  3. Male nurses are the best nurses!!!! Anywhere you go, whatever you do, there's always going to be drama and politics. there's gonna be gossip and there's going to be jealousy. I've been in nursing for 10 years now, and its always the same **** of drama between females. jealousy!!! "how come she has an easy run", "how come she got promote and i didn't". What I'm trying to say is, you cant avoid those dramas at work, any work, i guess, for that matter. most of the time i see male nurses get involve on those types of drama is when he sleeps with someone at work... u know what i'm sayin!! I never had problems working with male nurses, ever, we had respect for each other. I guess because we are outnumbered. the cohesiveness is there. Male nurses are the best nurses... nuff said!!
  4. I got to ask, since she's 100 and she's not eating well, is she a hospice candidate? In addition, i am just throwing this idea out there, is it a sudden onset wound and pear in shape? if so it might be a Kennedy terminal ulcer. if it is there is really nothing you could do to heal the wound because her body is shutting down. I would suggest have that wound sharp debrided by PT, if possible. As far as dressing, aquacel ag is a good choice, probably use a foam dressing as a secondary dressing to add more absorbency. You could also try using alginates, they are good in absorbing wounds too. Another idea is using Hydrofera Blue, it could absorb large amount of drainage and it is also an antimicrobial. Hope this helps..
  5. I went to West Coast University (WCU) in Anaheim. It is expensive, however it is up to you on how long your willing to wait in a community college. I took all my pre-req's at a community college, since I was an LVN i thought it would be easier for me to get in. However, there are lots of LVNs trying to transition as an RN too. So the waiting list is also long. After finishing all my pre-reqs I went to my counselor spring 2008, she told me that I have to wait until Fall 09 just to get in the waiting list!!! And then probably another 3-5 years on the waiting list. So I enrolled at WCU spring 08 and graduated last month. Now i am a jobless RN...hahahaha...If you have some college pre-reqs, they will subtract that from your tuition. It might be expensive, however, 3-5 years on the waiting list is too long for me. Plus if I get a job, that will be 3-5 years experience under my belt, rather than waiting for that long. If you are really interested call them, the longer you wait, the higher the tuition goes!!!
  6. I think since there's a lot of experienced nurses that had been laid-off and are having problems getting hired, they are willing to receive a pay cut. Now since experienced nurses are now "affordable" or "cheaper", hospitals I think are more willing to hire experience nurses vs. new grads. This way, hospitals are not going to pay for new grad training. That's just my 2 cents . I am a new grad too with almost 10 year experience as an LVN and it's hard for me to find a job. I am Wound Care Certified (WCC) too, i was hoping since they change the regulations on nosocomial pressure ulcers that I have a better chance. But to no avail:scrying::scrying:
  7. Hi, I will be graduating next week for my associates degree in nursing...wohoo!!!!! I had been a wound nurse for 6 years in a LTC facility as an LVN. I love wound care so much that I wanted to specialized in wound care as an RN so I decided to apply in wcei wound care certification next month in Las Vegas (wish me luck...for my certificate..lol). I searched online and found several companies/hospitals here in southern California looking for wound care rn's. I would like to know what would be the starting or expected salary for a wound care nurse (rn) so I would have an idea if I do go for an interview, especially as a new grad. In addition, would they take my 6 year experience in wound into consideration when hiring and how much I get paid. Thanks robert
