  1. I hear Austin is fun!!!!! I don't really hear great things about Houston. What do you think is the best part of TX?
  2. What hospital do you currently work at?
  3. So, I really couldn't find any information on this topic. I would be interested to know where you get the most bang for your buck on a Nurses salary. On Long Island, RN's make around $74,000 but rent for a one bedroom apartment in a complex can be $1400. Please respond. :redbeathe
  4. Congratulations to all who were accepted! It will be a crazy but fun year. If you have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to contact me. Jen
  5. 1. when do we hear back? i heard back in january. it seems like they did rounds for sounding out letters. most of my friends didn't hear until march/april and one of my friends got in the day the program started. 2. will i not get accepted if i'm not taking anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 until next semester (not because all prereqs are required... because i know they let you have 2 prereqs slide, but because these are, well, important prereq) i truthfully don't know this answer, i did have ap 1 & 2 but didn't have chemistry and got in. i think it depends if you are a strong candidate. 3. will i be rejected with an undergraduate gpa of 3.22?this depends as well, do you have any have a strong resume with activities on it? for my first degree my gpa was 3.33. for my prereq science courses i have a 4.0. 4. the summer from looking back is not so bad. for me, it was monday - thursday class, which was i believe from 8 - 3 or 4ish and a clinical day on friday; most ppl will have their clinical though on the weekends. the fall is totally different from the summer there is a lot more studying and paper work. in the fall you take, ob, peds, psych, pathology, pharmacology, research. ob and peds are split the first 6 weeks you will be in one and then switch. pharm and path don't start until mid-november. psych was a challenging course because of the amount of paperwork that you need to do. i had class, monday, wednesday and friday and clinicals on tuesday and thursday. 5. clinicals are 12 hours with the exception of psych which is 8 hours. 6. studying takes up most of your free time, but if you plan well you will still be able to have fun, maybe not in the same capacity as you did before the program but you will still be able to do this. studying also depends on the type of person you are, i study a lot whereas my friend doesn't have to study a lot!
  6. Hey All- I am currently in the ASBN program...Email me if you want any information regarding the program...If I don't get back to you before Wednesday I am sorry...I have a Pharm test!!! Good Luck everyone!
  7. Hi All- I thought that it would be a good idea for everyone to post their most useful documents that they used in Nursing school such as clinical sheets, critical thinking sheets, care plan templates etc. Thanks, Jen:yeah:
  8. Hi future classmates-- My name is Jen and I live 15 mins. away from SB so I too will be commuting. Has any heard anything regarding the full tuition scholarships? TTYS, Jen
  9. Hi- Did anyone apply for the full tuition scholarship for this program? If so, has anyone heard anything back? Thanks, Jen
  10. Hi- No letter yet!! I hope this means that I got in!
  11. Hi- I checked my Solar System and have the New Student Tab.
  12. Anyone get accepted yet? Let me know!
  13. Hi- Quick Question.. Since the WCC is not accredited by the CCNE or the NLNAC does this mean that I will have a hard time getting into a Master's program to become a NP or will I have a hard time finding a job? Please let me know. Thanks!
  14. Does it matter that the WCC is not accredited? I know that it is competitive but does this hinder you getting a job once you are done.
  15. Hi everyone- Thanks for all of your advice. I am looking to take the Nutrition course online this semester. Other than that I just have to take that TEAS exam and fill out the application. I know that these programs are difficult to get. Does WCC look at the TEAS exam more or your grades? I have been hearing that they look more at the exam, which makes me think that I should start studying ASAP. I want to get in the high 90's so that I won't have to worry if I will get in the program next September. Thanks again everyone!
  16. Hi- I might be moving up to Westchester and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with insight regarding WCC night/weekend program? I am interested in knowing about the teachers, the time the program starts at night and any other details that would be useful in helping me make my decision. Also, totally off topic but where are good places to live for mid-20's single ladies in Westchester?
  17. I just want to thank you both for posting responses so promptly. I have always had a difficult time with Chemistry and maybe Cleping it is not such a good idea. I think that I will continue to study, take the test and if I don't pass I will take a class. I know that the one year program will be difficult, but I feel that Chemistry is on a different level for me than Nursing classes. I know that the Nursing classes will be difficult but they will be much easier for me to understand than Chemistry. Thanks for all of your help!
  18. Hi- Can someone please know if I am crazy? I got accepted to a 3-year part time nursing program starting this Fall (2009). I recently decided that I was not going to go there and instead go to Stony Brook's one year program starting next Summer (2010). I am in the process of studying Chemistry so that I can CLEP it and feel that in the month or so that I have been studying nothing has sank in. I am so frustrated and feel that why would I take Chemistry and Genetics to get into the one year program, when I don't have to take it at the 3-year part time nursing program at my local community college. I am just so frustrated and I really don't know what to do anymore....
  19. Hi- I am in the process of studying for the Chemistry CLEP exam and need help on one of the questions. The question is: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p3 Atoms of an element, X, have the electronic configuration shown above. The compound most likely formed with magnesium, MG, is a. MgX b. Mg2X c. MgX2 d. Mg2X3 e. Mg3X2 The answer is E. Can anyone explain why the answer is E?? Thanks, Jen
  20. Thank you all so much for your kind words and your positive attitude. It really makes me happy that almost every single nurse I encounter thus far are really awesome, genuine people and I can't wait to start working with a great group of people with the same goals and views as me.
  21. Britney_RN, thanks for replying so quickly. I think I am getting so anxious about being in the Nursing program that I am making myself go crazy.
  22. So, I am not in the nursing program yet but was able to take dosage this semester. I understand the math, but just hate the class. Does this mean that I will hate being a nurse? Jen
  23. Hi- I know most of these posts are 5 years old, but I am having anxiety about nursing school too. I am not in a program yet but I started dosage calculations and they are talking about nursing now and it is freaking the **** out of me. I just keep on thinking how about I start my clinicals and hate it. I know that I can just find something else that suits me if I hate it but I am just so nervous, this is something that totally brings me outside of my comfort zone.
