I thought I was holding up pretty good, until I saw my doctor about these weird arrythmias I have been having. He told me I have mitral valve prolapse with symptoms appearing right around the time I started the program, soooo basically triggered by stress. Apparently I'm not fairing as well as I though

I'm using a grapefruit(bigger target ), and it works like a charm!

I have to say my first day went really well! It was orientation-like, with a healthy dose of intimidation thrown in there! LOL But they don't scare me :chuckle I'm just really excited....They changed the pharm. book at the last min. which was frustrating, but oh well! I've already pin-pointed some classmates that I'd like to buddy up with, soooo...all in all a good first week! Thank God:yeah::yeah:

I'm in!! Took my NLN on Feb. 28th, got my score and am now waiting for the school's rejection or acceptance letter! Keeping my fingers crossed for everybody...

Thanks for the replies, they were definitely helpful and true to form. My first few nights have not gone so well. Between the short staff, lack of proper orientation, unfriendly and jaded coworkers, and bad examples set by all, I am definitely discouraged at this point I want to stick with it as long as I need to in order to get my cna certification, but I'm worried. There are so many call-ins by the other aides, and now the staff is telling me once I get off orientation that if my relieving shift does not come in I am REQUIRED to stay. It is the norm around this place to pull double shifts! I have another job and school on top of this one. I am becoming increasingly concerned. Well, thanks for listening to me rant! With so many people losing their jobs now I guess I am grateful to have 2, but this is not going to be easy!

I'm starting tonight at a nursing home orientating as a CNA, I'm taking the class there as I go. I've never worked in this kind of setting and am very nervous. Any advice on how I can get through this with ease, any definite do's and don'ts? Thanks in Advance!

I am taking the nln at the end of Feb. I have the suggested review book and am glad to hear that others have had success with it. I'll be happy when this test is over, any other tips for this particular test would help!! Thanks

Repetition, repetition, repetition!! LOL I concentrated a lot on the diff. long bones, it took awhile to keep the trochanters, condoyles, epicondyles, and tuberosities straight:bugeyes: I found this site really helpful too...http://science.nhmccd.edu/biol/skeleton/skeleton.htm. Good luck!

Got my cummulative score for our 3-part test(lecture and 2 bone id), I got a 99%. I goofed a little on the lecture portion but got all the bones right!! Phew, now on to muscles....

I'm awaiting my cummulative score on the bone test. We had a test for the lecture material, an ID test of the axial skeleton, and an ID test of the appendicular skeleton. I got 77 out of 82 possible points for the lecture portion. I'll find out Tues. (fingers crossed)

Hey you guys!! Wow, this thread is MASSIVE! I definitely know why :) I didn't have time to look through all of the posts, sorry I apologize if someone has already discussed this, buuttttttt... My A&P just started bones, and we are barely through the skull and I'm about to freak and have already lost hope !!!!!!! Anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to actually memorize this stuff? I mean seriously, all the foramens and fissures and condyles have me freaked out. Any help would be appreciated! Anyone in the same boat?

You are absolutely right, we MUST be our own advocates! In 1995, I was discharged from the ER with a diagnosis of a viral infection that "had to run its course". The next day I saw my FP, by late that night, after countless tests and a major surgery, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The ER had missed a 10 lbs., volley-ball sized tumor in a 13 year-old girls abdomen. If it wasn't for my mother's persistence and not settling for what the ER had told us, I wouldn't be here today..... So yes, you are 100% right on that. But we must also remember that we are turning over our health to human doctors, not super-human medical machines. We must always listen to that little voice telling us that something is not right and be thankful we did when it makes up for unfortunate yet unavoidable human error made by medical professionals. Glad that you are in better shape!

I completed a 2-year certificate Medical Coding program. I choose it because back then I did not think I had what it took to do patient care. I was unsuccessful in finding a position. I am now working towards RN. The demand is just not there for coding, does not have the diversity that nursing has either. Just my opinion....Coding was actually very interesting though! I have A&P with Mrs. Wilson in the fall, that makes me feel more at ease knowing you liked her. I'm only in my second semester, but like you I'm working on getting as many gen ed classes out of the way. I can't tell you how nervous I am about the entrance exam next year. I have the study guide already, which prompted me to take a fundamentals in math class last semester. I'm still totally freaked out by it.... Hi everyone! I just registered with allnurses.com, I am an aspiring nursing student who is currently working on my general education classes in hopes to take the pre-entrance exam next year.... After doing some lurking around the board, I was wondering if there is anyone attending Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, MO or any other community college. It seems a lot of the members are involved in programs with a lot of pre-reqs and classes that I myself are not required to take(at least I hope!). As I'm sure all of you know that this nursing school thing can be a very scary place, just wanted to touch base with some people going through the same motions...Thanks!
