Ok so I am taking my sunscreen and am going to be happy to not put on layers upon layers of clothes to step outside!!! Also, it sounds like there is a lot to see in and around Tucson so I will definately get out there and explore! I have my car and my dogs so I am sure we will keep busy! Thanks again everyone and if I can just get through these next two weeks of packing and scheduling and paperwork and planning... I'll be great!!!

Got my first travling job!!!!
Hi all! I don't post much on the forum but have read a lot of advice and thoughts from everyone about traveling and just want to say 'THANKS'!! I just accepted a CVOR/OR job in Tucson, AZ at University Medical Center!! I am super excited and scared as well! I know it will be a great experience and I will learn a lot! I have never been to Tucson before so if anyone has been there and has any cool places to go or things to do/see let me know!! Also, any other helpful tips are always welcome. And if anyone is swinging through Tucson or knows anyone that works as a traveler in the area and might want to go for coffee or a movie or something, well that would be awesome too! Thanks again for the great posts that have been super helpful!!

OR oreintation and contracts??
Hi! The hospital in Boise I work at hired me as a new OR RN from med/surg. They put me and others through the AORN "Peri-op 101" clas that was 4-6 weeks. It was hands on and bookwork training so we could be ready for the OR (then we were sent into orientation for about 4 months before I was on my own in a case). Upon being hired I did have to sign a 2 year contract saying I would stay in a perioperative setting but if I do not make it the two years I have to pay back the AORN periop class fees. The fees started at $5000 and about $200 is taken off for each month I work FT in the OR. But yikes! It sounds like you are paying a ridiculous amount back and being expected to remain at the hospital for ever . I hope you get that worked out! Good luck!!

American Mobile
A co-worker of mine worked for them a few years back and she liked them. I talked to her recruiter and liked her a lot. She seemed excited to hear from me and had a lot of interesting travel possibilities. I have since been forced to talk to two other people who insist I have to talk to them so they can put my profile together and send it to the recruiter even though I told them I had already talked to a recruiter!! One lady tells me in an e-mail "you have to understand, it is pertinent you call me back immediately if you even wan to be considered to travel for this company". It really made me shun away from them even though I really liked the recruiter. I even told the recruiter about it and she swore that I would be working only with her. Then that same day the other, rude, pushy lady called again. So I think the recruiter is great but the tactics of the company trying to get travelers does not sit well with me. Also I am coming to the conclusion that everyone has thier opinion and maybe we will just know what company to go with on a gut feeling one day? I did do a search on this forum for American Mobile and did not find many positive things- once again, a lot of opinion. But I am also forming my opinion and I am pretty sure I will not be traveling with them...

BEEBE Hospital - Any info greatly appreciated
Hi Sandy*B! I am also a CVOR nurse and am looking to travel very soon. I don't know how to work the PM thing but I was wondering if you have been traveling long and how it works for the OR and if you have any cool places you have gone. Also, who do you work with? I can't decide on a company. It seems some companies have more CVOR positions than others. Anyway, any info or help would be greatly apprecited! Thanks so much!

Contract tips
Hi! I am also very new to this forum and farily new to nursing (3 yrs experience). I am wanting to start traveling very soon and have been in contact with numerous companies. I have reasearched their websites and talked with recruiters. I have given them my background and told them the exact places I would like to travel to for starters as well as some of my other requirements for working with them (nicely and in an asking, non-demanding manner). It is the actually company and what pay packages are best that is bothering me. I hear a lot about "tax advantage" as well as "all-inclusive" I posted on the general page and listed the companies I was thinking about. I will list them again and if anyone has any input or additional advice I would really appreciate it so I can make the best judgment and get on assignment! On call pay
I work for a CVOR and am on call 3-4 nights a week after my normal 8hr shift. We get $3/hr and have to be in the hospital and dressed and ready to go in OR scrubs within 30 mins! I live 18 miles away and can't even mow my yard or walk my dogs when I am on call because I never know how bad traffic will be or whatever! It is insane and I hate it most of the time. We also get 1 1/2 pay when we get called in plus the $3/hr while we are at the hospital. Sometimes, the experience is great and I enjoy call but most of the time it is stressful and I can't do anything (even sleep sometimes) because of worrying about call. And in my opinion the 1 1/2 pay doesn't make up for the hinderance or stress.
