Title. I started GI as a FNP and am working clinic but eventually will work at the hospital and will be rounding on patients as well. I got a standard notebook for notes and just got a tarascon pharmacy guide and wanted to see what other recommendations everyone else had.

I recently accepted a position and will be at a hospital and a clinic. How does applying for my DEA work for this?

I countered and got a little more and a accepted the offer, I feel like building my resume is important right now.

At this point I’m wondering if I should take it because I haven’t gotten anything else as far as offers.

I graduated in May 2018. I took my FNP exam in august and passed and it took me until October to get my Texas License and I moved to Lubbock in January to be with my boyfriend. Ive applied to several jobs here and mostly hit a roadblock due most wanting the acute care NP certification. In TN if you got the FNP cert you would be fine and could work anywhere in the area I was at. I have gotten two interviews since I was here. This second one I got. the offer for is GI, with part of it doing rounding in the hospital and then the other part working in the clinic. the clinic is owned by one doctor and I will be the second NP to work there. I got called back today and got the job offer as follows. 90k a year 1 weekend of call a month health insurance 401k after one year no money for CMEs 2 weeks PTO a year I feel like this is a lowball offer, but am unsure, at this point I may take it because ive been out a year with no work. Opinions?

This just depends where you are at, in my area of TN all of the NPs that work in hospitals are FNPs, they received on the job training.Even the Np working for the ICU is a FNP who does central lines, intubations, etc because the hospital trained her. In the end the wording is so equivocal as to what NPs can do its really up to the hospital to decide what we can and cannot do. At the local VA, the hospitalist are also FNPs.

Honestly part to the reason so many people do go back to NP school is the lack of wage increases for nursing. In the northeast TN area, wages for nurses are horrible. I started at $18 when I finished in 2009.

It seems to me that the issue is it makes it harder for them to find work and then they use education as a reason to justify their feelings on their own hardship.

I highly doubt that you would make less since the VA operated on NURSE levels and you can't get to a 3-5 unless you have a masters or doctorate. You can get a level 3 with a BSN but usually have to do system wide changes. Its' also impossible to move down a step, So I find it highly unlikely you would make less.

Thanks everyone, it went really well. No science questions were asked. I will hear this week from them. I think they are looking for something else but we will see. They asked if I had ever worked in an ICU as a nurse and I felt like that was kind of a hint they were not looking for my type of background even though the job wanted someone with lots of ER experience. We will see though, either way it was a wonderful way to get my feet wet as far as interviews go.

Those are good points. Did you get any scenario questions or science related questions when you did interviews? Sort of like test questions.

I graduated in May 2018 with my masters with FNP concentration and have my first interview this Friday the 15th. I only recently started searching for work due to several factors. I am wanting advice on what can be asked of me. The position I am applying for is to work for the trauma team, which consists of surgeons. The posting wanted nurses with a strong ER background and 9 out of 10 of my years as a nurse has been in the ER. Any tips would be helpful and any questions you can provide me that you have been asked will help me prepare as well. The thing I am not looking for is comments about how I will be an FNP and not a AGACNP working with trauma. I am not asking for nurse bots to give me a lecture about that . Thank you.

The area I lived at in Tennessee mostly hired FNPs, the acute care NP thing hasn't caught on yet and almost all the internists were FNPs as well.

Damn that is low for San Diego. I can make 100K starting out in Tennessee in an area where you can buy a nice house for 150k.

Where I live at, working for the government was a sweet gig.

I was wondering if anyone has worked for the VA as a NP before and if so were you REQUIRED to have the APN license of the state that the VA was located in. IE: if in California did you have to have a California APN license or was any APN license good?
