  1. I also applied. What does your status say now regarding the application?
  2. Hey was wondering where abouts you saw the intern position posted for MD Anderson, I just checked all their open positions and didn't see anything listed and their link to the GN intern page still says to check back spring 2011
  3. cut-off for part-time is usually higher because they accept much less students for the part-time program, I think they only accept like 30 students so makes sense why the cut-off would be higher.
  4. Yes it would make fall easier but don't get too excited yet, it's random lottery, they were offering mental health over the summer and they only had 6 places and many people put their name down to be picked. I was lucky that I got picked. So good luck to you, its certainly worth a shot. I just got down with 2nd semester. Like I said i took mental health over the summer and did med-surg by itself in the fall. So yeah it was easier then first in that sense but I the content of the material is harder then first semester. I think people just say its easier because by the time you've gotten to second you know what to expect, you know what works for you in terms of study and how to manage your time etc.
  5. I'm not sure, if they do you will hear something towards the end of the semester, and if you are full time then if they offer it to you it'll only be limited spaces due to the part time people so that's why they pick the people via random lottery. It doesn't mean you get to graduate sooner, it just spreads out your work load which is nice. Actually I just looked up both the part-time tracks (those that start in fall vs. spring) and looks like one of the groups takes peds over the summer so you may get the option to put your name on a list to be randomly chosen for it.
  6. what you need to know for fluid and electrolytes in 115 is way more in depth then first semester so thats def a good thing to get started on. i don't know how you went with the textbook reading in first semester but even with 115 as my only class (i took 243 over the summer) it was pretty much impossible to do all the reading, unless you love reading and can spend hours focusing to get it done lol. Not much else comes to mind except to stay on top of your clinical assignments in both classes as there is a fair amount of them.
  7. I just finished 115 and I believe the first lecture was chapters 16, 17, 18 (pre-op, intraoperative and post op stuff), that stuff is pretty simple, also get started on chapter 13 (fluid and electrolytes), as that's a major part and can be quite difficult to comprehend all of the information.
  8. Yeah nine years ago seems pretty extreme to not consider you. But glad you don't mind that they are no longer an option. This week I just have to take finals for second semester of the nursing program and then first year will be complete . I wish you luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
  9. CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy that you finally got your answer and that it was good news...let the fun and stress begin lol.
  10. yes you will go sign a letter saying that you accept the offer to be in the program and pick up a packet that tells you all the paperwork you need to turn into your advisor so that you can receive your lovely clinical ticket so that you can take care of real patients in your first semester! Things move very quickly for you from this point forward trust me.
  11. Good luck and I hope you like it also. I'm in second semester of the program and have been mostly happy with it. CSN has a great reputation for their nursing program.
  12. Yeah sorry the deadline was a couple of months ago and they made the phone calls today to those who got accepted so you will have to try and apply for the fall program.
  13. I can't remember her name but I would call the limited entry office person where you turned in the application.
  14. Yeah I was going to say the same thing..since entry is based upon points that they then have to turn to random lottery if there is more applicants than spots for the last cut off number.
  15. I don't think it's alphabetically because I know someone who's last name starts with R and they got their call pretty early like 10.30, 11ish so I think it might go by points. but guess it also depends whether there is just one person making phone calls or more than one as to how long it takes. Sock monkey is right, with all those phone numbers to call I can imagine it would be pretty easy to mis-dial.
  16. I also think people drop out after orientation because they give you so much information that day that's so overwhelming that some people are probably like oh no I don't think this is for me lol.
  17. If you don't get a call tomorrow I would say call the school and ask if you are sure you had that many points and you heard people got accepted with less points than you. Perhaps there was something wrong with your application and they didn't feel it it was complete, either way you need some kind of answer as to why if you were above the cut off.
  18. No experience being an alternate but I would say be happy that you still at least have a chance, that's more than those who didn't receive phone calls at all. So keep those fingers crossed! I believe though if they have to pick from the alternate list they do it by random lottery.
  19. That is correct...that's what I'm taking right now, my one and only class and it's nice to just have to focus on the one class.
  20. This is how it works for people who start in the Spring. In spring semester you take pharm and 101 and fall you are supposed to take mental health and med surg...well for full time students they give you an option of putting your name on a list to take mental health over the summer with the part time students. The students are chosen by random lottery from that list and they picked 6 students, I thankfully was one of those 6 and I'm sooo glad I got picked.
  21. Sorry you all are still waiting! I remember waiting for the phone call also but I imagine they are very close to calling you guys. I forget what the date was when I got the call last year but it was either the second last or last week of October. So hold on just a little more you are almost there!
  22. hahaha no I'm not kidding and no that's not including pharm, pharm has it's own separate syllabus but it's not that big.
  23. I don't believe it's tutoring, I think they just kind of ask you about your lifestyle and study habits to see where you might improve so that you do better. I know some representatives come and talk to you during one of your classes early in the program to let you know what they offer. but yeah your teachers will let you know what you need to get on exams and if you don't get it that you need to talk to them etc. Don't worry you'll be fine! The syllabus in first semester is very detailed and like 150 pages long lol.
  24. I think they tell you most of this info during orientation. When you get to a certain point in first semester if you aren't doing well you are required to meet with your instructors and forced to go talk to the department (I forget what it's called) that talk to you about why you think you're not doing well and things you can try to help improve your study techniques etc. You can work out as you go along if you're in trouble. They tell you how many total exam points you need to pass so you can keep track as you take each exam and figure out your percentage and what you need to get to pass. If you want to discuss your grades then I would talk directly to your instructor for that specific class.
  25. No that's not how it works. Say in 2nd semester which is mental health and med surg for full time students. If you fail med surg then you come back in the spring and take mental health and med surg again. However now that I think about it say you don't know if you fail until the very end like finals and you only fail the one class I don't know if you'd just retake that one class in the spring. But you cannot move onto the next semesters classes until you've completed all the ones prior not that you would want to because the work load would be impossible.
