  1. it used to be great but the hospital recently went to staffing based on numbers and not acuity, which is terrible because the hospital see very sick patients. Many nurses that worked there for years, have left Piedmont.
  2. it will be a huge isse with the BON. You have to have at least 1 year of experience to endorse in with excelsior.
  3. I do agree with that! and the BON told me about the hospital in macon!
  4. I worked while I did my preceptorship. I was given my rn license 5 days after my paperwork was recieved.
  5. I finished my preceptorship in three months and that was working 6 days a week! I had to do 500 hours becuase I am a RT. It can be done but it is stressful. I did my precptorship in macon and the medical center.
  6. I dont work at the hospital in Macon. I paid to do my internship there.
  7. I aslo am a RT and had to do 50 hours. I did 200 med surg at a facility that I work at prn and I did my psych at my fulltime job which is GA regional. I did my peds and obgyn at Medical center of central Ga in Macon. I had to pay 200 dollars for the hours. They are taking students that need the hours and they have to pay 500 dollars. I got this information form the BON. Just let me warn you the lady over the process is not organized at all. You have to constantly remind her to send the paperwork to the BON and then make sure she sets up your hours.
  8. according to the board you can still be required to do the preceptorship. I am a RT and I had to do 500 hours of clinical. I will be finifshed this week.
  9. I spoke with Sherry Haizlip. She said there would be a feee but hasnt told me exactly what it would be. I only have to do peds and obgyn there. I did med surg and psych at other facilities
  10. I had no trouble setting up my preceptorship. Try medical center of central ga in macon and ga regional for your psych.
  11. I believe that they are going to make all students do the precptorship.
  12. That statement was for RT students who are now excluded in the law.
  13. I started my preceptorship the beginning of august. I am doing at dekalb medical and ga regional. I work at both facilities. And I am going to middle ga medical center for my peds and obgyn. Call Gwen Dobson at the boardand she if she knows of any facilities. I am a RT and I have to do 500 hours.
  14. you can only get the clinical hours if your application was at the board before they changed the law. If did not you will have to work out of state for a year.
  15. I am a RRT who went through excelsior college and graduated. I thought in jan when the board said that they woould license excelsior gradsby waiver my ordeal was over. My waiver was denied twice. First for lack of clinical experience and then because I had no clinical experiece as a rn. They denied me the second time based on the way they interpreted the endorsement rule! I was told to licensure I would have to complete 500 hour clinical intership (unpaid)! Today I talked with the boards nurse and talked about the endorsement law and was told my waiver was denied because of no rn experience so I stated to her that the rules said 3 months expeerience as a RN or graduated from a nursing program in the last for years. She then tells me I have to go by the law and not the rules! So I hung up the phone with her and then proceeded to look up the law and to my surprise the rule is the same as the law! ***! How can anyone get a fair chance in Ga if the board and their attorney ( who works for the attorney general of the state) wont go by the damn laws of the state! Just had to vent! I feel so much better now!
  16. I think they wied to try and apply the new guidelines just to be difficult. but it is what it is and I have to abide by it. I will do it and try to do it as fast as I can even if it means doing the 4 days I am of to finish it as fast as I can!
  17. if you are an lpn u dont have to do this but everyone else has to. I am a respiratory therapist but the board doesnt consider my 8 years experience enough so now i have to do 500 unpid hours of clinical. just one more hoop to jump through but i am going to do it and get this mess over with.
  18. in relation to the excelsior graduates that were denied licensure in georgia since July 2008
  19. I talked with the board of nursing and was told that those people whose waivers were denied would get temp licenses and would have to do a 500 hour clinical preceptorship(unpaid) to be eligible for permenant licensure. The clinical breakdowns as follows: 200 med/surg; 100 peds; 100 ob/gyn; 100 pysch. We should get a letter in the mail this week with details.
  20. I am sure the board will use this as a opportunity to earn money off students. The board is still denying people wha have submitted their waivers as requested by the he board denied my waiver based on rule 410-08.01. This is the rule for reinstatment and should not be applied in my case or anyone else in this position. If you recieved a denial waiver make look at the rule the denial was based on and if it not based on 410-3 you need to make a complaint to the secretary of state Karen Handel. She doesnt have the authority to make the decisions for the board but she does have the authority to make the board follow the law!
  21. If you want to be a nurse you can go either route. Most bridge program accepts RT, Lpn, and paramedica. RT s do make much more mont than lpn. I am a RRt and went back to school for my RN and I feel because of my RT background I have more options open to me. Most Rt programs are RRT programs. As a RT you are expected to manage vents, assess patients, and a whole lot of other things. I stay in Atlanta and at all hospitals RT are respected and have a wide range of responsibilities. It is up to you as to what to do but if you want to make more money initially I would say go for RT and it also lets you learn alot of knowlegde that most nurses dont know!
  22. I also used saunders nclex- rn review. You could study by sections. It worked good with lis and study 101 I used both and they helped me alot
  23. The point of this thread is to keep people affected by the HB1041 informed on the latest developments. Since this does not apply to you do everyone here a favor and please do not post anymore negativity. I am so tired of people coming on here and spouting off some bs. GROW UP! Everyone who did EC worked very hard and we are no less qualified than any other students. So please keep your opinions to yourself!
