  1. The link below that article indicates it's from 2009.
  2. I had -******** too, and I agree his class is hardcore, but I tell you what, I learned and retained more in that class than any other. I highly recommend this class.
  3. No, that is not true. I'm sure they prefer BSN prepared nurses, but they do still consider ADN nurses.
  4. I disagree. I took both A&P 1&2 at Estrella CC and had awesome instructors both times.
  5. I work in a large hospital group and the typical patient assignment in L & D is 2 laboring moms to one nurse, and the ratio in post partum is 4 couplets to one nurse, sometimes less depending on acuity.
  6. I really liked MH. I took her class for AP 2, however she does teach both, and i would recommend taking both with her. I had ES for AP 1. He was a little more difficult but a good instructor nonetheless.
  7. I got the "thanks but no thanks" e-mail today.
  8. I also applied, and my status still says "under review", however I've not been contacted for an interview.
  9. It most certainly can be done. :) I completed the ADN program at Gateway Community College, then immedietly enrolled in the 14 month RN-BSN program at Grand Canyon University, all while raising two young boys, and working full time outside of the home. (and don't worry, A & P II was much easier than A & P I. I took them both at Estrella, so PM me if you want the name of some good instructors.) :)
  10. That's fantastic news!! Congratulations!!
  11. I have an ADN, however I'm in an RN-BSN program, so will have a BSN soon.
  12. I've got the same application status....hoping to hear something in the next few days. Best of luck to everybody!!!
  13. I know a couple of former classmates who have received the rejection e-mail as well. My application status still says it's being reviewed by recruiting, but I've not received a phone call or e-mail requsting an interview either.
  14. Really? Already? I check the status of my application everyday, so far so good. I applied for the January program, but didn't get an interview. I'm going to stay positive though, and hope for the best this time. Best of luck to you, I know how discouraging the new grad job hunt is.
  15. I've applied for this opportunity also. The posting says they will be contacting candidates at the end of this month for interviews, so it shouldn't be too long before we know something.
  16. Sorry, I didn't see this reply to my original post until recently. I have to admit, block 4 was really difficult, but I got through it and graduated in December. The NCLEX was a piece of cake in comparisson to the tests we had in nursing school, so I was able to pass that in 75 questions. Now the job hunt.......ehhhhh, not so successful. I've put out over 100+ resumes and applications, even walking some of them to the actual units without one single phone call back. It's been very discouraging, but eventually somebody will bite, and it will happen. This crummy job market is only cyclical (I hope), so it's bound to get better. Best of luck in your journey, and just know that if you want it bad enough, there is no stopping you.
  17. I'm currently in block 4 in the Gateway Part Time Evening program, working full time with two school age kids, and doing fine. It's most definately do-able. You just have to remain focused.
  18. Spring placements are usually run in October.
  19. The Gateway part time program is only offered in the spring. That's why it doesn't appear on the list of options right now.
  20. I purchased 2 sets for now, and the white MCCDNP warm up jacket. The color is standard for the whole MCCDNP nursing program....caribbean blue. (teal) I would purchase some solid white long sleeve or thermal tees too, as it gets cold in the hospitals, and the only jacket they allow is the one I mentioned above (It's anything but stylish)
  21. Plan on spending about $1,200.00 up front on your books. We were required to buy them all at once, as well as the medical supplies bag from the bookstore. However, if you're given the book list ahead of time, you can shop around and possibly buy some of them used online. Not to mention you can get the medical supplies bag for about half the cost of the bookstore online (pocketnurse.com). You will also need to buy your MCCDNP uniforms at Apparel Pro USA in Tempe, and they run about $50.00 for a top and pants. Congrats to all that got in. I remember how excited I was to get that letter. Best of luck in all of your programs!!!
  22. You will most definately need: -Comfortable all white shoes -Stethoscope (you don't need a fancy expensive one) -Pen light -Clip board (for clinicals) -clinical uniforms (only sold at apparel pro usa in Tempe) -Black sharpie fine point pens There's a few suggestions for you. There are more things I'm sure I've missed, but that should give you a good head start.
  23. Make sure you're up to speed on medical terminology, and as the previous poster said...pathophysiology is a huge help.
  24. You may also want to look into the Gateway Community College part time evening program. It's only offered in the spring placement, but it schedules classes in the evenings, and clinicals on the weekends. I work full time, and have young children at home, and this program is working out perfect!! Good luck!!
