Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
I honestly don't remember how many hours of clinical I had to start out with. I think you do one 8 hour shift per week. I think. When I started the program they were still doing the 6 semester tract so I didn't even have clinical my first semester. But since they changed the program to a 5 semester tract I'm not sure how busy your first semester will be. I know most of the people in my class have held part-time jobs throughout the whole program so I'm sure it's doable. :)

Emergency nursing help
Thank you for the responses everyone! I am really excited about doing this project as I don't know much about ER nursing, but would love to! It may even help me down the road to get a job in the ER if they see I was interested enough to do an honors project on ER nursing! Thanks!!

Emergency nursing help
Hi Everyone! I am currently in my 5th semester of nursing school and am currently working on my honors project. I have been interested in emergency nursing since before starting nursing school so I decided to do my project on emergency nursing. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on additional areas that I could include in my research project. Here is what I have in mind so far: Determine requirements for becoming an ER nurse Identify the various trauma levels of different emergency rooms Identify the triage levels used to prioritize patient care Demonstrate an understanding of emergency nursing I plan on submitting a questionnaire to students in various semesters at my nursing school to determine their interest in ER nursing and their knowledge base regarding ER nursing. I am also going to interview various emergency nurse managers to get an idea of what they look for when hiring a new ER nurse. I want to present the information I gather in a journal article and/or with a presentation to nursing students. My nursing school does not offer any kind of educational guidance, I guess you could call it, regarding ER nursing so I thought I would develop a way that those students who were interested could get the information the school doesn't provide. If anyone has any advice on additional information to research/include or sites that offer great information on emergency nursing I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks so much!

Anyone heard back from CSU Sacramento?
I'm just curious for all of you that got into Sac State for the fall 09 semester, how many points did you have? I applied for the fall 08 and spring 09 semester and didn't get in and last semester the point cut off was like 84 or something. I was just wondering if they raised the points again or not. Not that it really matters as I got into Chico state last spring so I won't be re-applying to Sac State I was just wondering if the point system is getting better or worse. Thanks guys!

Who's moving to another city/out of state for Nursing School?
I moved from Roseville, CA to Chico, CA last semester and let me tell you that it has been hard thus far. You don't realize how nice it is to have family close to you until you don't have it anymore. Its also hard for me because I just got engaged in November and my fiance couldnt move down with me. So 3 years of being away from him and my family! But we do what we have to right?

Buying a Stethoscope
I have kind of a dumb question. Next semester I start my clinical's and we need to get a stethoscope, but the instructors told us it needed to have a turn-able diaphragm/bell piece. Do they all have one of those or is there a special one I need to buy? I have looked at the Littmann Classic II but it doesnt say it has a turn-able chest piece. I have an old stehoscope that I bought but it has two tubes connecting to the chestpieace but we need to get one with just one tube. But the one that I have does have a turn-able chest piece so I was just wondering if thats standard for all of them or if there is a special one I need to buy. Thanks!

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
I don't really know much about SFSU nursing's program, but I guess you would have to decide which is closer to where you live. If you live closer to SF I would go there, but if you live closer to chico then come here! I don't know if you are planning on living on campus or getting an apt, but I am pretty sure that the cost of living in SF is much higher then out here in chico. So depedning on your budjet, you might want to look at that also. I wish I had more info to give you, but I really dont know much at SFSU as I didn't apply there. But I really like Chico and so far the nursing program has been pretty good. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
Have you already applied to Chico's nursing program for the fall 09 semester? If you haven't the application period already passed and so you can't apply to the nursing program until Fall 10. They are switching from a 6 semester to a 5 semester program starting fall 2010 so they aren't taking any applications for the spring 2010 semester. What is it exactly that you would like to know? Most of the information that you need can be found on their website. As far as competition, I think every school is very competitive. I applied to Chico state for the fall 08 semester and didn't get in and I had a 4.0, work exp., and got an 85% on my Teas. Then I re-applied for the spring 09 semester this time with a 4.0, 89% on my Teas, work exp. and 200+ hours of community service and I got in. Almost all nursing programs have very competitive programs, but so far I like chico state's program so I would recommend it! Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer.

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
Hmm, well I am not really sure if they sent us any additional paperwork after we sent in our acceptance letters, but I am sure you could call the nursing office and ask. Are you having your mail held? Because that way you would still get your mail and not have to worry about it getting lost or anything. The only piece of paperwork that had a time limit was the acceptance response sheet, so nothing to worry about missing. :)

What admission packet are you talking about? Your acceptance/denial letters? Because if you already got your acceptance letter in the mail, the paperwork that came with it, is all that you will get in the mail. They don't send out anything else, if I remember correctly. You should have already got the packet from the university and so the paperwork you got with your acceptance letter is all the nursing program sends out. It should have on there what classes to sign up for, immunizations that you need, and anything else important.

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
Did you apply to CSU Chico or somewhere else? And do you already have a bachelors degree in something else? Because if you do, then you wouldn't have to do the BSN program you would be doing the MSN program. Also, when you say you log in and it says you are a nursing student, where are you logging in? I'm just a little confused. Thanks

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
For some reason they decided to cut 281 from the curriculum. I think it might have been because the class really was a waste. I have talked to students from other semester's and they all said that that class was a waste of their time. So my guess is, the professors thought the same thing. We didn't end up being paired with an elder patient, maybe they thought that was a waste too, i dont know. So pretty much the first semester is just lecture and exams. We have only one tour in 2 weeks which is to a mortuary, but other than that its just go to class and take exam's. :) If I didn't have two other GE classes that I was taking with the nursing classes, I would be really bored. Haha. One of my friends is only taking the two nursing classes so she has class tuesday from 8-10 and then thursday from 8-12 and thats it. She say's she gets so bored all the time haha. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
The school is not transitioning to a 5 semester program until Fall of '10. The spring '10 semester is canceled so the Fall '09 group is the last group of applicants they will take until the following fall. They are going to combine semester 1 and semester 2 I believe for the 5 semester program. So you would have 282, 283, 284, and 285. As far as classes go, I am currently enrolled in 282 and 283 and next semester I am enrolled in 284 and 285. I do believe that 2 people have dropped out of my semester class, so there are 2 clinical spots open. I'm not sure if they will let you enter as a second semester student taking 282, 283, 284, and 285 but I know we have space available. Hope this helps. let me know if you have any other questions.

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
Congrats on being accepted into the program :). Um, unfortunately the first semester kind of sucks. You don't have clinical and one class really has nothing to do with nursing its more of the history and foundation of Nursing. The other class you have to take is really interesting but is supposed to be taken with clinical but because they are shifting to a 5 semester program... you don't get clinical until second semester. I ended up taking two of the upper division classes I had left along with my two nursing classes, but am glad to start clinical next semester! As far as taking pharm.. I wouldn't because we discussed pharm this semester in 283 and then in 3rd semester there is an entire pharm class. Hope this helps.

How old were you when you began nursing school?
Got two AS degrees and one AA degree at 22. Started Nursing program (BSN) this year at 23 Will graduate (hopefully!) in Fall of 2011 at age 26.

How far WOULD you and DID you travel for nursing school?
I moved 2 hours away from my family and newly engaged fiance. It has been really hard being away from him, but I am really enjoying the program and with the the amount I am learning its totally worth it. It might be hard for you in the beginning but once you get used to it and you realize that this going to change your future your outlook will change. Just know that nothing in life comes easy and if you want something from life you have to make sacrifices!

Anyone use Potter & Perry 7th Edition Nursing Fundamentals?
My school also uses the p & p 7th edition book, but I have noticed that *most* of the exam questions come from the lectures. So I really only the use the book to help clarify things that I might not have fully understood in lecture. You are not going to remember everything that you read for every chapter you are required to know so I just use to to help with clarifications and such. When I first started nursing school I made sure I read every chapter for that first exam because I didn't know what to expect from the professors. But now that I have taken the first exam and realized that the majority of the material came from lecture I don't have to memorize every chapter. But really you have to do what works for you. If you read every chapter before the exam you just took and only got a 79% maybe reading the whole thing isn't a good idea. Sometimes I find that if I read too much at a time or try to cram way too much into my brain it just makes things worse. So just try things out and see what works for you!

Is Anyone Applying For Or Has Applied For Csu Chico State Nursing Program???
I'm sure you will get in! When are you applying again? For the Fall of 2010? Only reason I ask is because the school is transitioning into a 5 semester program instead of a 6 semester program and so they aren't taking any applications for the Spring 2010 semester. This might make your chances even harder to get in seeing as how there will be twice as many people applying in the fall from not being able to apply in the spring. So make sure you get some good grades and do some volunteering if you have time to earn some extra points! And if you don't get in don't give up because I didn't get accepted my first time applying and look where I am now!
