As far as i remember from my old RN job, they check if your vision is ok, if you can bend, lift you arms, regular ROM stuff. Once again, shouldn't be an issue for either of us ( I didn't tell them I was pregnant neither, why take the chance of discrimination when you really need a job and can do it?).

I would say that the reason for FNP program is that you want to assist your staff in every possible way including sorting through some difficult clinical issues. Hope, everything will work out. And I would also pray.

Hey, The job market is very tough in Philly. I have 3 years of experience and has been searching for a job for a year ( currently doing home care). Nothing yet. Honestly, I would work in NYC , if I could. You can also consider Baltimore, etc. Taking a train back and forth will be very taxing on anyone. Just my opinion. I wish you well. hey, I was almost in the same situation as you are except that I had experienced uncontrollable sweating under both armpits. THE ONLY thing that worked for me is Hypercare 20 % solution that was prescribed by my doc. In fact, after I use it for about a month, I can do without it for several weeks. I haven't tried Botox, though. Good luck. May it be the worst problem ever in your life.

Hi, In a home care setting I was giving to take care of someone else's pt. The nurse was giving him SQ injection of B12 30-60 min prior to him going to hemodialysis. Could it be wrong? Does anyone know B12 clearance rate during the hemodyalisis TM? Thanks a lot. Just trying to do the right thing for the pt.

Well, I worked at the Children's Hospital and our night shift ratio was 6 patients per nurse. That was manageable, really not too bad. Whoever did the assignment always tried to take into the account the acuity. My friend, who is also a nurse, works nights at an adult unit (Stroke). She takes 8 patients and often complains about how difficult it is and that she doesn't havea minute to sit and rest. I personally do think that 8 is too many to enjoy one's job.

sorry guys, I am not a lawyer but I can't imagine you being disqualified for being pregnant, that is illegal! I don't think there is any light duty in the unit you described. However, when I was pregnant I had some minor bleeding issues and I begged my OB for a note that I have to stay on bedrest from 36 weeks on. He gave it to me, and everything went great. I left the job after I delivered and went to Home Health. That was a mistake especially for the economy like now. Now I want to get back to the hospital, and no one wants me Congrats on your pregnancies!

Congratulations on getting all those interviews, you must be very special! Make sure you send all your thank you notes. Write something special about each unit: comment on the professionalism of staff you observed , staff's experience and positive attitude toward you, how they made you feel welcome, how the level of floor's acuity is exactly what you need to develop you critical thinking skills and motor skills, etc. It you are not interested in the position, send a thank you note , noting that although the position is great , you have decided not to pursue it for a so and so real. If it is still not clear, go to STICKY "Wondering why you can't get a job...", then go to the University of Pennsylvania's web-site, they have some good advice on how to write thank you notes.

Thanks to all. Karen, I actually came across the post you are referring to when I got home from the interview . It will surely help me the next time. I did send a thank you note to the NRec and the manager. I think, I will try to call the manager on Monday to see if there is anything else that can help me to get a position. As for my experience, I worked Surgical/Trauma unit at Peds hospital for 1 1/2 years and then home care, geriatrics primarily, for another 1 1/2 years.

I had three interviews for ICU position ( two a year ago and one just this Tuesday) and I keep flunking them. This interview was different though. I got a call from the HR to come and interview for the next day. So, I really felt like I had no time to really prepare and the job was so important to me ( because it is a great place and close to my home). When I came in I felt like everything was going well with the nurse recruiter and the manager. Then, the manager set me up with three nurses from the unit for a peer interview. That was a disaster, the looks on their faces completely through me off. I felt like I couldn't connect with them, became very nervous and answered questions poorly. Overall, I know that I am intelligent ( graduated first in my class ) and do fine with any job challenge. But how come I can't convey it to the managers? The nurse manager gave me her card and she wrote there her cell phone #. Would it be justified to call and ask if she has made a decision ( she probably did and it is not me) and to comment on my interviewing skills? I don't want to annoy her but I don't know what else to do! Thanks Sorry for the long post. How much weight those peer interviews have?

well, don't even get me started on this topic. CNA's at my previous job were horrible. They rarely got accomplished anything but VS. Most of the time, I did the bath, bad and other little things that were supposed to be done by them. I am in my 20's, they are so much older and have no respect for anyone including patients. Now I work for a home care agency and like it much better, because there is no way I'll be doing a bath that a CNA suppose to do. With home care, you are too expensive to do that stuff.

wait.... do you STAND on your feet while the case is in process? What if it is very long 5-6 hrs? that must be tougher than waking P.S. I was witnessing surgery a couple of times but right now I can't remember if a CRNA was sitting or standing... I think sitting.

Is there are such a thing as calculating total exposure to fluoro to make sure one is safe (don't get me wrong, you helped me understandthat the OR environment is safe to work at while being pregnant). I guess, I am a little absessed c my fear for fluoro :)

Hi everyone, I have a question for ladies and gentleman if they choose to participate :). What are the risks that are associated with workplace: gases, X-rays, etc. ( you know better) that may place CRNA's pregnancy in danger... I mean, if I am a CRNA and I become pregnant , will I be at higher risk for birth defects working as a CRNA b/o surgeons doing x-rays all day? Do you know any CRNA's who had their children while working? i would greatly appreciate any responce. You would help me a lot!

yeap, I accepted the position and worked there for a little less than 2 years. I heard from many nurses on my floor that they had difficult time c recruiter, i.e. they won't return calls, change recruiters on you etc. In fact, I had somewhat difficult time with them , too. When I had my interview , I received a call saying that I was offered the position and the date of my orientation. When, I showed up on the orientation they did not have me on the list! Neither did they sent me a contract to sign! This was resolved eventually. See my other posting for more description . Any questions, feel free to PM me.
