best units to gain experience on before CRNA school
I am a new graduate who is contemplating becoming a CRNA in the future. I have an interest in :redbeathecardiac nursing and will begin working on a cardiac step down unit in Noroflk,Va. I hope to advance to the CVICU when the time is right but I wanted to hear from SRNA's who are living the dream... where did you gain your ICU experience? Is the CVICU what schools want? Thanks so much in advance because I know you all have very busy schedules.

Commuting to Norfolk from Hampton
I just accepted a position at Sentara Norfolk General Heart Hospital as a new graduate and I am so excited to start working in July:yeah: but I have one concern! I live in Hampton,Va and hope to stay at home and save money as a new grad but I am worried about the commute through the tunnel 3 days a week. I am working day shift and wondered how early to leave for work, etc? Does anyone have experience commuting through the tunnel from Hampton to Norfolk:confused:? Is saving money by living at home worth the commute and the traffic? If anyone has any tips or personal advice I would love your input. If I can avoid getting an apartment in Norfolk I would love to do that (no need to spend money right). Thanks so much.

New Grad on Cardiac/Stepdown Floor
Congrats to the new graduates starting in cardiac nursing. I have two interviews Monday... one for a cardiac stepdown unit at Sentara :redbeathe Hospital and the other for telemetry at Virginia Beach General. For those of you who landed cardiac jobs as new grads do you have any advice to offer for the interview process? Are there any things I should mention, focus on, or make sure that I talk about in order to land the job. If you have any pieces of advice please share your tips, they are greatly appreciated. Riverside Regional- Hampton Roads VA
I am interested in working at Riverside Regional and I graduate in May and am currently on the job hunt. I got an email from HR to schedule a phone interview for the month of March or April but I am not sure what will come from it because there aren't very many new graduate jobs posted on the website right now. It is supposed to be good for 1 year but I wanted to know from the new grads employed there how soon you heard back from them after applying. Did you have face to face interviews with nurse managers/ HR or phone interviews? Any advice for the interviews process? I would like to work at Riverside and would love any help :).

Tips for getting into ICU as a new grad?
I have a question about working as an ICU nurse tech before graduating from an undergrad program. I am graduating in May of '10 and want to work in the ICU so badly. This summer I have been working as a floating nurse assistant (tech same thing i guess) and I have floated to the ICU a few times to work 12 hour shifts. I fell in love with the environment and the close attention nurses paid to their patients due to the acuity and low patient: nurse ratio. I also will be completing a capstone or preceptorship this spring for class credit adn I hope to be placed in the ICU. The program is 2 months in duration which isn't long but hey its something. Anywhoo... are my few floats through the ICU and my 2 month preceptorship enough to make a competitive candidate in an interview for a new grad residency or internship. Offer up anything else I can do to make myself a competitive candidate and hopefully an ICU nurse.

New Grad starting off in ICU
Congrats to all of the new grads that are starting out in the ICU. I know this is sort of off topic but I was wondering if you all had any tips to share about your interview process for the ICU? Did anyoen get an ICU job without previous experience because alot of the posts talk about being an ICU tech. I work as a nursing assistant at Sentara in the float pool and I have rotated into the ICU a few times but I wasn't strictly there. Will this help? I also plan to do my capstone (preceptorship some call it) in the ICU this spring as class credit. It is only 2 months but will this look good for me to have? Did anyone do anything else that they felt helped them to land an ICU job as a new grad. Please offer any help because I am a graduating senior this May and I want so badly to start out in the ICU becuse the days that I worked on the floor as the tech I enjoyed it so much. OFfer any advice or help... it is greatly appreciated.

interview @whc
the interview process sounds so intimidating... any adivce on how to prepare for the interview, if at all possible? you would think that the answers would come naturally but being nervous about getting hired especially in today's economy and being put on the spot could take the words right out of your mouth. I am hoping to interview with WHC this year as I will graduate in May. Any interview tips if I was to get offered an interview (MICU or SICU especially)

Washington Hospital Center Fellowship
ukstudent you were very helpful... thanks so much! I am graduating this May and am planninng to attend a Dream Day session either this December or early next year. I am so nervous about the interview process because I wouldn't want the interviewer to feel that I am not a critical thinker... AHHH. Anyway do you recommend going early or closer to graduation toa dream day? Do job offers depend on the time of year that you go? Any advice would be helpful.

Lisences in DC, MD or VA
I go to school in Virginia and I am hoping to either move to MD or the DC area. If I get licensed in VA how much does the endorsement cost? or will I have to get a new license. If I was to get licensed in MD or DC after I change my residence will I have to retake the exam or just pay a fine. AHHHH this is confusing. What should I do? HELP!
