  1. @TraumaRUs, Thank you. That's what I'm thinking too. I contacted them with this question, and hope to hear from them. I'm hoping to hear something by the end of the week. Do they return calls or emails within a certain time frame?
  2. @TraumaRUs, Thanks for posting this. I'm in the same boat, and am unable to renew my ANCC certification since I no longer practice in the specialty. Do I let it lapse and not submit the renewal application and payment? Is there a more formal way of letting ANCC know that I no longer practice in my certification specialty, rather than just letting it lapse? I scoured the renewal handbooks looking for this info, and was unable to find it.
  3. What if you only have the certification (e.g. ACNS-BC) but Not the APN state license? Are you still held to your highest certification (even if you do Not have the APN state license)?
  4. Inthesky, You mentioned 2 schools in which students are liable for faculty travel expenses. One school is in South Dakota. Where is the other school (in which students must pay for faculty expenses)? This would help out prospective students so much.
  5. I know of a BSN-nurse with a MEd (Master of Education) who was employed as an adjunct at ADN and PN programs. Another colleague has a BSN and EdD (Doctor of Education) who is employed at an ADN program. Because she does not have a MSN, she is not qualified to teach at the BSN level.
  6. Hi Daisybaby I found the MS in Medical Education at Nova Southeastern University, which is delivered online. http://www.fischlerschool.nova.edu/programs/ms/health/index.htm It may help you or others who interested in a MS in Medical Education. It is open to individuals in any health professions field. Let me know if you need more information.
  7. Some of my colleagues are adjunct instructors now. They told me a Masters degree in a health related field would increase your chances of attaining an adjunct position. Let us know how it works out.
  8. Hi Chris2732 Have you found a preceptor yet? Did you know going into any accredited MSN program that practicum hours and a preceptor are required? What field are you currently in? I may be able to point you in the right direction regarding your dilemma in not finding a preceptor. It would be sad to know that potential nursing faculty, like yourself, were not given an opportunity to achieve the MSN. We could use faculty, like you, who are encouraging and attentive to students.
  9. Here is a link about the medical coding career field, which may help most of you who are trying to transition to coding. http://www.medicalcodingcareerguide.com/chaptertwo/disadvantages.html Here is information on finding a remote coding job: http://www.medicalcodingcareerguide.com/chapterfive/ This web site may shed some light on how some newly certified coders without work experience are doing: http://www.indeed.com/forum/job/medical-coder/is-it-possible-find-entry-level-coding-jobs/t23446 When you do get hired as coders, please share with the forum how you landed your coding job! Good Luck to all of you!
  10. NOVA has an online PhD program: http://www.nova.edu/nursing/phd/index.html University of Arizona has an online doctoral program also: http://www.nursing.arizona.edu/doctoral.htm George Washington University's online DNP program: http://www.gwumc.edu/healthsci/programs/dnp/ A.T. Still University has an online Doctor of Health Education (D.H.Ed.) and Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.): http://www.atsu.edu/ashs/online_programs/DHsc/index.htm http://www.atsu.edu/shm/online_programs/doctor_health_education/index.htm The websites did not state that a GRE was required for admissions.
  11. I just sent you one, and you can reply back to me. Go to "My Account".
  12. These links may help you decide whether you really want to pursue coding, whether there is outsourcing or not. If you think that this will affect future job prospects, then pursue a different field. http://www.aapc.com/memberarea/forums/showthread.php?t=3214 http://www.crn.com/channelcommunity/thread.jspa?threadID=7839&tstart=0
  13. Augsburg College has a Master of Arts in Nursing. You stated that you are interested in poetry and literature. The MA program has phenomenal reading lists and taps into the creativity part of nursing. I know that its far from where you live, however, you might really enjoy the program. http://www.augsburg.edu/ma_nursing/ George Washington University was offering an online MSN in End of Life Care that may have interested you. However, they have discontinued the program as of this semester. GWU does have online MSN programs in leadership and management, if you're interested. http://www.gwumc.edu/healthsci/programs/eol/program_requirements.cfm http://www.gwumc.edu/healthsci/departments/nursing/programs.cfm
  14. You can check this web site out which may help you land the job without the 3-5 years experience. http://health-information.advanceweb.com/Editorial/Content/Editorial.aspx?CC=122038 https://www.aapc.com/memberarea/forums/showthread.php?t=3008 http://www.indeed.com/forum/job/medical-coder/No-job-new-medical-coder-because-don-t-have-2-years/t89318/p1 I think that how you present your resume is key to getting the job. It was for me. You can PM for additional information. I would be glad to help.
