What is Wrong With This Picture?
Thankyou for being honest..I know the thread was mainly about the treatment of both the male and female inmates but It hurts me to see a city of police, doctors, lawyers, judges, etc. "soOOO into SU" and its players ( who are mainly black BTW) and I stop and think "If they weren't SU BBALL players would you invite them to eat at your dinner table? I getting out of this H**l hole as soon as I get a couple months of expericence. I know where I want to go and my mother is also looking forward to going. It must have crossed her mind about how depressed ppl are here and ignorant. Your friend made the best move ever by just leaving Syracuse. I know she probably doesnt look forward to ever coming back. So I've heard over and over again from many ppl . Best of Luck!

What is Wrong With This Picture?
I live very near by syracuse and all I have to say is SYRACUSE IS NOT A GREAT PLACE AT ALL. Racism is very big issue whether male or female. Im a young black female ( born and raised )who graduated as an Lpn last year and i have expericenced this personally. I hate, hate ,hate Syracuse. The police officers here harrass everyone that lives in the city of Syracuse and harass everyone who's from the city and goes through the suburbs. I noticed when I was alittle younger ( teens)that when I was pullled over by " SYRACUSE'S FINEST"I was spoken to as if I was unintelligent and an older adult. Syracuse has a very bad name for itself and everyone tries to cover it up with SU and the new mall their trying to bulid "to create jobs" please. My mom and I fear for my younger brother who is a young black male. He's quiet and intelligent but he has also experienced rasicm at a very young age. I feel like im growing up back in the era my mom did and its very scary. My mom use to support Syracuse Police by giving donations when they sent out envelops in the mail and I use to get so mad at her but she always had a big heart. But in my eyes these were the say men and women that harrassed her son, daughter, and her. Im leaving as soon as possible. That nurse needs her license suspended without a doubt. That was a very disgusting assesment/judgement whatever made on her part. I know what that man did was'nt right what so ever but nobody, nobody deserves to be in pain throughout a trial w/ a judge. Medical 1st. He was cleary in pain. And if they were so afraid that he was a threat, they could have sedated him. Come On Now!!!!!! ,

Took My Exam!! Yay
I studied from saunders comp. review, examcram, youtube videos on diseases and kaplan (Rn from the library, they didnt have pn) and did some online questions. I think the most helpful was the saunders comp review I used the cd that came with the book. I kept reviewing the rationeles that I got wrong and right. I really drilled everything in my head. Oh and also watching Nurse Jackie LOL!!!! (Just kidding).

Took My Exam!! Yay
I had alot of SATA, a couple meds and priorty questions. I hope I did well because I checked two of the meds I wasnt sure about and got them wrong but those were the two I didnt remember. But I hope Im okay. I studied alot of peds b/c we really didnt have alot of time in school to learn it ( due to our graduation being moved up) and went over cardiac and diseases. I didnt due to many meds i kinda wished I did but i focused more so on my weak area's.

Took My Exam!! Yay
Okay.. I took my exam this morning and I have to say I was very calm compared to other test (in school). I got there early and it was just four ppl. I was happy about that. I took my time and prayed before testing. I studied for a few months to make sure I understood major and minor content. I stopped at 95 q's i was alittle nervous because i was only there for a hour and half so I was wondering if i was giving myself enough time but in the long run I feel pretty good. Im so glad that i didnt move my test date back i probably would have had a harder test. I hope and pray I passed. Goodluck to everyone getting ready for the exam and study and review until your comfortable. I'll keep you posted.

Nurses, are you glad that Obamas Healthcare Bill Passed?
I would hope someone would come to the Ed if "they" thought "they" had a possible STD ( esp.if there is no pcp). But it sounds like your being more specific about the type of person that comes to your Ed for any of these problems. As a nurse, I wouldnt make judgement on anyone who steps in to the hospital for help regardless if its something small or not. Regardless of fake nails, gucci bag, " Draped in gold", cell phone ( which almost everyone has BTW). Just maybe someone will not have a payment at the time of service( I dont remember payment arrangements in any of my nursing curriculum) Your suppose to be an Advocate for your patients and Not a Critic. *Sincerely, A Nurse*

Nurses, are you glad that Obamas Healthcare Bill Passed?
I strongly disagree. I voted Yes. The US is one of the riches countries despite the finiacial issues that have occured. There is no poor, middle class, and upper class anymore. There's just rich and poor. And those who do work wheter F/T or P/T are paying deductibles that are that are sky high. There's families out there that have experienced lay off's and PINK SLIPS, that need assistance for a mother/father or grandparent. Theres famlies out there that have children with debillitating diseases that work day & night and still dont have enough. Single mothers/ fathers that hope and pray that a burden is "Lifted of them". So I comend all the Families out there for workin hard during this time in struggle. I hope others open their eyes and stop being selfish and give something else a try for ONCE! Sick=Help

I Need help studying Saunders review book for LPN!
Right now im studing both the book and the cd rom. While at work on my overnights ( which i am right now ) I start off with a study session on the cd rom and then towards the end of my shift I read about one or two chapters. Now this works for me because I start to get alittle bored study one thing all night. So you may want to give yourself different methods of studing. I know some ppl start off with subjects that were hardest for them in school and that works too, it helps you clarify things alittle better. Hope this helps and Goodluck.( Im hoping to take my boards in feburary too and get it over with)

LPN starting pay $26.50!
$29,000 is way to much for a for an Lpn program. I paid $7400 for my lpn program, I would check with your local community college for an Rn program because thats way to much. Goodluck though

Calling all geriatric nurses!! Need help!
I recently purchased an LPN quick reference guide notebook ( The size of an index card ) that you can easily put in your lab coat. It's definetly helpful when you have forgotten something or just need reassurance for. I brought at barnes and nobles it was about $25, but its worth it. Goodluck

Backpack or Rollerbag?
Definetly A Roller bookbag..more than likely you'll have modules, textbooks, (I have like 4 big binders). So to be on the safe side stick to the rollerbag. Towards the end of the year you can use a backpack. Good Luck:up:

Nasty LPNS AND RNS TO STUDENTS
I'M NO LONGER IN THAT ROTATION!! I made a mistake during this one rotation. FYI I have 4 great eval's ( including this one) , so none my instructors have a problem with me. To be quite honest this topic was more of a venting cession for me. Regardless if people agree with me or not there has been some point as a nursing student when you have made a mistake, So just take my topic as a reminder that the way your gratitude and influence (whether good or bad) It is observed. It's done n over with im on to my last rotation and graduation is around the corner..Thanku for your in put but I'll take it from here. See Yea *Coming To A Town Near You* LOL:dncgcpd::stdnrsrck:

Nasty LPNS AND RNS TO STUDENTS
First in foremost im not offended by n e thing you wrote. Cause you dont even have your facts straight:confused:, N you got it all twisted. I stated that "my instructor had to show me WHERE on the syrine the morphine was " Which is his job not her's. I dont expect any bad attitude or burnout nurse to show me nothin. N your right, all those nurses do for me is just demonstrate what I wont be. I dont know if some nurses THINK ITS CUTE TO BE NASTY OR WHAT BUT I'LL TELL U THIS, IMA CHANGE THAT *REAL QUICK*cause i can play that role with them too..thanks for your "INPUT" BUT IM NOT THE 1. Later!!:thankya: GOODLUCK TO MY FELLOW STUDENT NURSES. Expect the mind set that was written to me from "Some nurses"

Nasty LPNS AND RNS TO STUDENTS
I'm an lpn student who will graduating in november of 09. I was just wondering how other lpn or lvn students dealt with cruel nurses during clinical rotation. Just recently i was on the floor and i had a pt that lost a parent in icu at the same time she was in the hospital. When she(my patient) returned from seeing her parent, she was crying and upset. I comforted her until she calmed down (i was on the verge of crying with her). I gave her a moment with her other family member and she stated to me that her morphine (pca) was beeping early in icu and she thought she was out so i told her that i would let her nurse know. So i seen that her nurse was running around like crazy due to a couple of her patients so i stopped her and told her what my patient told me. She said okay and continued what she was doing. I sat and waited for my patients family member to leave so i could ask her if she needed a new gone or anything. My pt's nurses came out of the med room and went straight to my pt's room. ALL of a sudden she comes out saying (almost yelling) " A WASTE OF MORPHINE!" The pt heard her i know because i apologized to the patient for me misunderstanding her but the pt said the nurse had the attitude and it was ok. Another student followed her back into the med room and asked if she needed any help and she said " NO, YOU GUYS WILL JUST MAKE MORE WORK FOR ME". She gave me the EVIL EYE for the rest of the night. Now i do know it was my mystake for not checking (my instructor actually had to show me where on the pca in the syringe where it was) But dont u think her reaction was alittle to much? IM A STUDENT AND STILL LEARNING AND AT ONE TIME SHE WAS TOO! SHE JUST TAUGHT ME TO DOUBLE CHECK WORK WHICH SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE

Terrified of Graduating
Well idk where yall are from but in Upstate Ny, yes the nursing homes are slow to me. I definitely don't think that your at a higher risk of losing your license in a Nursing Home versus a Hospital were they can change charts or Mar's every second. And yes your suppose to double check everything but if your not a time-managing person things can get crazy. Im sure theres plenty of students that use their time correctly and STILL get behind. So once again I would go to LTC rather than a hospital straight out of school. If your confident with working in a hospital by all means go ahead in do it. But i know im getting more experience before entering those people hospital. Just thinkn logic:idea:.Later

Terrified of Graduating
I graduate soon as well so i know exactly how you feel. I think I'd like to work in a nursing home to get a feel for things before i jump into a hospital. The nursing home is slow pace but I know it'll build up my confidence for a fast pace job. Good luck!!!!!!!

New Lpn Student...Any Help Will Do!!!
Lpn school is time demanding and can be alittle tough at times.I will be graduating in a couple of months and i also work full time. My best advice is to make any time possible to study atleast 2 to 3 hours. As the program progresses you'll adapt to the speed of the program. I come to school about an hour early to study for a test that will be on that day. So i hope i helped a little bit. Just stay focus. Good Luck!!
