Know of a good Nursing Care Plan book and stethoscope?
i use the nursing diagnosis handbook by mosby. it's the eigth edition. i have used it for all my careplans so far and i really like it. for the stethoscope i purchased a littman, and have also been pleased with it. hope this helps.

How do you handle all 'other' responsibilites while in nursing school??
yes, i feel the same way. i have 2 children, ages 6 and 8 and i feel like i am constantly putting them on the backburner. school has really taken over my life. i just recently found out that i am expecting my third child, and i have been so exhausted! not to mention going to school 3 days a week and clinicals 2 days a week. i have no time to study or clean my house or spend time with my family. it's very frustrating!
-
How have your skill checkoffs been??
had my first skills check-off this week. we were checked off on vitals signs, pre and postoperative care, hemovac drains and jackson-pratt drains, sterile dressing change... it was nerve racking for me too, i passed everything!!! the next skills check off is catheters. should be fun. we also started working on how to do care plans today.

I just HAVE to tell everybody!
I wish I could do IV's. My school dosent allow us to do that. Congratulations!!!!
-
What do you have to wear to school?
on class and lab days we wear regular clothes. when we start our clinicals we wear uniforms. our tops are white with college logo on them, and our pants are royal blue.

For those of you who started Aug. 25
i also started on aug 25th, and my first couple of weeks have definately been hectic. we have 2 quiz's a week. i scored 100 on first quiz, and on my med term quiz i scored 96. this week, i have 3 tests. i have a test in a&p, nursing, med term. also we test out on our clinicals, which is bed baths, making an occupied bed, handwashing, rom, proper alignment.... i'm nervous about the clinical tests. we practiced on our classmates yesterday, and i forgot to do a lot of things. so far, it hasnt been that bad. but i know the worst is yet to come. hang in there everyone. the hard work will pay off!!!

ATI testing
we are also required to do ati testing. if we dont pass, we get another chance, if we dont pass that time, we do remediation, and if we dont pass a third time, we're out!!! havnet gotten my books yet, so i cant tell you what i think of them!

two exams down, only a million more to go!!!!
lpn school for me has been crazy. i'm at the end of my first week, and it's 11:00 p.m. and i'm still up doing homework. i feel completely overwhelmed. i'm taking 18 credits which equals to 3 classes. i have between 5-10 chapters to read just for nursing a week. that dosent include at least 2 chapters for psch and 1 chapter for a&p. i keep thinking....when do i graduate again???

Nervous about work + school + family!
i know how you feel...i also start lpn school on monday, and so do my kids. my daughter will be starting 1st grade, and my son will be in 2nd. i am so nervous that i have been breaking out into hives for the last 2 weeks. not to mention i have a husband at home with a severe case of bell's palsy. i have been taking care of him and trying to get everything done before we all start back to school. i already have homework, and i'm stressing over that. i think tonight i will have a big glass of wine, sit back and relax and try to enjoy the ride!:wink2:

It's almost here!!! Anyone else start on Monday?
i start on the 25th as well, although i have already been given homework. my professor sent a letter stating what we should expect on the first day and assigned 5 chapters to read in one book, with corresponding workbook pages to complete and 2 chapters in medical terminology. i'm already getting a taste of what school will be like!
