Hello Shighsmith, I am an Army nurse corp officer and was stationed in Daegu and Yongsan 2010-2011. With your background and experience it shouldn't be an issue getting stationed in Korea as a matter of fact they would love to have your level of expertise. What you want to make sure is that you are able to get command sponsorship for your family. Slotting for CSP is not the same throughout the different areas. I was in Area 4 and was unable to get my family CSP due to the lack of infrastructure. It was a big issue that year. They now have a better system. In addition Korea continues to be a one year assignment. Unless you are in a key development position(you're not) you are on one year assignment however when you arrive you can AIP(Assignment incentive pay) which means when you arrive into country you sign a contract that guarantees you another year(pending command approval) and you receive an extra 250 a month.As mentioned before the only way for your orders to guarantee you two years, you will have to have an approved CSP. I would recommend that if you are asking for Korea, you make sure that you start your CSP paperwork. It will eliminate any undue stress. If you go on the ROK website they should have some updated information. Hope this helps!

Ebony... I enjoy being a nurse. Your first year as a med-surge nurse is challenging, but you learn so much. You will be working shifts, but you will have time to spend with your family. Depending on where you work,You are able to self-schedule. When you go to school for an AOC, you will function in the new AOC. I had ten choices and I ended up getting my second choice, which was Fort Gordon, GA. It is a Medical Center(MEDCEN). Take your time. Nursing school willbe challenging. but apply yourself and ask for help when needed. Do have a study group unless you study best by yourself. Good luck to you!

Hello, For three years I lived in Hampton and commuted to ODU, and did some clinicals @ Norfolk General .It really isn't bad. I would leave anywhere b/w 0545-0600. and that got me there @ a decent time.I would recommend that you leave @0530. no later than 0545. especially on your first day. Congratualtions on your job.

Hello, I too did the AECP. I was already on Active duty when I signed up. I believe it is the best program out there. I was paid my rank for the two years I attended. I graduated in 2007. Your first year as an army nurse will be the most challenging but yet rewarding. You will be placed in a Medical Center and work on a Med-Surg floor for @ least 6mos to a year before specializing. I have been @ my duty station for 20months and now am getting ready to go to public health course. I cannot speak for every army installation nor the unit that you may be assigned to . They give you ten choices to choose. So make sure you are in agreeance with every choice you put down. You will not deploy until you at least have a solid med-surg background. For the most part they want expereinced nurses in Iraq/Afghanistan. Deployment for nurses are only 6months. Hope this helps.

Lucky you. I wish you a safe trip there. I had to buy all the ACU's becasue When I was in the program I was still wearing BDU's. I did have my dress blues and PT's. Hello CurlyRN, I will be a 66H soon. And I eventually would like to go for the Army public health nursing. All I know about this from researching is the school is located in Kentuck and its a 16 week course(I believe). It used to be called communiyt health nursing but they have changed their names. If you go to Army public Health Nursing, the website should pop up. Hope this helped.

Hi Off and Running,I would definitely check on getting your orders cahnged. It shouldn't be an issue. As far as being a nurse at Fort Eustis I 've heard its slow. At one point they were going to completely stop sending Army nurses there but that has not stopped. Depending on what you are trying to do, you will definitely have time to work another Job. Now as far as scheduling I have not a clue. I have a friend that used to work at Fort Eustis I can ask him. I hope all works for you. When are you driving down to Fort Sam? I'll be there Wednesday to get my room and transition out and then get commissioned.

Hello Off and Running. I graduated from Central Texas College 4 years ago. I am going to be stationed in Fort Gordon, Georgia which is in Augusta. My husbands grandparents stay 20 minutes from the post and they will be the ones watching over our children. I was orignally going to Fort bliss, tx but got it changed last week. Thats awkward that they did not try to get you stationed in Fort eustis. I know they said they wouldnt send brand new nurses there but in the Army there is always an exception to the rule. I know of a female getting stationed there because her husband is there. My family will still be here while im at school. so I will be returning to Fort Monroe to get ready to leave again.

Hello JD OBLC will start on August 3rd till the 22nd of September, Then after that We will go into the Nurse Track and that will be for two weks which will carry us into the 6th of October. It is usually during Nurse track that most people will know where they are going and what area in the hospital they will be working in. Hope I answered your question.

Hey, I live in Hampton on Fort Monroe. We're right next to each other. Fort Lee is located in Richmond and its a small but nice post. You're lucky, However there is no big Medical Center there it is only maybe a couple of clinics and a Community Hospital. The only thing about being a brand new nurse and being stationed in bases like that is that you wont see much. But who knows times have changed so perhaps you will and depending in what area you work in. So what school did you graduate from. I graduated from ODU back in December, I finally passed my Boards. Fort Lee is the home base for Supply clerks , Cooks.Hope to hear from you.

First and foremost I would like to thank everyone in this website. Each and every one of you have helped me in so many ways. Yesterday I took my NCLEX for the third time with 75 questions. I found out today that i PASSED. I am so excited i don't know what to do with myself. I have been out of school since December and haven't stopped studying since then. I initially started with KAPLAN because that was everyones recommendation. Had i known that there were other review courses I probably would have definitely done content review first. Nevetheless I took Hurst review and it enlightened me so much because it broke every content down to the basic levels and gave you the reason behind every disease process. Hurst review along with kaplan helped me this time. Because I finally had my content down and Kaplan questions mirror the NCLEX. Only kaplan is a bit harder but it does help you critically think. I had 3 SATA, 2 mcg/kg/min questions. several priority and delegations. Definitely know your Endocrine such as Addisons, cushings, I had one question on Multiple sclerosis. Thanks to all of you in allnurses.com. This website is definitely on time. One thing I cannot forget that helped me push through was my faith in GOD because without him I would have given up. But I love nursing and I knew in my heart that this was my purpose, passion and calling. I am defintiely keeping those of you in prayer who are taking it soon. Once again thanks.

Hello runnerbe. As far as where your number stopped i can't tell u what that means because to me the NCLEX is so complex and i can't figure it out. I have taken it before and I am taking for my third time in two weeks. I would like to tell you to keep the faith. As you wait these next couple of weeks put your trust in God and know that he has your back. Try not to beat your self or let anxiety get the best of you. Hi, I live in Virginia too. I have taken the nclex before and waitng to take it the 7th. I know if you call the virginia board of nursing they will give you an unofficial result. You can also look on the virginia board of nursing website and type your information and should be able to see you license number.

Hi sonia, this is so encouraging for me because I will be taking my nclex for the third time on the 7th of july. I appreciate your detail plan. I am currently doing hurst review and kaplan with alittle of saunders. I don't wnat to be studying form every book because then I will feel like i'm going in circles. I have been weak in content so hurst review is helping me with that and I like kaplan questiosn because it mimics the actual NCLEX . I am just praying to GOD believing that this is it. How did you feel after leaving the testing center. Once again thanks so much this is encouraging.
