advice for new student to get organized
Study to your strengths. If you're a flashcard making ninja, make flashcards; if you write fast, take notes on your reading. Personally, I remember a good portion of what I've read. After reading a chapter I make notes from memory and check them against the book. When a test approaches I study from my notes. My advice is to avoid flashcards, unless its for vocab or you find them useful. Making flashcards can be a huge time-sink. Good Luck! -B

bandage scissors?
Get bigger ones if you think they are too small. They should fit your hand and be comfortable to use. I doubt your school has any guidelines on which bandage scissors to buy. Good luck! -B

dosage calculation
There are many people in the world who have trouble with math, so you shouldn't feel like an idiot. It's a practiced skill. Keep doing problems and it will make sense eventually. -B

dosage calculation
True, the answer was already given, so here you go: min = 1min/0.5mL * 1mL/0.25mg * 0.25mg = 2min -B

lol. TheSquire and I will get you through this. Apparently we are both watching this thread like hawks. I've even brewed some coffee to keep me alert.

dosage calculation
Make sure you start with what you're looking for. You're looking for time, so start with minutes. Flip 0.5mL/min (so you would have 1min/0.5mL) and then get the units to cancel until you are left with only minutes. -B

I like it for the same reason. It's so short, but it was infinitely useful when I was tutoring students on DA. -B

dosage calculation
Here's a link to some basic info on DA. It's usually taught in algebra classes (intermediate algebra, I think); though a refresher is common in early chemistry. It's very easy. Don't let the name fool you. -B

Taking Bio 223 & 251 at same time?!
Think of it this way: Biology majors take more then one biology class at a time. So it's "do-able." Good luck! -B

Just wondering NP & PA
I don't think any NPs are looking down on PAs. When deciding, you should also take into account that many NPs have years of nursing experience prior to becoming an NP. My point is, you shouldn't base your decisions solely on program curriculum. Pre-med courses are basic science classes that many majors, including some nursing majors, have to take. I'm not trying to talk you into one program over another. Only you know which one is a better fit for you, based on your interests. As for the physician you talked to: It's one opinion about NPs. Chances are, if you talked to another physician, he/she might have more positive things to say. I know my PCP is very supportive of the profession (and PAs for that matter). -B

VCC immunizations and health screening?
The TDaP vaccine is also recommended for health care workers. It cost me $59 to get most of my vaccines at the health department (Michigan); I say "most" because this price does not include the two additional Hep B shots that I need. The pricing was: Hep B (3 shots over 3 months) @ $35 each TDaP @ $8 MMR @ $8 TB test (interdermal) @$8 So an initial $59 + $70 spread out over 2 more months. Considering the Hep B shots were going to be >$300 at my PCP's office, it's pretty cheap. -B

solving systems of linear equations via substitutio method?
:up:Youtube is a good resource. There's also Khan Academy for "how to" videos.

solving systems of linear equations via substitutio method?
I'll work the first problem for you. Step 1: Solve one equation for either x or y. In this case the second equation (8x = -12y + 24) is the easiest; just divide both sides by 8 and we get x=-3/2y + 3. Step 2: Substitute the value of x that we just found in to the first equation (2x + 3y = 6); doing so we get 2(-3/2y + 3) + 3y = 6. Now simplifying we get: 2(-3/2y + 3) + 3y = 6 (-6/2y + 6) +3y = 6 (-3y + 6) + 3y = 6 -3y + 3y + 6 = 6 6 = 6 In this case we don't need to solve for y; most systems will require another step. There are two instances where this will happen, 1) We get a true statement, which is what we have here (6 does equal 6, right?) or 2) We get a false statement (perhaps, 6 = 3, which doesn't make sense). The first situation, and the answer to this system, tells us that we have infinitely many solutions. The second situation is an example of an answer to a system with no solutions. Edit: I was going to post another problem, but all of your problems are similar. Let me know if you need more help.

WOW!!! I just saw how much first semester books cost!!!
Shop around. I purchased all of my books online at amazon, walmart, and b&n. I only spent $465. College bookstores are notorious for marking up prices. -B Edit: Brunner's Med-Surg $100.52 for both volumes of Brunner's.

Seeking advice second career
Since you already have a bachelors, you could consider an accelerated BSN. I'm not sure if it would save you money, but it would decrease the amount of time you're not working. -B
