I did it backwards, I was a NICU nurse first and then became a NICU mom! My son was in the NICU for a couple of weeks and I was already a NICU nurse. Boy did I get to experience it from the other side! I do know that it made me a better nurse as far ...

  6. Nursery to NICU.... ?

I would think that having newborn nursery experience would be a great asset in transferring to the NICU. Does your hospital offer an internship program for the NICU and if so is that an option? Good luck in whichever you choose.

  15. Do you like nursing in Texas?

I work in a big hospital in Dallas and still make horrible money. My base salary as an RN, BSN with 2 years experience is $21/hr.
  16. Do you like nursing in Texas?

Nursing in TX is ok, I love my job in a level 3 NICU. However, salary rates for nurses are horrible in TX IMO.
  17. Hesi

I took the Hesi 2 years ago when I was in nursing school, my only advice would be to by the Hesi study guide and study from that. Several people I went to school with only studied NCLEX books and failed. IMO the HESI was more patho knowledge based, a...
  18. Experienced nurse interested in NICU

With your experience you would be a great asset to any NICU. I doubt you would need to take any special classes, most NICU's offer internships and train you specifically for the NICU. Good luck! :wink2:
