  1. As a new grad (RN) the stress in the ER was toooo much to handle... (after 5 months) I quit 2 hrs after starting my shift. I notified my manager, they reassigned a nurse to my patients....I gave report to a RN, signed off my charts to the new RN taking over my pts. My manager downstaffed me for the rest of the shift. I wrote my letter of resignation and punched out. Is that considered abandonment? Will I be able to get a job in a dr.s office Thank you for your advice and help!
  2. I'm taking NCLEX in 5 days... Iv'e been using the Hurst review.... it's been awesome...Aunt Marleen :) does a great review and teaches you how to read nclex questions. I'll let you know how I do, so far I'm feeling confident.
  3. JUst passed RN predictor with 99% chance of passing nclex, review meds, values, diet and most importantly prioritization! Ours was pretty easy, only 2 questions had no clue! Being in a telemetry unit really helped this semester, and CCU also, OB was my strong suit, there were about 24% OB questions. Good Luck!
  4. YES! Everything helps in nursing school! A growth and Development class, or Death and dying class, sociologu of the family. It's amazing how bits and pieces from each of those classes really helped me.
  5. Study your material, then test yourself. Do you know the S&S, the side effects of meds, what would be your top priorities, what would be the 1st thing you would do if your patient.... Know nursing dx. that go along with your diesease process. Go farther than your text, sometimes Professors pop questions on the test that challenge your critical thinking!
  6. I really like the incrediably easy series you can find in any bookstore, they simplize the nursing content. Start with Maslow's heirchy, How to do a Nursing Assesment, What Interventions, which are the priorities. Evaluate how the pt responded to your interventions etc. Take a look at some concept maps online, or videos on utube. An A&P review of the major systems, respiratory, Gastro, Cardio, hematology etc Electrolytes review, hypo/hyper signs and symptons of electrolyte imbalances are huge in nursing school. Break down everything in a CBC This should keep you busy! Best of Luck
  7. Our school only allows you to be away 2 years, after that you need to start at nursing 1 again.
  8. PCT are what nurses aides/assistants use to be in the hospitals in my area. In some hospitals they draw blood, do ekg's, and in L&D they are the tech's in the delivery room as well, who assist the nurses as needed. Medical assistants can give injections in my state (NJ) although you need to be certified. Most are employed at a dr's office. If you want the ability to move up the nursing ladder become an LPN and gradually work your way up. Good Luck!
  9. She was truly kind, intelligent and I always looked forward to her advice. To her friends and family, I am sorry for your loss! She was special!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. It took me a year and half, I applied to the night time and One day/online and got into both.
  11. I waited 1 1/2 years. I'm in the ODPW. I highly recommend getting a job as an aide whle your waiting it will help you alot 1st semester. Also, start reviewing electrolytes, and nursing math. You can find web sites for both. Good Luck!
  12. Anyone in the ODPW program, i'm curious how the exam works. Also I have a fundamentals of nursing book from someone it's 7th edition, the current edition they are selling at the bookstore is the 8th edition. Does it make a difference for the exams? Are they online, multiple choice, essay, are they timed? Thanks
  13. Hey Numby Orientation was ok, I got more info from the student nurses than the professor. I ordered my books and started to read the assignments. Good Luck I'll be in Brick ODPW where will you be? Tsangia
  14. I choose afternoon session, I have to get my kindergartener off to school. Is anyone taking Nutrition with Nursing 1? I'm thinking of waiting till this summer.
  15. I took mine a few months ago. Know your basic math, conversions from percentage to decimals etc. Fractions and a little algebra. I was suprised to see 6th grade science questions, I remember one had something to do with volcanic rock, and I remember thinking...WHY? is this on the exam??? Good Luck!!!
  16. Hi Everyone! I'm soo excited to see there are fellow student nurses here! YEAH!!!!! I choose Prof. Zevany, I heard she is very good. I think we'll be at SOCH for the first semester I use to work there as a unit secretary in maternity, it's a nice small hospital, and the cafeteria is very good! LOL:typing Is anyone taking Nutrition? I decided to wait till the summer!! I have FIVE children, ages 16, 12, 11, 6 and 3 and a very supportive husband. I work for a Dermatologist in TR, just one day a week right now. Does everyone have the same orientation date, Jan 8th? Did you go for your fitting? The shirts of the uniforms are mens button down shirts in an ugly green color, (and I LOVE green) they are uncomfortable, but at least we will only have to wear them ONE DAY PER WEEK! Can't wait to meet you all!!!:heartbeat Happy Holidays! Tammy :)
  17. I just got my acceptance letter anyone else? Tsangia:up::yeah:
  18. I chose the ODPW program, the clinical is one twelve hour day
  19. Hi All I was just accepted to the nights program at OCC, BUT, I really wanted the ODPW program b/c I work and have children. I'm wondering, which one works better for those who work and have families? Any advice is much appreciated!
  20. think of it this way.... Cost of Private 37K yr Cost of CC 5Kyr Difference of time 3 yrs=32K Would you wait 3 yrs to go to CC is someone were willing to PAY YOU 11K a yr, or give you 32K at the en:up:d of the 3 yr wait? That's a whole LOT of money to have to pay back. Add the 9% interest each yr over 10yrs, you'll be paying back nearly 50K Wouldn't you rather wait, take courses towards your Bachelors and gift yourself 50K Buy yourself a nice new car when you graduate instead!
  21. Ocean.edu Ocean County College in toms river NJ offered AP1 and APII online, you purchase kit through book store, took w/ Prof. Labella and it was a great experience. Cost is $1000 for everything.
  22. i'd like to be a part of the ap2 club, i'm taking it online. tammy
  23. OMG you mtamnake it sound all so easy! Started NS in a 3 yr BSN program, at 17. I freaked out and dropped out by nursing 2. Wish I had more guidence back then. Anyway, second try towards NS 1997 took several pre reqs. Husband got Cancer, had to drop out. Third try: 2005 Did a few more pre reqs, We were in the proscess of adoption, the middle of the AP2 semester we got a call the we were picking up our daught in two weeks. I was more than halfway done with the class. The professor gave me two days off. When I came back to class my daughter found out She needed me more than I needed to finish ap2, so I had to drop! LAST TRY! I'm taking AP2 w/ computer literacy as my FINAL PRE req! It has only taken me 10 years and I still don't have my associaytes. 22 more credits to go! Thanks for the support:balloons:
  24. I took AP1 a few years ago, I've been taking some courses online. It just works easier for my schedule. I bit the bullet an will be the second class to take AP@ online. The professor said out of 100 students 1 failed, 90 passed the final and liked it, the other 9 didn't like it. I also am taking computer lit. I figured it was be an easy class to take with ap2 on line. Has anyone taken science online, or nursing courses online> Thanks for the info tammy:idea:
  25. I previously worked in L&D as a unit sec. now I work in a small sx center as a surgical tech. I love it. The RN's make 30 an hour, next to my $16. They do exactly the same thing I do. They have a degree an I don't. Which they fully deserve, it has motivated me to continue my education. I've been taking my pre reqs for the last 5 years, finishing my final pre req AP2 this fall semester. Then deciding what to do next, apply days/nights or change majors. I love nursing, an really wish I finished school 20 years ago. When I had the energy to save the world. I'm at the point in my life I'm 43 with 5 children, I don't want to WORK HARD anymore. NURSING is the hardest job on earth. At the Sx center I'm on my feet allll day. I'm tired beat up and of no use to my family. BUT, I love SX and I love people. I want to finish my RN, because it's what I've always wanted to do. What other NON hospital nursing do you suggest? Thanks
