Getting a Job While in IPN
Great insights by Regalnurse. Can this nurse go directly to the Nurse Manager as well? Or are you meaning Nurse Manager when you say Nurse Supervisor? The Nurse Supervisor at my hospital doesn't hire anyone. They just watch the hospital and are "in charge" of the whole hospital for any major nursing incidents. The Nurse MANAGER does the hiring specifically for whatever unit that is. Maybe at a Clinic the Nurse Manager IS the Nurse Supervisor (they are the same thing)? BTW, this going directly to the Nurse Manager or Nurse Supervisor & bypassing the HR people is a great idea for any nurse who really wants to get a particular job at a facility and feels the HR people are trashing their resumes.

I am done with home health, hopefully forever this time.
What exactly was the "last straw"? The having to stay there 4 hours? Did they not pay you for the time there?

Utilization Review Nurse-How do you break into the field?
I have over 31 years experience as an RN. I worked Telemetry/Cardiac Stepdown mainly, along with some IR, GI lab, Home Health, LTC, Med-Surg, Charge Nurse, and some Informatics experience. I want to segway into either Utilization Review. I am self-learning about Interqual from some helpful videos online. What is the best way to become a U. R. nurse? What should I highlight on my resume? James

How to be a Utilization Review Nurse?
Are you still doing UM work? How do you like it? I am looking to apply to do UM work too. I have been a floor nurse (Cardiology, Med/Surg) for 31 yrs. Also, I have done some HH & Radiology dept. too. How many patient's charts do you have to review each day, and are you able to get them done in your 8 hrs shift?

charting!!!! I am about to leave home health...
Nurse Bulldog, when you said that you give each client 1 hour (including travel to, the visit, and charting), I assume that you are talking about re-visits, correct? Were you being paid fee-for-visit or salary with X amount of patients you were supposed to see each day? For that 1 hour, what was the breakdown, 1/3 travel, 1/3 visit, 1/3 charting?

Male nurses
I have done Home care visits, per diem, back in the mid-90's (I'm old). Worked the floor at a hospital at the same time. Been on the floor since, however I am now thinking about going back to do homecare visits for the same reasons you like it (being free and also being able to concentrate on 1 patient at a time. Can I ask, how long do your re-visits take (including charting)? How many re-visits can you do in a day, let's say from 7a-4p? Including charting. Do you do new visits (opens) as well? Also, does your homecare do salary vs. per diem for their nurses?

Hospital nurse pay around the country
In Chicago, at a UNION hospital, new grads start at 33/hr. A 10 yr nurse would be about 48/hr. 25 yr nurse would be 60+/hr depending on Associates, bachelor's, or Masters degree.

Male nurses
I have been a nurse for 31 yrs. If I were to do it all over again, I would NOT become a nurse again. I have gotten used to being around mostly women of course as nursing is still female dominated, but per the OP question, no, if I was 18yrs old again, I'd get into the trades (HVAC, Electrical, etc.) or Computer Science, instead of nursing. Don't get me wrong, I think I'm a damn good nurse, but the majority of the public still see nursing as a female job, & honestly that public perception is emasculating to me, even after all these years.

AZ-Phoenix area pay
Thanks. Are you in a Union? My pay is $65/hr at a Union teaching hospital in Chicago, with 30 yrs. BSN. I work Step-down. And with our contract, if I work at our clinic, or anywhere else in our hospital system, I'd get the same pay. The contract is based on years of experience.

Do you think there will be less MCCC RN students because of the mandatory Vaccine
Are they STILL requiring the Covid vaccine in July 2024? Just wondering. I am recently semi-retired but thinking about going back to do some PRN work.

AZ-Phoenix area pay
I am an experienced RN (30yrs). I am moving to AZ, in the next 1-2 yrs. I am wondering about pay for an RN with my experience. My 30 yr experience is in the hospital as a Stepdown (with ventilators) unit. I also did some work in the Interventional radiology dept, Gi lab, HH, but that was 20 yrs ago. I am more looking for a clinic job, but I am OK with another stepdown unit too.
