I'm a mixture of Taino, Mexica(aztec) and Comanche. I think it's sad to see indigenous people considered "illegal immigrants" when they're migrating on their ancestral homeland before any colonial borders were formed. As indigenous people we still have it rough in the americas. Especially in latin america. I just read article a few weeks ago about the mexican government killing a bunch of mayan indians in the jungles of chiapas.

It may depend on which state you're in. I'm currently in Michigan with a BSN and no license and I currently work as a clinical research coordinator.

Friday I have to work until 5:30 which may be a good thing. Then I'll be staying at my parents house the night before to relax and get away from everything.

I am taking the NCLEX RN for the 4th time this Saturday. The last time I took it was in August of 2007. I'm so nervous. I haven't studied as much as I would've liked but I'm doing much better on the practice exams now mainly due to the fact that my current job isn't weighed on whether or not I pass. I'm also taking it at a different facility this time around. Maybe a change in scenery will be beneficial since in my prior exams I took them all at the same facility. I'm so anxious to the point where I feel as though I need to reschedule.

congrats! How many questions did you have? The last time I took boards was in Aug. of 07 and I'm now scheduled for Nov. 8th.

quick question for anyone taking or has taken Kaplan. I'm taking the online course I did the diagnostic exam. I got a 56% (100 out of 180 questions) on it and that's without studying for the past year. The last time I took the NCLEX was in Aug of 07. I've heard that students should aim for a 65% or higher.

I personally wouldn't recommend Kaplan but only because of my own personal experience. I'm hoping to take boards next month for the 4th time and I'm currently taking Kaplan for the 4th time also but only because I'm required by the state to take a refresher course. However, I'm taking the class online this time and I like it much more than actually going to their classrooms. Your experience with Kaplan may differ however I will say that I did see quite a few people re-taking Kaplan as well. Oh yeah I almost forgot...I bought the Kaplan medication fash cards for roughly $18. I do like those better than others.

I'll say a prayer for you. I know exactly what you're going through. Next month I'll be taking the NCLEX again for the 4th time. Just try to stay positive and focused. The first time I took the NCLEX I had all 265 questions, the second time I had 75 questions and the third I had 140 questions. I'm not sure what the statistics are, but from my experience, almost everyone I've talked to that had 75 questions passed. I think I fell into that small percentile that didn't pass.

After my semester of nursing school I landed a job in the recovery room at a big children's hospital. The job was amazing, I learned a ton of info and the population grew on me. I spent 3 years there while in nursing school. After I graduated I spent 4 months as a graduate nurse on a different unit at the same hospital. I can't wait to pass boards this time around.

I say get whatever hairsytle you want as long as you work toward being the best nurse you can possibly be. Myself, I go to the barbershop every Friday and get a taper fade with a razor line to keep my hairline lined up. I also have tattoos all of which represent my faith and my heritage. My background is native american and my ancestors are Taino, Mexica, and Hopi Indians. I honestly could care less is someone dislikes my tattoos. I'm representing my ancestors on my ancestral homeland so if a patient or coworker doesn't like that's their problem. Also, on the note of long hair not being professional, I wouldn't worry about that. Just think of the cultural genocide the indigenous people of the americas went through when europeans came here. Males were forced by europeans to cut their long hair because they felt it was more proper...wrong.

Hi, I'm new to the website and I came across it while searching for any extra tips to help me pass nclex. To briefly describe my situation; I graduated from nursing school in December of 2006. I was already working at a children's hospital as a nursing assistant in the PACU and in February of 2007 I transferred to a graduate nurse position on a different unit at the children's hospital. In January of 07 I had taken Kaplan and I was hoping to take it in February but the state of Michigan misplaced my license application and I had to refax everything back in and wait until April to take boards. I took the NCLEX in the middle of April 07 and I had 265 questions completed in roughly 5 1/2 hours. 2 days later I found out that I didn't pass. Immediately I signed up to take the test again. My next scheduled test was for the beginning of June 07 which was pretty worrisome considering that June 19th would be the last day that I could hold my graduate nurse position. Unfortunately I didn't pass the second time I took the NCLEX and I could no longer hold my graduate nurse position which was a terrible experience because I loved working on that unit. My nurse manager was very considerate and worked out a deal with the floor I previously worked on during nursing school. The deal was that they would take me back as nursing assistant and I could keep my benefits/insurance and I would also take the NCLEX again and go back up to the unit. I signed up for Kaplan a third time and I took the NCLEX at the end of August 07. Again I didn't pass. I had two weeks after failing the NCLEX for the third time to find another job at the hospital in order to keep my insurance. Although I could've remained where I was at with a nursing assistant position, they could not keep be with insurance and benefits. So I found a permanent position working in the pathology lab. Even though I kept my insurance and benefits, the pay was only $10/hour and with my rent alone being $700/month there was no way to support myself. After being in the pathology lab for about 3 months I landed another job at the hospital working in clinical trials. The job pays a little bit better, but not much which is discouraging considering that it requires a bachelor's degree in any health field. I've been in this position since December of 07 and I'm definitely ready to leave and pursue a career as a nurse. Plus bills keep adding up and I'll be making about $12,000 more a year as a RN. I had signed up to retest in March of 08 however a few days after registering again with PearsonVue I received a letter in the mail stating the I must take a refresher course prior to taking the NCLEX again. Which was aggrivating because I feel as though the state could've sent me this letter after I failed the NCLEX for the third time in August of 07. The letter listed 6 or 7 places to take a refresher course, all of which were colleges and it became ridiculous because at least 2 or 3 of the schools got rid of their RN refresher program, others only offered 1 semester or it required that the student already have their license. I called the state and they said they will accept the Kaplan online class which I am hoping to begin this week. I haven't really studied much over the past year mainly due to the high levels of stress and financial instability I've endured. I'm hoping people here can give me advice and tips to taking the NCELX again. I know medications is the big area I really need to focus on. Anything would be appreciated.
