awful preceptor-I left the program
Never complain, contradict, or criticize people above you and you'll just do fine. Just focus on being a better nurse (unless a patient is in danger). These are the rules of business from a guys point of view.

Alcoholic Mother--Need Professional Advice
I'm assuming the "pounding on her chest" she was talking about was them doing CPR???? It's called a precordial "thump". Its used to covert the person back into NSR. Its used sometimes while you are waiting for a defibrilator. I'm sorry about your situation. I can't imagine.

Are you allergic to latex? Try using plastic gloves.

Is this appropriate?
It depends on the state but I think if you are reimbursed in ANY way then you are liable as a RN. I would check your hospital protocol as well.

What is the answer to this test question?
Howdy, The answer is true if the instructor means microgram. This can be abbreviated two ways: mcg or mg. The last one (mg), the m will have a little tail on the end of it. I always use mcg because most likely you are dealing with a critical med. -Benny

Be very Careful about considering Excelsior's Online ADN program...
Hey all, I will get my RN this coming may. I am planning to go the ec route because i will already have 160+ credit hours of undergrad (including adn) under my belt. Anyone here of any problems with this? Since I will have my RN from a accredited school, should I worry about having a BSN from EC? -Benny

Nursing student needs help. Dosage for kids meds.
Usually meds in peds are calculated mg/kg of body weight. The MD/CNP will order the med and you check the dose to see if it is in the safe range to give. -Benny

school!!
Steph, I am in nursing school and I'm due to get my BSN in April 2005. I have had no previous experience in healthcare. I love nursing. If you are born to be a nurse then that alone will guide you. Follow your heart and not the academic process. -Benny

What is an ACLS & a BCLS certification? Is it the CPR training...
Basic cardiac life support and advanced cardiac life support......the cpr cert is way more simple. Usually the hospital you are emplyed at will pay for these trainings.

Are CNA's considered "Nurses"?
See the nursing practice act for your state. I outlines limits of care for employees. CNA's are reffered to as unlicensed assistive personel (UAP). They don't have a license!
