How Will Universal Health Care Change Nursing?
Recently, last week, when president Obama addressed the AMA he made a statement that there are a number of countries who have Universal Health Care aka socialized medicine, where the system worked very well, but he never went on to name any. I wrote to my Congressman (Ron Klein, D-Fl) and asked him to name some. He hasn't responded. There won't be any named, because there aren't any. I agree there is a problem with our current practices and programs but socialized medicine is not the answer. Don't fool yourselves and think Obama's plan is not socialized medicine. The more you look at the government's in volvement in our public, let alone private lives the more the book 1984 comes true. First the banks, the bailout is a joke, then the auto industry, the government has a contolling interest in GM. Thank God for Ford. Now the FDA is going after Cheerio's . What next??????????? The number of children we're allowed to have. Why are there so many Canadian nurses working in the US??? Sure someone can quote me chapter and verse how great the proposed health plan is but the bottom line is "Who is going to pay for it?????"

The future of Nurses in Obama's Health Plan
Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I have seen very little comment or concern re Obama's plan for health care by Nursing. The AMA has issued their position and they want a say in the plan. What about us???? We're busy talking about local topics but how does the new health plan affect us, Nursing, the future of nursing, and the care of patients in the future. I've been in the field over 30 years and am retiring soon but what about the new kids and their futures

What a terrible way to start off the new year
I'm 57 years old and have been a nurse over 30 years. I'm older than most nurses and I've been a nurse longer than most nurses have been alive. I wouldn't change it for the world...
- What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?

Enraged (venting)
I give you all the credit in the world for maintaining your cool. I've been doing this for 34 years and it's just been recently that I was punched in the face, head, and chest by a Baker Act patient. I maintained my cool as we restrained him but when I got off shift my Harley took a beating and my German Shepard got a great walk.

Hershey's Chocolate moving to Mexico affects all ER nurses
Setting aside the fact that most ER nurses like chocolate, the Hershey's chocolate company has decided to close all its American and Canadian factories and relocate to Mexico, laying off thosands of American workers. Do all of the ER nurses realize what this means? The more layoffs, the more unemployed; the more unemployeyed, the more people without health insurance; the more people without health insurance , the more ER visits as a result of people using the ER as a clinic. Something needs to be done.
