Leaving Excelsior program
Happened to stumble upon your post and as I was reading it I thought you were going to say you were quitting altogether... I am so happy that not only are you going to continue, but that you will be in a classroom with peers, because it sounds like you definitely need some "ME" time! Good luck to you. I sincerely hope you still don't feel that you failed. I can "hear" the excitement in your post and I wish you the best.

Thanks Studionurse! I feel the same way you feel, would rather go to County... but I'm right at that cutoff so if I don't make it I need to have a backup plan.

I've been reading some old posts from people who applied (and got accepted) in 2010 and earlier... some of these posts said they found out they got accepted via a PHONE CALL! Does anyone know anything about this? Phone call, letter, email, I don't care, just tell me already!

Passed CHPLN Certification Exam!!!
Taking the test tomorrow and studying right now... I took it last year and failed by three measly questions. And yes, I remember thinking "there has to be a mistake, they gave me the RN test!" Actually, there were some questions where I thought they gave me the physician test! Hoping I do well tomorrow... I need this, my company will reimburse me the cost of the test and I get a dollar raise (yay)... money is money!!

Anyone apply for LVN-RN summer enrty at LA County College of Nursing?
Hi, did you already take the TEAS? At the test we were told that LVN-RN's would find out by mid-April. Good luck!

Any of you LPNs bridging to RN in your very late 40s
45 here and just submitted my application for an LVN-RN program! When I made a career change at 42 and went for my LVN, I told myself I would stop at my RN. Now that I'm used to juggling this chaotic life of work and studying and family, I think I may just go for my BSN!

Biology 20 at LA Southwest College
I didn't take the combined class, but I did have Haas for Physiology (by itself) last Fall and he was awesome. Really broke down the material so you could understand it. Probably one of the best instructors I've had so far!

At Last!
So it's almost 2am and I can't sleep because.... I start my first nursing job today! I took my NCLEX last November, passed, got my license... and then found out how hard it was for a new grad to get a job. I was literally driving all over the Los Angeles area filling out applications at any hospital, SNF and home health agency I could find! In April I gave up and found a regular clerical job, which I was very greatful for. But it wasn't nursing... By a stroke of luck I saw an opening for a rep for a home health agency. I applied, got an interview, and the first thing the interviewer says... why didn't you apply for our LVN position? Well, I didn't know you had one available! Fast-forward a couple more interviews and here I am, ready to start... in seven hours! I just checked my profile here on this site and my very first post, two months after I started LVN school, was in July 2008. I'm extremely excited but also extremely nervous because I feel like it's been forever since I've been in clinicals. Well, this is what I've been preparing for. All I can say is... AT LAST! P.S. I think I'm gonna start giggling the first time I sign my name with my credentials "LVN"!!!

Lvn to RN bridge at SJVC?
$32,000 may seem like a lot, but for an RN program it's one of the best priced private school programs I've heard of. Some schools are charging $29K for an LVN program! I would do it if I lived closer.

Microbiology 1 or 20?
I've got a question directed towards students who are in any of the Los Angeles Community Colleges: Did you take Micro 1 or Micro 20? Microbiology 1 is Introductory Microbiology and is FIVE units. Microbiology 20 is General Microbiology and is FOUR units. Of course I would rather take Micro 20 but I'm confused because some schools want one, some want the other, some don't care.... which one do I take so that there won't be a problem when it comes time to fill out applications for the RN program?

Can I take my LPN board exam at a different state?
My friend just took her NCLEX last month in another state. We graduated from an LVN program here in California, then she moved to Texas. She ended up taking her test at a Pearson-Vue in Waco. BUT, her results were sent to the California Board. She then plans on applying for endorsement. Do you want your results sent to the Texas Board or Nebraska Board? Like Nerilene said, check with your school. I don't think it's a matter of where you take it, but where the results will be sent.

help me KEEP my license plz?...
Diane, thank you so much for taking the time to share that sample letter with us! I hope I may never need it, but if I do, I'll know where to go!

LVN to RN (Los Angeles)
Before you even start thinking about the nursing program, you need to get the pre-reqs out of the way, like physiology, anatomy and microbiology, plus other general ed classes. Since school is starting pretty soon, you might want to start checking out availability. The classes at a lot of schools have already filled up. I'm going to LA Southwest College (off the 105 fwy) for Physiology, Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 6:30 and last I heard there was still room!

LVN to RN (Los Angeles)
@caffeineaddict: congratulations on getting into LAHC! Cool, I'm an LVN too and I was wondering what my odds were of getting into an RN program. Good to know there was no wait for you! @tobyboy: If you're in downtown L.A., have you looked at LA Trade Tech? They have a "Career Ladder" from LVN to RN. Go to www.lattc.edu There's also the LA County College of Nursing and Allied Health. They are near the USC Medical Center and have "Advanced Placement" for LVNs. Los Angeles Southwest College
I'm enrolled to take my first science course at LASC. Sure it's not the BEST area but just to get into a physiology or microbiology class anywhere in L.A. is hard because they fill up so fast! I kinda feel that way about the nursing program too... I just want to get in ANYWHERE, finish up and get my RN. I had no idea that hospitals care that much about what school you came from...

I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's awesome, congratulations!! Your post actually made me feel a little bit relieved that maybe it's not going to take an eternity to get accepted. I just got my LVN license a couple weeks ago. I am still doing my pre-reqs, but it's good to hear that it might not be so difficult to get in!
